@ razortooth: Thanks for the thoughtful insight. Its true, if it malfunctions, you do tend to pay more to get it rectified if you have to ship it back. But then, I've heard people having extremely lousy experiences with under warranty products being serviced here in India itself. Best option would be to insure the product as soon as it arrives and it also helps if you have connections with folks who make frequent trips to the US. Then, sending it back is a breeze

Have finally come to the conclusion that I shall import the ASUS UL30Vt-A1. LINK Seems like an awesome config. Thanks for all the inputs guys. And a special thank you to Dj for helping me finalise on the Asus UL30 series. The one I have decided on ( the silver version) comes with a toggle-able option between the default integrated Intel graphics chipset and also an additional Nvdia chipset if more GPU power is reqd and runs off a 8 Cell 5600mAh Battery. It has a 4GB DDR3(maxed out)C2D processor & 500GB HDD. It weighs about 1.7kg with the 5600mAh battery which is pretty light I think. Just need to know one clarification from Dj on this since he had also sourced the Asus from the US. Do we need to use a 110 to 220 converter for the power supply that comes with the notebook ? Oh btw, it comes with a 2 year Global warranty! Sweeeet!

@djain: Thanks mate. In fact when in Mumbai I use my friend's Macbook and yes its awesome, but the hassle with it is that the built in support for MS office on Mac is absolute crap. If you try to run macro enabled Excel, it'll throw you into a total loop @Dj: Know what.. I was in fact browsing Amazon yesterday and I did see this particular model you mentioned from Asus. Its a rocking model. I just put it on standby since I dont have anybody coming down from the US in the near future, so sourcing one of these awesome models from vilaayat will postpone my laptop purchase We dont get the best of choices for the cutting edge ultra portables here in India, and that absolutely s**ks! Have to make do with what's offered here I was also looking up the HP EliteBook 2540p and the ThinkPadX210. Haven't got pricing for them as yet but I have a gut feeling they'll be beyond my budget lol

Thanks guys. I saw one by Toshiba.. with acclaimed 11 hours backup.. its the Protege T130 - U3810 at Rs. 45000. The link to it is HERE Just not sure if its the right one so still checking around. Probably will have to finally compromise for a sub 10 hour model if I cant find one in my budget. I detest these Netbooks or I would probably have opted for one of those. I spend a helluva lot of time away & on the move and would rather not keep plugging it in for charging every few hours while working, hence the focus on a brand that can give me longest work time between each charge. Have made a note of Greatest's Acer model... will also check with Dj and finally decide on one of these, including the Toshiba. Thanks once again

Hi guys, I came across a site that ships goods (below Rs.10,000 value) to India duty free and is delivered to your doorstep. Thought I'd share this info with my fellow RIMwebians. They also ship goods valued more than 10k, but then for those items duty has to be paid. The main attraction I saw here is that you can get them to buy stuff from almost any site (Amazon, ebay etc) and ship it to your home. That is, in case you don't see the said product on their own site or even if its highly priced there and you saw a lower price on another site. I would recommend you guys to search for your products on the website, then compare it with the pricing on other shopping stores like ebay.in, shopping.indiatimes.com, sify.com, rediff.com etc and then notify the North20.com team with the price difference and they would for sure offer you the best deal. Buy anything in the world from anywhere in India. This is the link to the site : http://www.20north.com/ Check it out

Late entry, as always... thought I'd add my 2 cents if at all.. The suggestion that the Techie Enclave be locked to only the most genuine and long standing stalwarts of RIMweb is something that could be given a priority. Its not as if the noobs cant get their phones tweaked/unlocked if they dont have access to TE.. I remember as a noob, when I received my first handset from Sadik, I was not a TE member but I got all the help that was needed from Sadik, Karki, Hetal , et all to get my handset up and running. The TE was a privileged section , which the most hardcore and dedicated RIMwebians aspire to get selected to, and I think that is how it should remain. All and sundry don't need to be in there... chaps like Muff, Dhirajbhai and a few others who dedicate a lot of their time and energy fine tuning and tweaking the technologies and making them adaptable for the Indian scenario are the only ones who need to be there.. Even I dont qualify for it, honestly.. I have no qualms about not being part of it either as in the recent past my energies have been directed towards setting up and fine tuning a big business venture, so I have and cannot dedicate time for my phones like I used to earlier. I do hope Arun and the other senior members take a step towards "spring cleaning" the forum and restoring it back to the technically oriented forum which was what had drawn me to this forum first. Cheers!

