Gujarat has about 30% excess power and is expected to reach 50% of excess by next year end or so. Gujarat is willing to provide the power to other states. but political will is not there. congress do not want anything from Gujarat. Gujarat is asking for grid connectivity and other infrastructure in order to supply power to other states. But Power Grid and central govt. are not doing it. the other problem is payment for the power. It is also worried whether they will receive payment from the states, especially where congress is in power. I know this because I work with electricity boards. Even central govt is not willing to give any sort of assurance of payment and hence Gujarat has no other choice but not to supply. this happens in India only. One state wasting and while other is in dire situation.
  2. I used Hathway setup box for almost 3 years. picture quality is worse but then rates are very cheap and cant complain. my cable guy changed it to Digicable. The major difference between cable STB and DTH is quality. Cable STB comes through old cable that you used to plug in directly in your TV. with STB you just put in STB and STB is connected to TV. I do not agree with you that quality is at par with DTH.

  4. as expected, court bans sale of Samsung Tablets in Australia. Australia court bans sale of Samsung tablet in Apple dispute Source In series of bitter patent disputes that span four continents, chalk this up as a victory for Apple: An Australian court has temporarily banned the sale of rival Samsung's latest tablet computer pending resolution of a case involving touch-screen technology. The federal court judge granted Apple a temporary injunction against Samsung blocking the sale of its Galaxy Tablet 10.1 during a legal battle centering on patents, Reuters reported. In August, Samsung agreed to suspend sales in Australia of the tablet until the dispute was resolved with either a settlement or court order. Although on the surface that means the judge's decision won't have an immediate effect on Samsung, it could deal the company a serious blow in the Australian market at the cusp of the crucial holiday shopping season. The patent wars between the tech companies began in April after Apple sued Samsung in San Francisco for alleged patent infringements over its lines of Galaxy tablets and phones, arguing that they resembled the look and feel of the iPad and iPhone. The tit for tat spread to Europe, as well as Japan and South Korea. The patent suits have prompted a temporary sales ban on Samsung's Galaxy S, Galaxy S II and Ace smartphones across 30 European countries. Samsung said this month that it would request a preliminary sales ban on Apple's iPhone 4S in France and Italy because of patent infringement.

  6. iPhone 4S Launched!

Apple iPhone 4S Pre-orders Exhausted in US Source: PC World This news may come as a surprise for many. Despite a lukewarm response for Apple's latest iPhone 4S, the pre-orders for the phone by Apple, AT&T and Verizon have already been exhausted. The iPhone 4S will start shipping from the 14th of October. Apple has replaced the October 14 delivery date for pre-ordered iPhone 4S phones with "Ships: 1-2 weeks." Also, AT&T had earlier stated that it had sold 200,000 iPhone 4S smartphones in the first 12 hours of availability calling it the most successful iPhone launch ever. "To get iPhone 4S as soon as October 14, AT&T retail stores will have an inventory available for eligible customers while supplies last," a message stated during the ordering process. In the meantime, Verizon stated a delivery date of October 21, while Sprint reported it had sold out of the lowest-priced 16GB iPhone 4S. Initial reports look promising, but what needs to be seen is whether people upgrade from their older generation iPhones.

