  2. Apple Sues Htc

More Details March 3 (Bloomberg) -- HTC Corp. fell the most in three weeks in Taipei trading after Apple Inc., the maker of the iPhone, filed a patent-infringement complaint seeking to prevent HTC Corp. from importing mobile phones into the U.S. that run on Google Inc.’s Android operating system. HTC, based in Taoyuan, Taiwan, dropped 2.7 percent, the biggest decline to NT$321 as of 9:06 a.m., while the Taiex gained 0.6 percent. “HTC only learned of Apple’s actions this morning via media reports, and therefore we have not yet had the opportunity to investigate the filings,” Linda Mills, an HTC spokeswoman, said in an e-mailed statement. “Until we have had this opportunity, we are unable to comment on the validity of the claims being made against HTC.” More details on patents violated
  3. Apple Sues Htc

HTC found violating Apple's patent. HTC is saying it will appeal. ITC says HTC violating two of Apple's patents Source... Apple scored a legal victory today when the U.S. International Trade Commission made an initial ruling that HTC had violated two of its patents. The ITC administrative law judge's initial determination was that HTC infringed on two of the 10 patents Apple had filed a complaint over in March 2010, according to an HTC statement. The ITC still needs to make a final ruling on the complaint. A loss carries the threat that HTC's products would be banned from coming into the U.S., and Apple only needs to get a favorable decision on one of the patents. HTC said it would appeal the decision. "HTC will vigorously fight these two remaining patents through an appeal before the ITC commissioners who make the final decision," said Grace Lei, general counsel for HTC. "This is only one step of many in these legal proceedings." An Apple representative referred back to the company's initial statement when it filed the complaint last year. "We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours," Apple CEO Steve Jobs said in the release. If an appeal isn't successful, HTC will have to come to a settlement with Apple. The loss would be a defeat for all Android supporters and could embolden Apple to take additional legal action. AllThingsD reports that two patents relate to a "system and method for performing an action on a structure in a computer" and a "real-time signal processing system for serially transmitted data." FOSS patents, meanwhile, said the patents in dispute make up the core of Android's operating system, and could have repercussions on all Android handset manufacturers. The latest development is also a major blow to HTC, which has made strides in building market share and a brand with its line of Android-powered smartphones, many of which feature the company's own Sense user interface. HTC was the first Android supporter that Apple went after, signalling the growing threat of Google's software to iOS and the iPhone franchise. On Monday, Apple had filed a second complaint with the ITC, claiming that five additional patents were being illegally used, including one used for scrolling operations, another for programmable tactile touch-screen displays, and one for a double-sided touch-sensitive panel, all of which are used in another complaint against Samsung. The other relates to the ability to scroll, zoom, and rotate content on a screen, while the last references "portable computers." The five additional patents weren't a part of this ruling. Technology companies in recent years have increasingly used the ITC to settle their disputes because the process is seen as more efficient than the federal courts. In addition, the threat of a embargo on products typically forces companies to settle quicker. HTC is considered the most vulnerable legally of the Android partners because it lacks a robust portfolio of patents that act as a potential shield. Earlier this month, HTC purchased S3 Graphics, largely because of a collection of patents that the ITC administrative law judge recently determined were used illegally by Apple. Apple, meanwhile, is still in the middle of a similar patent fight against Samsung Electronics. Update at 3:21 p.m. PT: Includes reaction from Apple. Update at 3:10 p.m. PT: Includes details on the patents in dispute and details on broader implications for Android. Update at 2:22 p.m. PT: Includes additional background and details on the dispute.

  6. Bomb Blasts In Mumbai

we say Mumbai bounces back. DO we have any other option? unless our family member is affected, we do not care, thats the reality. we start office as usual even without thinking about what has happen and what are the effects on victims and their families. this how it is in India. i was also travelling to Opera house and was lucky as my friend arrived 5 minutes late. i was supposed to go on the back side of the building where bomb blasted. in fact i went there only to realise something was wrong. when i reached near, everybody was running and earlier thought it was cylinder blast. have you ever seen any politician or their closed relative suffering from terrorist attacks? our govt and judicial system is a total failure. we cry about kasab and others. but we seldom force govt to take action. why aren't we on street to demand speedy trail? if foreigner is involve, trial is completed at lighting speed. why special court that tried kasab was not at par with High Court? this gives him chance to move to High court then Supreme court and then President. our president is sitting on mercy plea for more than 10 convicts and dont know for how long. so this clearly shows that govt has no desire what so ever to punish terrorists. bravo to all those who helped victims.