MP3 / WMA / AMR / AAC Ringtones
Anupe replied to basant_jp's topic in Ringtones / Wallpapers / Themes / Applications / Games
Double vocal point edit of a particular stanza and converted into a multi-loop from the Sajda song in My Name is Khan. My thanks to Sadikk bhai for recommending the album with his post on Facebook, so I'm dedicating this ringtone to him. Cheers Hope somebody likes it lol Sajda_anupe_loop.mp3 -
@Konqueror: Thanks for the suggestion. The reason I specifically asked for " working software" is because 99% of those titter apps don't work on the Reliance network. So if someone has an app they are using, I would rather use that than keep trying out each app and discarding it

Anupe posted a topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Watch out for the new HTC Leo aka HTC Pro Three launching soon. You have two options: Either use dhiraj bhai's suggestion in post# 106, or you can use Seven push mail client and use the RelMobileWorld setting. I have been using the Seven client for over a year and it pushes mail instantly (in fact I get mail on my phone even before it reaches my Gmail inbox) and will replicate the BB experience you are looking for. One caveat is.. be prepared to charge your phone everyday because having data connection on 24/7 (so that the email client can keep accessing the mail servers) will deplete your battery.

@ Tanveerbhai and saurabh159: I think he's asking for an upgrade for the Touch Pro, not the Diamond. The ppc geeks links you guys have posted are for the Diamond. @coolboyashok: I presume you are running on the original sprint ROM that was on the Touch Pro? Could I know why you want to upgrade? Presently the original 6.1 ROM seems to be working just fine and I don't think a stable 6.5 version of the Sprint ROMs is out officially, so you might as well wait for a month or so till the upgraded Sprint ROMs are out in the open.

Check out this emergency charger guys.. useful thing to have if you're nowhere near a charging point http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-EMERGENCY-AA-BATTERY-CHARGER-FOR-HTC-TOUCH-PRO_W0QQitemZ390085965688QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item5ad2ef7778&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

@sunny1974: You need to have data connection on 24/7 if you want push mail to be working perfectly, like in my case. So its not just a "phone" for me like most others... @ Dhiraj bhai: I've noticed the extended battery too , but it makes the phone way too bulky, so instead I ordered for an additional regular size battery and a desktop charger that charges a second battery while using the phone in the cradle http://cgi.ebay.com/BATTERY-CHARGER-AC-USB-CRADLE-FOR-SPRINT-HTC-TOUCH-PRO_W0QQitemZ300290522124QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item45eab5bc0c&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14

Both CDMA and GSM dont work simultaneously, do they?
-
^^^ That would be impossible Dhiraj bhai. Remember, it was working perfectly all these days.
-
^^^ I think he can follow thread number 61333 of ppc-geeks (your post #11 here has the link to that thread). Imperative that the SD card is formatted to FAT32 first though.
-
My very best wishes, tanveer. Have an absolutely rocking year.
-
Was the exact same procedure in your TE thread he's used, Dhiraj. If the initial unlocking sequence had an error it shouldn't have worked for so long, dont you think? He can actually get to the cmonex bootloader screen, so I presume, loading the RUU to a formatted SD card and flashing from there might get him back to the original radio?
-
Dhiraj bhai, do you think flashing the RUU by loading it from SD card might work?
-
^^^^ Its all application specific I guess. Mine hardly lasts a day, but then I have data connection on 24/7, so that's probably the reason.