Samsung, Google delay Ice Cream Sandwich Android introduction Source Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and Google Inc. this week delayed the introduction of the latest version of the Android OS code-named Ice Cream Sandwich. The companies were expected to unveil the new operating system next week at a trade event in San Diego, CA. Both companies released a joint statement that stated it was not the appropriate time for the announcement of a new product, reportedly due to the passing of Apple Inc. co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs. The Ice Cream Sandwich OS was said to be introduced on a new smartphone, the NexusPrime, developed by Samsung. This week, Samsung released a new video that detailed the side profile of a new device that includes a power button and dock connector. Ice Cream Sandwich is said to unify the Android OS for smartphone and tablet devices. The Nexus Prime reveal would follow Apple Inc.’s announcement of the iPhone 4S. The company this week the iPhone 4S will be sold via AT&T Inc., Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp. Oct. 14 starting at $199. The iPhone 4S will include the A5 Dual-Core CPU, 8MP camera, 1080 HD video recording functionality, iOS 5, and a new voice command protocol called Suri. Prior devices in the Nexus line include the Nexus S by Samsung and the Nexus One by HTC Corp.
  10. Even millitary computers/network are not safe... Computers Controlling Military Drones Reportedly Infected with Virus [Photo:US Air Force] The computers used to control Predator and Raptor drones used in Afghanistan and other war zones have been reportedly infected by a virus that captures the keystrokes of the pilots operating the unmanned aircraft. Although detected two weeks ago by the military's network security systems, the military has been unable to purge its computers of the apparent keyboard logger, Noah Shactman reported Friday in Wired's Danger Room blog. “We keep wiping it off, and it keeps coming back,” a source familiar with the network infection told Shactman. “We think it’s benign. But we just don’t know." According to the report, the virus hasn't prevented pilots stationed at Creech Air Force Base in Nevada--where the drone control center is located--from completing their missions. Nor has any classified information been lost or sent to an outside source, Wired reported. No one knows how the malware got into the system or whether its arrival was deliberate or accidental, but it has infected both classified and unclassified machines. That means information nicked from the classified networks could be funneled to the unclassified networks where it could be leaked to clandestine locations on the public Internet. According to Wired, the Air Force isn't commenting directly on the infection. A spokesman for the service's Air Combat Command, which oversees the drone program, said that that it doesn't discuss specific vulnerabilities, threats and responses to its computer networks because it can help intruders refine their attacks on military systems. “We invest a lot in protecting and monitoring our systems to counter threats and ensure security, which includes a comprehensive response to viruses, worms, and other malware we discover," the spokesman told Wired. Although the keylogger appears to be harmless, some security experts found news of the intrusion alarming. "This is bad in so many ways," Richard Stiennon, chief research analyst with IT-Harvest in Birmingham, Mich., told PCWorld. "It indicates that the military is using completely insecure operating systems and practices for the critical function of controlling drones." "These are deadly weapons that must work as required and only when required," he continued. "To have their command and control corrupted by apparently common malware is inexcusable." He maintained that the hard drives on the infected machines should be restored from a clean image. "A removal tool cannot be trusted to completely remove a virus," he asserted. "The fact that they attempted several times to remove this malware indicates the sorry state of protection within this critical military system." John Bumgarner, chief technology officer with the U.S. Cyber Consequences Unit added: "It is highly troubling that the military computer systems used to fly classified Predator missions were breached by an unknown adversary. The security controls for these sensitive national security systems should have been held to a much higher standard by the Department of Defense." Despite the sensitive nature of their operations, computer security hasn't been a hallmark of drone operations. In 2009, for example, the military seized the laptop of a Shiite militant in Iraq and found days of video footage intercepted from drones flying missions in the region. Since video feeds from the drones are unencrypted, the military explained, it's relatively easy for the militants to snatch them from the air with software that can be purchased off the Internet for $26. Since the terrorist attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, drones have increased in importance as a tactical weapon. In the 10 years following 9/11, 30 CIA drones have been attributed with the deaths of more than 2000 militants and civilians. Another 150 Predator and Reaper drones operated by the Air Force patrol the skies over Iraq and Afghanistan. U.S. drones were also used to support NATO air attacks in Libya and were responsible for the death last week of Anwar al-Awlaki, dubbed by some as the "Osama of the Internet." Source:PC World

Sony to buy Ericsson out of phone venture: report Source: AFP TOKYO — In a push to enhance its smartphone business, Japan's Sony is nearing a deal to buy out Swedish telecom firm Ericsson's stake in their mobile phone joint venture, according to the Wall Street Journal. By wresting full control of the 50-50 partnership, Sony aims to integrate its smartphone operation with its tablet, hand-held game console and personal computer businesses to save on costs and better synchronise development of mobile devices, the paper quoted people familiar with the matter as saying. Sony shares tumbled 3.12 percent to 1,424 yen Friday morning, despite the benchmark index rising one percent in morning trade. "Sony had not been able to carve out its presence globally (in smartphones) with Ericsson," said Okasan Securities strategist Hideyuki Ishiguro. "Even if it gets full control of the venture, the competitive landscape of the smartphone industry already seems mapped out," he told Dow Jones Newswires. Sony is pushing for a deal as competitors such as Apple of the United States and Samsung Electronics of South Korea forge ahead with closely coupled strategies for smartphones and tablet computers, the journal said. Analysts say the move would help accelerate Sony's efforts to push its vast library of content through its game consoles, smartphones and tablet computers amid competition from Apple's iTunes and App store. Sony Ericsson was created in 2001 and is now the world's sixth-largest cellphone manufacturer with a global workforce of 7,600. Sony in Tokyo declined to comment on the report. The joint venture's two parent companies have held regular discussions over the years about Sony Ericsson's ownership structure, the journal quoted its sources as saying. One of them said the talks were ongoing and could break apart at any time, it said. The amount Sony would pay Ericsson remained unclear because of the complexity of a possible transaction that could involve Ericsson's mobile-technology patent portfolio, it said. But analysts estimated that Ericsson's stake in the venture could be valued at between 1.0-1.25 billion euros or roughly $1.3-1.7 billion, it said.

