Updated: 3G Auction completed after 34 days of bidding
csmart replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
are yaar, if India goes to 4G, then what will happen to babus and Mr. A Raja.. they will loss millions of money as there will be only 1 tender. kisse ke pet pe laat nahi marne ki.... besides, our lol cos have already invested in 3g equipments and they will also will not allow 4g without getting any benefit out of 3g investments.. -
if you even buy genuine copies of bare min. softwares like 1. windows os (XP or win 7) 2. Office pro or home edition 3. winrar 4. antivirus then also the cost will be same, if not more that of PC cost. in such scenario it does not make sense for using originals. besides, MS, is also interested in large corp users rather than individuals. they know that they can pay and also provide good discount on bulk purchase. i know, my friend is working in HP, US, he gets office for mere US$15.. yes you got it right. HP has tie up and its MS big customer so deal is for all HP employees.
-
MS doing this for long time. whenever you buy license copy of any MS product, ask for SA (I guess - Software Assurance). SA allows free upgrade to next version. the price is very marginally higher.

they provide wi-fi internet. have good plans. but never tried. they marketed sometime back.. but not aggressively..

Updated: 3G Auction completed after 34 days of bidding
csmart replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
a new twist.. this time thanx to defence ministry... as per article in economic times.. 3g ayegaa, ayegaa, 3g nahi ayega, ayega......... 3G bids may be pushed back to Sept 30 Jan 2010, 0100 hrs IST, Joji Thomas Philip & Rohini Singh, ET Bureau Save Print EMail Share Comment Text: NEW DELHI: The law ministry has warned that the government will be exposing itself to the danger of heavy financial penalties if it auctions 3G airwaves not in the possession of the telecom department — most likely leading to another delay in the sale of spectrum for high-end telecom services such as ultra-fast internet on mobiles. The ministry has advised that it is not prudent to auction airwaves not yet freed by the armed forces because under the terms of a telecom department proposal, the winning bidders can ask for their money back plus interest if they are not handed the 3G spectrum by the end of this year. The ball is now in the court of the finance ministry, headed by Pranab Mukherjee. A top official in the communications ministry told ET that the auction may be pushed to August or September. If the process is completed before the end of the year in December, phone companies will be able to roll out 3G services only by the middle of next year. “We have referred the file to the finance ministry and we will take a view once they take a firm view on some queries raised by us,” said law minister Veerappa Moily. Mr Mukherjee said “no decision had been taken to delay or not delay the (3G auction) process”. He declined to comment on the consultations between the law and finance ministries on the sale of airwaves. Earlier this month, a panel of ministers headed by Mr Mukherjee reiterated the government’s commitment to auction four slots of radio bandwidth, in addition to the one already allotted to state-owned telcos BSNL & MTNL, before April, hoping to raise about Rs 30,000 crore. “It is between the law and finance ministries. There is no delay on our part. We had already decided on the dates for the auction process and finalised everything beforehand,” communications minister A Raja said. The telecom department and the armed forces are involved in a standoff over control of a large chunk of 3G airwaves. The defence ministry has said that it will free up 5 Mhz of 3G spectrum, equivalent to one slot, in July and a similar amount in August 2010. But the defence ministry is complaining that the telecom department is not keeping its side of the bargain. Work is yet to start, it says, on building an alternative fibre optic network cable for the armed forces. For consumers, a further delay will mean they will have to wait other year-and-a-half for high-end services such as ultra-fast internet, video-conferencing, interactive gaming, mobile TV and high-speed downloads of movie and music clips on mobile phones. Currently, all services offered by Indian telcos, except select offerings by state-owned telcos BSNL and MTNL, are done using second generation (2G) networks which largely cater to the voice market. 3G services were originally scheduled to be launched in India in 2007 but have repeatedly delayed amid troubles over freeing up spectrum and setting bid prices. First launched in Japan in May 2001, the services are available in over 90 countries. -

i gave my imei number mentioned on the box. said its not registered in their DB. i think i need HTC diamond or other HTC IMEI no of the handset sold in India.. cant activate without that.. i dont understand if voice working, default net connect working, then why they need IMEI for activating windows net plan.. as usual, making life complicated. paisa mil raha hai, to activate karo naa... but no.. we dont like if customers dont suffer. -

try to find dealer or reseller. you will get better rate for laptop/notebooks from them rather than croma. also you can try with PC assembler if you know.
-
i wont recommend to go to such stores like croma/ezone for computer related items. you get it cheap else in 99% of cases. i have seen that at times, vijay sales - "one day sale" or something turns out to be cheaper. but thats for that particular day and it is generaly sunday. for any PC related item, i recommend dealer or shops that we have at Lamington Road in Mumbai. you will surely find difference in prices

i called up CC for windows mobile pla n said tht it can be activated and no NUC. htey want IMEI number. good to give for touch pro?? -
why you wont to go for netbook? from experience, i can tell you tht screen size is very very small. currently you will feel that its ok but within few months you will realise that its too small to work. you want to use word and excel, man its very difficult to work on word in such a small size. apart from good mobility, very light to carry nothing else. just think it over. rather wait for some time and increase your budget. its your personal choice. i wont recommend as i know how its becomes difficult work after 10-15 minutes. try using at some store for about 20 minutes and then see. there are laptops from acer/toshiba in 25k or so...

