Videocon Bids To Acquire Motorola's Mobile Handset Biz
Dj replied to @ksh@T's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
CNNMoney.com NEW YORK (Fortune) -- Motorola may have just had its worst week ever. It started with a joyless plan to jettison the mobile phone business last Wednesday. The announcement pushed the stock to a four-year low. That play was followed by a forfeit - a glaring absence of new phones at the wireless industry's event going on now in Las Vegas. But the crowning achievement of the week has to be an unsolicited, and so far unacknowledged offer for the phone unit from Videocon, a big consumer electronics company in India. The news that the suitor wasn't exactly Nokia (NOK) or Sony Ericsson or even China's ZTE brought home a message that many Motorola (MOT, Fortune 500) watchers have already come to uncomfortable terms with: The once proud phone giant has fallen to bargain basement levels. Some observers have even gotten to an actual estimated dollar value for the money-losing phone business, if Motorola were to spin it off. Money manager-cum-blogger Chad Brand wrote Monday that the remaining businesses, like set-top TV boxes, wireless infrastructure and the walkie-talkie operations, would trade for about $8 a share. At the time, Motorola' stock price was hovering around $9, meaning the phone business was worth roughly $1 a share. At these prices, it's probably not terribly surprising that some far-flung potential bidders have taken an interest in the No. 3 phone maker. There was no dollar value attached to the Videocon inquiry, and chairman Venugopal Dhoot did not immediately reply to an e-mail. Videocon's most recent takeover plays include a failed bid for South Korea's Daewoo electronics, the successful acquisition of Thomson's cathode ray TV tube business and the purchase of Electrolux's India unit. To be sure, India is a rising player in the global market. The recent $2.3 billion deal by Tata Motors (TTM) to acquire Ford's (F, Fortune 500) Jaguar and Land Rover units is the most recent illustration of the growing financial power of India's industrialists. But in this case, Tata has some experience in the auto industry with 22 years of car manufacturing. If nothing else, Videocon's ambitions are high. The company plans to launch a wireless phone service by year end and hopes to have 20 million customers in four years, Dhoot told Bloomberg in an interview earlier this year. But Videocon will need substantial financing to swing a deal for Motorola's handset operation, even at these prices. Notably, its $711 million bid for Daewoo was ultimately rejected by creditors. Next week could bring more offers. But this being Motorola, it could also be the even worse week ever _______________________________________ Apologies for having posted it as a new topic... -

Market sources say that the Apple iPhone has been in short supplies in the US market. Several retail stores are already out of stock. Analysts believe that this could possibly be the sign of faster launch of the much awaited Apple iPhone 3G edition. However, it could also be related to problems in the Apple iPhone supply chain. Bernstein Research said in a report that if the shortage continues, Apple could lose sales of up to 40,000 units a week. An Apple spokesperson had this to say on the reports: “We are working to replenish iPhone supplies as quickly as we can and our stores continue to receive shipments almost every day.” Source: TechWhack News

great Sunny... now u could possibly start giving others a good comparative feedback abt the same

^^ i dont think hard reset is the problem here... and the user clearly states that he can put the phone in the bootloader mode so that aint an issue either... what i assume could be a problem is perhaps the wrong rom tool to flash... @hellangelo are u using the no-id flashtool to flash these roms? just a thought...

the qlty of music depends entirely on the bitrate of the mp3 (compression quality) and the nature of headset. since windows media player is used to play mp3 (and u have other choices also) the sound is good... u just need a good pair of headphones to enjoy the music... alternatively u could use one of the stereo bluetooth headphones for wirefree music as 6800 comes equipped with bluetooth 2.0 for a2dp adn avcrp profiles... tata can activate any cdma instrument if u pursue them enough... hetal (member) got this done when he culdnt find a work around to make this phone functional on reliance intially... things have changed now... u have ways to make it work both by tweaking the software of the phone or by having a ruim tray soldered into it by a professional to use tata tsim in it... so go ahead and buy it and once u have it u could approach tata to enable the instrument by registering its esn into their network...

windows mobile phone is stable... problem starts when u want too much done... u end up overloading the phone with softwares, some of which are conflicting in nature and there begins the problem... an ideal way to obtain a stable phone is to take regular backups of your best software and efficiency mix... testing the phone with new softwares one at a time to see if they work fine with the rest of the configs of the phone and then making that as a restore point, moving on. battery usage is true but has workarounds... moreoever there are tweaks to keep the phone going while conserving the battery... however if u have a fairly high usage of the phone then maybe yes u need to charge the phone more than once during the day... the OS though is good and very very customizable... u can just abt change everything to your choice... its a very very dynamic OS base for users who like to experiment and be adventurous... just my two cents...

Will Reliance Shift From Cdma To Gsm?
Dj replied to suvirajshetty's topic in Reliance Communications
as far as the customer care goes suviraj... changing the technology within the same company want make a difference to their work ethic or customer service... but i would support the idea that the gsm lot being happier with the service is a myth... they're as bad... but for the fact that they can switch operators keeping the same handset or change handsets easily keeping the same sim... -
as long as it decongests the line... u almost never get accross to the cust care on the the first or even the second call... just today i had to try 7 times before getting the line to ring on *333

nk 2112 has so far been the best low priced instru for reliance
-
Anshuman... the answer to your question is NO... gsm instruments cannot work with cdma carriers and vice versa... they might look and feel the same... as in the US u have almost every other phone available for both cdma and gsm carriers simultaneously... so a BB 8800 cdma would work with reliance provided it works with ruim (cdma sim) or has been provisioned by reliance itslelf...

but it was pretty predictable this year... last year it was more fun...

i think its the human need to be prepared with the next generation technology... i remember buying a gsm phone with gprs as a feature long before gprs started here in india... when gprs came abt i had already switched four instrus since that one... but i think evdo is the buzzword now... nd bsnl having announced it... others should follow suit... no harm speculating though -
food for the wishlist... it just never ends