  15. it is just arrogance on the part of operators. they do not want to give free hand to users. but they don'y realise that such measures reduces their own manpower requirement at stores.
  16. ^^^ the main CDMA market is US and there users simply do not bother about SIM. In India, it is lack of commitment on the part of service providers.

  21. 2G scam: ADAG executives may turn approver, says CBI NEW DELHI: CBI expects the three senior Reliance ADAG executives currently in jail in connection with the 2G scam to turn approver in what can have repercussions for people other than those chargesheeted in the case. CBI was optimistic about such a possibility in theSupreme Court on Thursday. Its counsel K K Venugopal told a bench of Justice G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly that conflicting stands taken by accused Reliance ADAG executives - Gautam Doshi, Surendra Pipara and Hari Nair - on who made decisions on the Swan deal before the trial court and the Delhi high court has raised hope that they might turn approver and help unravel the facts concerning the alleged Reliance Telecom-Swan-Delphi nexus. CBI has alleged that the jailed R-ADAG executives floated Swan Telecom as a front to garner spectrum licences. Rel Telecom denies approver report Meanwhile, Reliance Telecom on Thursday denied the possibility of its three executives charged in the 2G scam turning approver. A Reliance Telecom spokesperson said, "None of the three Reliance executives chargesheeted by CBI have at any stage till date expressed any desire to become approver. The distorted media reporting on this issue is a very serious matter and will be acted upon." He said neither Reliance Telecom nor the promoters were beneficiaries of any telecom licence issued in January 2008. The executives, currently in jail in connection with the 2G scam, told the Delhi high court in their bail applications that they were mere employees, implying that they were carrying out orders, CBI told the Supreme Court on Thursday, pointing out a change in stand. The trio - Gautam Doshi, Surendra Pipara and Hari Nair - had maintained in the trial court that they acted on their own, thus absolving the higher-ups of any culpability. Their HC defence, on the other hand, is freighted with risk for their seniors. CBI has been following the share transfer trail, which has now reached Switzerland, and feels if the accused executives turn approver and divulge who was behind the serpentine transfer of shares by Reliance Telecom from Swan to Mauritius-based Delphi, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mavi Investment Fund, it would give a new dimension to the 2G scam. Venugopal informed the bench that after investigations in Mauritius, the agency has now taken steps for issuance of a letter rogatory to Switzerland to seek cooperation of local authorities there to probe to whom Delphi had transferred the shares it received from Reliance Telecom. The counsel said Reliance transferred 1,07,90,000 equity shares in Swan to Delphi in 2007 for Rs 15 per share. "The total value of $76 million of the shares sold by Reliance to Delphi was grossly undervalued," Venugopal told the bench. Agency sources said the money trail headed to Switzerland from Mauritius. It suspects that it then moved towards British Virgin Island. On the basis of the probe status report, the bench had repeatedly observed that CBI's inquiry about the money trail abroad pertaining to different companies was still not complete. 22. even if you open new account, they may be able to link it to the old account. ebay/Paypal also falls under KYC norms issued by RBI. once you open an account, they will ask for PAN and other details. I had to submit these details in order to bid/buy on ebay. probably, your sister account may work, if you registered it for the first time.
  23. thats the bad part. it is blanket ban sort of. I do not receive any SMS form my bank and other facilities like commodity and forex which i have subscribed. there should be proper mechanism whereby I can decide from which I can receive. though I am receiving SMS from credit card co. its wierd.
