Acer Unveils the Thinnest Ultrabook, a 15" Ultrabook, a 1080p Tablet and AcerCloud Source by Jason Inofuentes on 1/8/2012 10:41:00 PM It technically doesn't start for another day, but CES is in full swing in Las Vegas. As part of the fun, Acer is bringing us the thinnest Ultrabook yet: The Aspire S5. This 13.3" class laptop measures just 15 mm at its thickest point and weighs in at under 3 lbs. Specs get thin from there, the Intel Core processor, SSD and sealed battery are a given; what we don't know is the size of the battery nor the price or release date, though Q2 2012 is promised. What draws our eye more than the thinness lies beneath what's being called a "MagicFlip I/O" port panel. In an homage to the original MacBook Air, Acer is including a concealed panel for connectivity beneath the display hinge. Where the original MBA, though, made do with a single USB port, the Aspire S5 features HDMI, USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt, a first for a non-Apple laptop. Rated at 20 Gbps, the Thunderbolt port could be driven by Intel's Eagle Ridge chip, or it could be a newer Cactus Ridgepart we'd been waiting to encounter. We'll be sure to report in when we get our hands on one. Acer's mainstream Timeline family of laptops are getting thinner and lighter than ever before. Tacking the Ultra modifier to their name is not just a marketing ploy, these 14" and 15" laptops measure just 20 mm thick, promise an 8 hour battery life and even manage to squeeze in an optical drive. The chassis is attractive and roomy enough for a full sized number pad on the 15" model. As with the Aspire S5, details are slim at the moment, we do know that an SSD/HDD storage option will be available and a Q1 2012 ship date is promised. Gallery: Acer Timeline Ultra 14" and 15" Ultrabooks There is no shortage of online lockers to store files in the cloud. That's not stopping Acer from developing an integrated solution for all of its products. Called AcerCloud, the new service promises seamless access of files stored either on remote devices or in the cloud. This fuses the concept of the 'personal cloud' and cloud storage in general, and mimics offerings like Motorola's MotoCast and DropBox. Services are a different beast than consumer products, and execution is key. Data loss or service interruption can be costly, and it will be interesting to see how Acer performs in this new role. AcerCloud will be featured on all Acer consumer PCs starting in Q2 2012 and the software will be compatible with all Android phones and tablets, with plans for a Windows Phone version at a later date. Speaking of tablets, Acer teased though they did not formally announce their latest tablet, the Acer Iconia Tab A700. Thoroughly leaked late last year, the new slate is no less surprising for its 1920 x 1080 10.1" display, the first of what we expect to be several such Android tablets. Though nowhere near Retina Display caliber, the 218 ppi pixel density easily bests other Android tablets. Powered by NVIDIA's Tegra 3 quad-core SoC, clocked at 1.3 GHz, and running Android 4.0, the tablet should give stark competition to Asus Transformer Prime. We'll have to wait to sometime in Q2 2012 to see who comes out on top.

Lenovo Jumps Into the Smartphone Fray With the S2 Source By Joshua Schnell, PCWorld Jan 8, 2012 9:01 PM Yes, you read that right. Lenovo has thrown its hat into the smartphone war with the newly introduced S2. This is the first time that Lenovo, the worlds second largest PC maker, has developed a smartphone for consumers. The S2, announced at a press conference in Las Vegas, features security systems to protect personal data, prevent phishing attacks, and to secure network and SMS traffic. Under the hood, the S2 has a dual-core 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, as well as an 8-megapixel camera. Out of the box, the phone will sync photos, music and video across mobile devices and Lenovo's laptop lineup. The S2 comes with either 8GB or 16GB of storage, depending on the configuration. Other specs include a 3.8-inch screen with 800 by 480-pixel resolution, a front-facing 0.3-megapixel (VGA) camera for video-conferencing, and either 512MB or 1GB of RAM (depending on the version you get). One thing to note: The S2 comes with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), not the brand new Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). We haven't heard as of this writing whether or not Lenovo will release an Ice Cream Sandwich update for the S2. Lenovo has yet to announce an international shipping date, or price information to the press. They have, however, mentioned that the S2 will be available immediately in China. RIL's 4G Broadband To Offer Exclusive Content & Spectacular Speed At Dirt-Cheap Rates
csmart replied to KumaarShah's topic in Reliance Jio 4G LTE (Prepaid & Postpaid)
i read this article. and was about to post. but then there is nothing exciting or new in it. it seems more sort of PR work from RIL. i feel RIL might be looking to raise money or coming out with something big time. there is no discussion of how the 4G rates and how it iwll be there. whatever mentioned in the article is already published many times over. -

