hmm..i guess i am Anti-Ie...didnt even realise till u pointed... and im guessin its not wrong to be one.... Point taken - the topic is 'favourite', not 'best' browser... Anyways...my basic message is not even anti-IE...Its this - We do have a choice to choose our browser ....i've been sayin this since the start of this thread - i think IE coming in shipped free with our OS kinda stops us from lookin for a better alternatives there is a big difference between using IE BECOZ we didnt try anything else and CHOOSING IE AFTER tryin out the available options Its rather like the Veg/Non-veg thing...like, the diff between being a vegetarian BECOZ ur pa&grandpa never ate meat and CHOOSING to be a vegetarian AFTER having tasted chicken in ur mouth...i personaly feel the second way of being a vegetarian has more meaning to it...coz its a consious choice we have made... U KNOW WHAT IM SAYIN ? i can appreciate the difference and i respect ur choice buddy...keep browsin peace ps: thanx for the tip pretender...i am using PR1.0

Hullo... Rsumit, How can u leave out of picture the all-important issue of Security[/b} ?? ever heard of the saying 'a secure browser' ... ? IE is integrated too closly with the windows OS, that any 'vulnerablity'(as MS calls'em) in IE lets the hacker or the malware or whatever access not only to ur browser but into the very heart of ur system doesnt sound too good, does it? IE lets a lotta malware to be installed on ur pc behind ur back...yes,even without u clicking one of those "yes, i agree.install pls" buttons in the pop-ups there r SO many anti-spware s/f designed to specifically patch over these 'vulnerabilties' such as 'browser hijacking' and then we got others designed to detect and/or remove bugs that might have installed thro IE previously... yeah sure dude, like without IE, these companies will go broke...so pls do continue IE hmm..not sure on that one... i prefer "A SINGLE SAFE BROWSER" TO "IE+SEVEN OTHER SUPPORTING ANTISPYWARE APPZ" jus for the record, Firefox is a Netscape derivative...granddaughter or something keep surfing....
-
YUP...i totally agree.....no doubts on this one..Kazaa is the Bigdaddy of malware...check out the irony tho - Kazaa has the official record of being "the most downloaded s/f ever" ( i heard somethin about edonkey breakin this record) not sure bout the lite version
-
im surprised nobody mentioned Kazaa... kmd
-
dude pls do not download it from any 3rd party sites..they get laced with trojans.... here's the Official webpage http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ U can also Download thro the same site, the Latest Java JRE that is required for azureus to run...if u dont have java runtime environment installed in ur pc, Azureus will not work cheers
-
What about it Ganesh? im not sure what u meant... if its about the 'split_mutiple parts_download_join_again' thing.... NO the firefox downloader does NOT do that...altho it has 'resume ' capability, i think it downloads as one single file...no split&join
-
i have Never had neither of the above said problems karpar... its been more than an year now... d/ls r perfectly resumable, and pages do display properly... Something else is amiss...im not sure what.... maybe u can try downgrading to the stable 0.93 verson IF ur using the 1.0 PR..might help

not like in DAP...but something like that CAN BE DONE in Azureus(not in any other bittorrent client, i think) this "part download" thing works ONLY if the file ur d/l ing has many sub-files(so to speak)...it probably WONT work when ur dowloading a movie(which probably has a single large file)... it works like this - for instance, the 2GB 'samurai jack' file i was d/l ing had ten seperate episodes(sub-files).To download only the episodes i want, i had to do this - in the 'files' tab of the currently active torrent, choose the file(s) u DONT want to download, right-click on them and check 'do not download' under the 'set priority'...this way, u can d/l only the parts u want. ONE MAJOR THING IS - Azureus takes up the entire disk-space of the d/l as soon as the torrent STARTS...ur gonna need a LOT of hard disk space...choosing the 'Enable incremental file creation' instead of 'Allocate and zero new files on creation' in the configuration>files might help a little keep in touch
-
yes utsav, that would be p2p yes u can d/l his files to ur pc provided ganesh is uploading them and yes, By Definition ur peer(ganesh) has to be online and uploading the concerned file at the same time ...ppl who r u/L ing any such files are the "Seeders"...higher the number of seeders, faster the d/l somewhere in between u two is the "tracker" thro which we d/l and u/l...sorta bridge connecting the peers