follow these steps: 1. connect the modem to pc. pc must detect it as new hardwarae. 2. choose install drivers manually. 3. then browse the driver and provide path of your cd drice 4. it should ask for probably 2-3 hardware found one after the another. once installed properly, open the software generalt ZTE... go to settings and set username and password as your modem number without 0. then click on connect.

for mumbai, i can vouch, RGSM is at par with Airtel. you dont get airtel in closed rooms (whre all other network shows full). my wife is using RGSM in Mumbai and happy. yeah but her mobility is very limited. somehow i found RGSM better than airtel in south mumbai.

our telecom minister will milk BSNL so that he can allow "phirangis" to dump their old equipments/technology in India. Dayanidhi had siad tht India shud directly got o 4g instead of 3g.. but mr. raja wants to earn more, for 3g and then for 4g if possible. so we have to dream of such technologies but never use it.

vodafone is very expensive. all there plans quite high compare to reliance. nothing is as cheap as reliance.

csmart replied to Sadikk's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
in a way good move.. at the same time, as expected, consulation paper means longer period to implement. TRAI should also allow discotinued numbers to be reissued. as far as i know, its allowed, but this article says its not... -
i will suggest to get a wi-fi router from the ISP.. generally they provide for free. i changed my MTNL DSL router to wi-fi dsl and also got a new USB wi-fi dongle for PC. so now i just switch on my router and connect PC, laptop and cell to it. earlier i either use PC or laptop at a time as i didnt had any other networking devices. now with wifi, all are used simultaneously. 1.If my phone has wi fi then can I access Internet on phone from my PC(PC has wireless lan and I am using broadband on pc) ? it is possible. but little complicated if you dont have wi-fi router from isp. you need to switch on your PC everytime you want to browse through phone and also you have to enable internet connection sharing on PC. 2.Can I access phone from PC using wi fi ?(similar to bluetooth or cable) NO. as of now one to one connectivity is not available in wi-fi. the standards does not provide for one to one or peer to peer connection in wi-fi. however the new standards are underdevelopment and it will be possible in future. Read this article, good one for understanding. http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/173699/wifi_direct_could_be_the_death_of_bluetooth.html 3.What are the other benefits of wifi on phone ? it depends. i generaly use when i am not in office and to access mail at client office wherever wi-fi available. it depends on usage. 4.Is Wifi and wireless lAN same ? yes. 5.IS Modem with wi fi and wireless router same ? if different how? not exactly. as i mentioned earlier, i got the ADL router, which you can term as router with wi-fi connectivity. the pure wi-fi router is your switch or router/hub for wired network. it is exactly the same as your wired router but supports wireless connectivity. infact most wi-fi routers supports both, wireless and wired network. generally they have four ports for wired devices and 4 for wireless. but wi-fi modem may have limitations based on company. MTNL has only one wired port, while my airtel (in office) has two. my suggestion, dont go in much details. if your ISP is not providing wi-fi then you need to get your own router, cost about Rs.1800/- and above. advice, opt for linksys. little expensive but really good and reliable. settign wi-fi is easy. just secured with complicated passowrd that you can remember. even if you forget, you reset to factory and again set it up from scratch. i have seen many wi-fi connections with default password even for managing the routers. DONT EVER DO THAT. change admin name and password for the router. otherwise anyone can take you for a joy ride... and you should be aware of American family in Navi Mumbai. i generally put mac addresses in router that can access it. but then visitors cant access it. my home settings is such that only mac ids that i have provided can access it. while in office, i change password every one or so...

Vodafone (mumbai) Introduces Unlimited Sms Pack And Night Call Plan
csmart replied to Mukeshlst's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
vodafone is good at marketing. they offers were always mesleading and never offered plans that can be compared with competition. they are enjoying such a huge customer base as people feel its good to be on vodafone and also due to one of the first one to start service. if MNP is available, i think voda and airtel will be the highest loosers.. you will never ever get cheap rates from voda... -

try nokia 5310xpress music. good phone. my wife is using it. its around 5k and has all the features. realy nice phone with that price. -
its now always motherboard problem. check power cable of your monitor. if you are giving power from SMPS, then plug it directly to a wall. also when you see blinking light on monitor, just switch off/on monitor with power button on the monitor. sometimes, due to old electrical wiring and high load, such things happens. Gigabyte is good motherboard and you got good power supply. so now check monitor. i also advice to use UPS. we assume that in Mumbai, we dont need. but now a days there are lot of fluctuations and you never know how it will affect PC. recently my friend had some problem and his motherboard was gone. its better to UPS. even voltage stabilizer was blown off.