  9. Reliance Industries conducting due diligence on Aircel, may make offer for controlling stake Source - The Economic TImes MUMBAI: Billionaire Mukesh Ambani-controlled Reliance Industries is conducting an advanced due diligence exercise on telecom services provider Aircel, three people said on condition of anonymity. Reliance Industries has completed atleast three rounds of due diligence on Aircel and may offer to buy a controlling stake in the company if talks between the two sides result in a deal. Reliance Industries marked its foray into the telecom sector by acquiring Infotel Broadband for close to $1 billion last year giving it broadband wireless access licenses in 22 circles across India. A spokesperson for Reliance Industries denied any such move. An Aircel Spokesperson said in response to queries from ET Now, "This is a baseless rumour and a mere speculative report". People familiar with the ongoing due diligence exercise said Reliance Industries is formulating a plan to expand its basket of services to include both voice as well as data services and is keen to buy a telecom services provider which will give it access to much required back-end infrastructure as well as a large customer base which it could put to good use for its broadband roll-out. Aircel has close to 60 million customers and 2G spectrum licenses to operate in 22 circles across India. The company also acquired 3G licenses in 13 circles and Broadband Wireless Access licenses in 8 circles in India. Aircel had revenues of Rs 5600 crore for the calendar year 2010 and posted a net loss of Rs 260 cr for the same period. The company is likely to have total debt of close to Rs 17,000 crore this year. Malaysia's Maxis Communications Berhad owns a 74% stake in Aircel and has been in talks with multiple global as well as local telecom players to divest its holding in the company according to people close to the group but has so far failed to arrive at a deal due to differences in valuation expectations. Maxis is owned by a Malaysian billionaire Tatparanandam Ananda Krishnan. Aircel sold 17500 telecom towers to Manoj Tirodkar-controlled GTL Infrastructure for close to $2 billion early last year in a deal that included commitments by Aircel to use GTL's tower network for its services. GTL derives more than 50% of its revenues from Aircel. One of the people quoted above said that Maxis may still be keen to provide services in India through the Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) route but does not want to own the telecom infrastructure or spectrum that have burdened it with high operating costs. A Mobile Virtual Network Operator buys network from other operators who own spectrum and the associated infrastructure to provide services to its customers. There are currently regulatory restrictions in India for telecom companies to operate as MVNO's.

  17. Reliance CDMA Port-In Offer

@setu RCDMA has lot of problem now days with network in Mumbai also. you can try these methods but chances are trim. I myself trying for it since last 3 months or so. posted on facebook, complained to higher ups, given port out request, but no luck.
  18. Mumbai and Rest of Maharashtra has now consider as same circle for users. there is no roaming or different charges wherever you go within Maharashtra including Mumbai. so whatever tariff that you pay in Mumbai is applicable throughout Maharashtra and viceversa. Even from dialing from landline to Mobile, it is not STD call. @rkburra the web world executive may not be aware of this fact. its ages since Mumbai and Maharashtra became one circle for users.
  19. How Operators Are Scuttling MNP

i had given port request due to network problem. then it sorted out and did not opt for it. reliance call ask that they need sign on document stating that i am not willing to port my number without any pressure from rcom. my no is in name of my brother and address is of different office. they wen their and i was not aware. my bro signed without consulting me. further i realised this, only when i again send port request and got call from reliance stating i've sign document and cannot port for 90 days. i aksed to send fax of papers that i signed but never received. anyway i am still struggling with reliance network, and there are other issues that are stopping me in porting out. like my entire staff is on RCDMA and its the cheapest as far is know. i thought of Tata Docomo as their tariff somewhat similar to RCOM. but reviews are not gr8. lets see.
  20. How Operators Are Scuttling MNP

reliance is rejecting if you did not port out on your first code. they will not allow you do it till 90 days are passed. they get you sign document that stating you are not willing to port and after that you have to wait for 90 days.
  21. if it does not support 240V then you need to get converter. if the quality of converter is not good then it will affect your TV. the main reason is frequency which 50Hz in India. the laptop chargers are designed to work from 110 to 230 VOlts and in both 60 and 50 Hz. but TVs are not.
  22. they are able to create ripples as they made it rare commodity. I mean, they are way too expensive, do not get easily when launched, they are marketing genius, require microSIM that was never heard off etc. and creates curiosity for others. I agree with Dhiraj about their quality but nothing more than that. reducing the price of the product that is already obsolete in other parts of world, makes no sense.
  23. 5.7 Day Battery Life On Samsung Fascinate

wi-fi and data are two major battery power consumers. you closed them down besides, i guess there are lot of otherapps that you might have closed down. even Dhiraj had mentioned somehere in the forum that he got longer battery life with all data off. my major problem is when I am not in office. I need to get emails on phone and data consumes most battery life. though i will try turning data only when needed rather than keeping it on continuously. have you ever tried data on/off every hour or two? thanx for the sharing experience.
  24. I do not have any idea. you can try. I have only CC from HDFC and I havent tried for CC also.