yes shaboo, i was shocked at first too...but its a fact - DAP is adware. funny thing is, a lot of Antispyware appz r considered adware/malware by other anti adware/spyware programs..!! they call these "Rogue" Anti-sypware..aggressive marketing, high false positives and so on...Xoftspy is a prime example of 'Rogue' antispyware check out the List of "Rogue" Anti-spyware appz utsav, all is not lost...i had a similar kind of problem with zip file sometime ago... as u kno, the files r split and then joined right - ONLY ONE of them is probably corrupt.... and u wont be needing to d/l the WHOLE thing again...JUST the corrupted piece. now, to find the corrupted piece - what does the "view output" report say ? does it say about WHICH piece is bad? if not, there should be some kinda error report logged in the DAP directory(which is automatically prepared when such a problem occurs)...try to find it... when i had a similar problem with IDM, i wrote an email to the support fellows there - they asked me to send the error report and i did... their solution was this - IDM stores the individual(split) pieces in a folder rite? i had to delete just ONE of the many split pieces in there and then resume download...it worked, and i had a working zipfile without an entire re-download WRITE TO THE DAP support e-mail id...these people actually respond well to customer questions...and they w'd tell u which piece to delete...r some other way out, im sure. (and yes, my IDM was a cracked version too...they still responded) its worth a try...

the cool part of p2p technology is this - since the moviez/aapz are NOT uploaded to any one particular sever(its all in the home pcs of 'peers' like u & me) - copyright infringment rules gets ...er...diluted.... thats y so many movies are available on p2p - this would be out&out illegal if the movie was uploaded to any one server/website BTW, azureus can sorta 'take-over' from torents half-downloaded by OTHER bittorrent clients !
-
i think i'll just ditto nagpai....cant really add much to that....altho we dont "see" the ad banners in the cracked 'premium' versions, stuffs running in ur machine, behind ur back vishal not ONLY spybot s&d, but other anti-syware appz too say that DAP is a certified adware

shaboo, u have Java Runtime Environment right ? Azureus needs that.... and i guess i gotta correct myself - the speeds r pretty good with azureus - when(and only when) im d/ling with azureus, the "session thoroughput" in the rconnect dialer (not the graph) gets as high as 95kbps !! never seen anyother d/l tool utilize the available bandwidth this effeciently
-
Bittorrent is a GREAT p2p.... a LOT of hard-to-find stuff are available as torrents...speeds are NOT that great tho... AFAIK, www.supernova.org is THE best site for torrents.... there r quite a few Bittorrent clients.....im using one "Azureus"...my personal favourite...has a load of options/stats....AND ITS OPEN-SOURCE... needs Java RE... check out www.azureus.sourceforge.net/ Cheers

try Internet download Manager -IDM...absolute work-horse...if ur on a download spree this is gonna be handy it integrates well with all browsers...might need a small adapter for firefox(which it will download by itself) DAP is pretty good...was using it for a long time...problem is, its ad-sponsered...it kinda "calls back home" to speedbit.com and report stuff about us...something like that...infact, a lotta anti-spyware appz identify DAP as an ad-ware prog fit to be removed... besides, even the cracked 'premium' versions of DAP do NOT support the "always resume" function...this s**ks. esp when if u got a looong download Q Flashget and Getright and pretty good too... give'em a try...see which one u like

jus a lil forewarning for co-firefox users 1. Some webpages may not display properly (with ads being blocked, the page layout may get messed up) 2. Certain webpages may not load at all...for ex- windows update 3. My AI Roboform needed a new mozilla plug-in to integrate with firefox 4. Too many extensions may kinda slow the browser....if u feel firefox has gotten sluggish lately for any reason, try this - use the "profile" feature and start with a new profile, which will give us a clean new browser. if u have difficulty reaching the "profile" screen, try start>run>"[type firefox location] -p" this should get us to profile one simple trick is this firefox extension called "open link in IE"..we jus rightclick n click on this to open the link adress in a new internet explorer window keep browsin
