  7. http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?newsid=1212127 Wi-fi software turns an iPod into a phone Agencies Monday, December 08, 2008 02:08 IST NEW YORK: A freeware application for the iPod Touch can turn the music player into a virtual mobile phone. Truphone uses wi-fi technology in an iPod Touch to allow users to make calls to other iPod Touch owners and Google Talk’s messaging service users. The software is a spin-off from technology Truphone developed for smartphones and iPhones. The developers plan to have the ability to make calls to and from landlines in place very soon. Truphone is the latest firm to offer voice over internet protocol (VoIP), alongside Unlicensed Mobile Access and proprietary protocols such as Skype. Geraldine Wilson—Truphone’s CEO—said the firm had ambitions to become a global internet player. “There are a slew of new features we’re rolling out for the iPod Touch that will let users call landlines, Skype users or send instant messages. We’re talking weeks, not months, before these go live.” Although Truphone technology can, in theory, work on any mobile device, the firm is concentrating on devices that have an application store. “We’ve decided to focus on devices that are wi-fi enabled and have an apps-store. For the consumer, there has to be an easy way of downloading an application.” “Our focus on the consumer side—at least in the short term—is finding devices that fit that category,” said Ms Wilson. The only catch is that for a wi-fi connection to work, users need to be within range of a wi-fi network. Truphone founder—James Tagg—said that the technology also worked on other mobile devices, albeit in a slightly different way. “If you were using Truphone on a Blackberry, it will use cellular technology to log into the Truphone’s website.” “From here you can make an international call, call a user on VoIP, or send an instant message.” “Because the first leg of the call—from the user to our server—is charged at local rate, you’re talking a bill of pennies, rather than pounds, to call, say the United States.”

  12. Thank you all for the quick response. I am using the latest version of Opera Mini. I took the link from here itself.. Secondly, for the memory card, can someone help me procure it, or share some details of supplier. Can you confirm, all microsd cards would come with adaptor? I was referring at stuff at below link... Can I buy any of these? http://shop.rediff.com/shop/searchv3.jsp?s...p;search=Search and lastly, I missed one point earlier... The phone restarts too often... can this be corrected or checked? Thanks again.
  13. Suddendly, am feeling a little less dumb... Still looking for support.
  14. Hi all, Its been a week I bought Treo, but am hardly able to use any better than making and receiving calls. My questions might sound a little dumb but please excuse 1. I have made all settings as suggested but still the opera does not work. I installed the java files, set the memory to highest.. got the primary and secondary ngg, browser and advanced settings done, still the OPERA does not work. As soon as i start the application, after accepting the application closes on its own. Btw, google maps do work, though a little slow. 2. Btw, can the phone be switched off completely? I mean not just service (reliance) but the hardware itself? 3. There is no Rworld icon. Do I need to bring that icon? or do i need surf the wap site of rworld (After sorting point 1) 4. Memory CARD - I am told this would require Mini SD card. But Mini SD card do not come more than 2gb. The 8 GB card I read on forum is Micro SD with Adapter... Is it? If so, where can I buy it? None of people whom I buy stuff from, have heard abt this... 5. The conference button does not seem to work. In my earlier Nokia 6275, I used to press 3 and green button for conference... How do we do conference on Troe? 6. Can I add Music on Phone (Not Memory Card). If so how? Hot sync does not have the option. 7. Suddenly, since the time I am using Treo, the call drops too regularly. This was not case with my nokia earlier. Any particular setting to check? I am sure, people on forum would help me with these. Thanks in advance. I hope to use Treo, to the its fullest capability soon...
