Opera Mini Web Browser Now Available On Qualcomm's Brew Platform
nilesh_ku posted a topic in Technical / OS related
Opera Mini Web browser now available on Qualcomm's BREW platform Oslo, Norway — December 6, 2007 Opera Software today announced that its Opera Mini browser is now available on phones enabled with Qualcomm's BREW® platform. Built on Opera's technology, Opera Mini has already been embraced by more than 27 million cumulative users who view more than one billion Web pages every month. Opera Mini provides an excellent user experience by leveraging Opera's Small Screen Rendering (SSR) technology to reformat the Web page to fit inside the screen width. In addition, Opera's new "Desktop Mode" gives users a wider view of the page, displaying Web pages exactly as they appear on the PC. Innovative enhancements such as the Opera Zoom functionality allow users to dive into the page, and dynamically navigate the content, resulting in a more intuitive browsing experience. With Opera Mini, now available on BREW devices, operators and handset manufacturers will be able to leverage Opera Software's technology to quickly drive feature-rich BREW handsets to the mass market and enable users to access their favorite Web sites from the convenience of their mobile device. For operators, a turnkey white-labeled Opera Mini solution increases brand loyalty among millions of users worldwide. The leading Indian telecom operator, Tata Teleservices Ltd, was one of the first to realize the advantages of Opera Mini for their BREW handsets. "We are excited to provide Opera with the ability to extend the offering onto BREW-enabled devices," said Bob Briggs, senior vice president and general manager of BREW for Qualcomm Internet Services. "Opera Mini represents another way that customers can have an enhanced user experience with high speed and content rich Web sites right from their BREW phones." "Opera consistently aims to improve the quality and performance of mobile Web browsing. By making Opera Mini available on Qualcomm's BREW platform, we are able to offer a fast and cost efficient Web experience to millions of mobile phone users," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO for Opera Software. "The rapid growth of Opera Mini solidifies Opera's leadership position in the mobile Web browsing space and is further proof of the value that leading operators, such as TATA Teleservices, are finding in our solutions." "By offering Opera Mini on BREW-enabled handsets, we are able to bring innovative data offerings to our users. Opera has once again proven itself as the pioneer in providing rich and full access to the Web," says Pankaj Sethi, President, VAS & Enterprise Marketing, Tata Teleservices Ltd. Opera Mini provides: Access: Opera Mini allows users to visit popular Web sites for social networking, news, search engines and e-mail from their BREW phones. Speed: Like other Opera browsers, Opera Mini is built for speed and has been clocked at more than double the speed of competing mobile browsers, ensuring a positive Web browsing experience. Cost reduction: Opera Mini uses a remote proxy server to pre-process Web pages before sending them to mobile phones. Web content is compressed to reduce the size of data transfers, enabling lower bandwidth costs for operators and overall reduction in data costs for end users. Local language support: Opera Mini is available in over 50 languages. BREW solutions change the way people relate to wireless data services. By enabling the discovery and delivery of high-value content, BREW creates opportunities for the wireless industry to enhance consumers' mobile data experience. Qualcomm's comprehensive and targeted BREW Signature Solutions offer reduced time to market and lower capital investment for companies providing mobile products and services. Customers also can benefit from several modular BREW offerings, including uiOne™, deliveryOne™ and QPoint™, which provide the foundation for customer-differentiated wireless data capabilities. ____________________________________________________________________________ Now atleast we can hope RIM will provide the same on its handset. Thanks Nilesh -

Opera Mini On Tata's Brew Handsets
nilesh_ku replied to nilesh_ku's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Nokia 6275 is a java based handset. Till now, opera was available only for java-based phones and not for BREW-based models like LG 6000, LG 6600 etc Hence, it is for the first time that opera would work on a BREW phone with Tata. Not completely correct. In reliance mobile internet is supported only on WAP enabled phones and not on Java phones. Non-WAP Java phone users(like LG6130) have to be content with hopeless jataayu browser. In Brew phones mobile internet is completely unavailable. Well, I think LG RD5130 is also a non WAP Java phone, But we can access internet through R-Surf. Nilesh -
Hi Stans, Don't try to upload anything to Memory Card through any other mean except through LG Desktop, it will never show via handset. Nilesh

Hi Sandeep, Amtrag is write, you can use Opera, unless it is provided for download by RIM through R World and god only knows when RIM will do it. Till then just hope...... Thanks Nilesh

Source : Techtree News Staff Opera Mini on Tata's BREW Handsets In a first, Opera Software has partnered with Tata Teleservices to provide Opera Mini on the latter's upcoming BREW-enabled handsets. Tata Teleservices' first BREW-enabled handset graced by Opera Mini will be Huawei's C2900i. Not only is this the first delivery of Opera Mini on a BREW-enabled handset, but it also marks Opera's entry into the Indian telecom market. While Tata Teleservices has always promoted mobile Internet use among the mass market in India, the arrival of Opera Mini on Tata's upcoming handsets means users will now have access to the full Web, including mobile blogging and social networking. And besides bringing Web content to mobile phones, Opera Mini will include features like bookmarks, secure email access, and online banking. It will also support local language Web sites such as BBC Hindi, Dainik Bhaskar, etc. According to Pankaj Sethi, president (VAS & Enterprise Marketing) of Tata Teleservices, Tata Indicom's superior CDMA capabilities, coupled with Opera Mini's unique capabilities, will bring a delightful browsing experience to customers. Mobile Web on affordable mobile devices will open-up the power of the Internet to a huge base of mass consumers -- in a language of their choice, according to Jon von Tetzchner, chief executive officer of Opera Software. Opera Mini uses a remote proxy server to pre-process Web pages before sending them to mobile phones. Web content is compressed to reduce the size of data transfers, enabling a faster browsing experience. Opera Mini's Small Screen Rendering (SSR) reformats Web pages to fit inside the screen width, automatically doing away with the need for horizontal scrolling. Alternatively, a new 'Desktop mode' gives users a wider view of the page. And, Opera Zoom functionality allows them to drive into the page, delivering dynamic navigation of page content. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Will ever Brew enabled handset on RIM will see OPERA.