CNET accidentally reveals Galaxy Nexus on Sprint... Source Ad mix-up reveals Galaxy Nexus on new carrier (Credit: Screenshot by Josh Lowensohn/CNET) (Credit: Screenshot by Josh Lowensohn/CNET) The Galaxy Nexus could be making its way to Sprint Nextel's upcoming 4G LTE network. An advertisement that was accidentally published on one of CNET's Consumer Electronics Show pages showed off the Galaxy Nexus, currently only on Verizon Wireless, as a phone that will run on Sprint's 4G LTE network. To ensure no confusion with its current 4G WiMax service, the 4G LTE part of the line was highlighted. A spokeswoman from Sprint declined to comment on the ad or the prospect of the Galaxy Nexus coming to Sprint. But the Galaxy Nexus, or any 4G LTE phone, coming to Sprint in the next few months makes a lot of sense. Sprint Nextel CEO Dan Hesse said today that the company plans to launch its 4G LTE network in 10 cities by the first half of the year, suggesting that devices will come as well. The company previously said devices would come in the second half of the year. The Galaxy Nexus, the first smartphone to run Android 4.0, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich, would make for a nice start. The phone has gotten generally strong reviews for its revamped user interface, and the new features that are packed into the new version of Android. The Galaxy Nexus could conceivably be one of the devices Sprint announces at CES. While the company doesn't have a press conference scheduled at the event, it is expected to make some announcements on Monday. Such a device would help with AT&T and Verizon Wireless preparing their own onslaught of 4G LTE device launches. Verizon Wireless previously said a vast majority of its smartphones would be 4G LTE, and AT&T has been quickly bulking up its own 4G LTE portfolio after launching the network earlier this year. Earlier today, AT&T said it would expands its own 4G LTE network to 11 more cities, including major spots like New York and San Francisco. -

^^^ I am on ACS ICS ROM ver 5.5 with Samurai kernel. though the development for the same has been discontinued. it is good ROM. There minor issues like takes time to refresh home screen. but then it is manageable. otherwise good ROM. Do not use ver 5 of ACS ICS as you cannot capture video.

Windows PCs with Thunderbolt ports on track for early 2012 By Chris Foresman | Published 6 days ago Source 2012 may be the year that Thunderbolt finally comes into its own, with a new report suggesting PC vendors will launch products with support for the new high-bandwidth connectivity standard as early as April next year. Apple was that first vendor to support the standard, having worked with Intel to develop the technology, but support among Windows-based computers has so far been nonexistent. Among the companies that could have products ready next spring are Asus, Acer, Sony, and Gigabyte. Intel has reportedly informed its partners that it will "fully release" Thunderbolt in April 2012, according to DigiTimes, though the company declined to comment when we asked for confirmation. Still, Intel did indicate that its plans do seem to coincide with the cited timeframe. "Our guidance remains that we expect to see Windows-based systems with Thunderbolt in the first half of 2012," Intel spokesperson Dave Salvatore told Ars. Gigabyte Technology reportedly plans to have Thunderbolt-equipped motherboards available around that time, while Sony is expected to incorporate the standard in its high-end laptops. Sony's current Vaio Z ultraportable already uses Thunderbolt controllers mated with a modified, optical-equipped USB 3 port; the report suggests Sony may adopt the standard Thunderbolt port, based on the Apple-developed MiniDisplay Port, for future products. Acer and Asus both announced plans to ship products with Thunderbolt ports beginning next year during the Intel Developers Forum in September. HP, currently the world's largest PC maker, has so far decided to pass on Thunderbolt, despite initially claiming support for the standard in early 2011. Dell, still one on the largest PC vendors despite continually declining sales, hasn't committed to Thunderbolt support, nor has Lenovo or Toshiba.
