  9. And Now Google Phone !

Source - http://www.tech2.com/india/news/smart-mobi...e-phone/15741/0 HTC May Develop Google Phone The Google Phone has been in the works for a long time. Concepts for this phone have been floating around for ages. Of course nothing is conclusive as to whether or not Google is actually going to be coming out with a mobile of their own. However, some of the designs are way out there and look astounding. What specs these mobiles will have are also a little vague. But there’s no harm in dreaming, is there? Naturally, we expect it to have G-Talk, Gmail, Google Maps, and Google Search as standard applications. Let's not forget YouTube as another feature that's likely to be included by default. Apparently, all of this could be going down in Google’s office in Cambridge, UK, but it’s all very hush-hush. It also looks likely that HTC just might be the guys hired to get the phone off the drawing board. According to Om Malik down at gigaom , he has a bit of a scoop on a few facts that Google is incorporating into their phone. For instance, he says it should run on a Mobile Linux platform and have Java capability. The biggest question on everybody’s mind is – will it be here before the next-gen iPhone and how will it compare? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what Google comes up with. When we get the dope you can bet you’ll know as well!

Source - http://www.tech2.com/india/news/smart-mobi...-iphone/15801/0 Apple to Launch 16GB, 3G iPhone? It's not official, but leaked iPhone campaign ads from T-Mobile Germany portray a different story. The iPhone is not likely to be announced in Europe until November, but the grapevine has it that it's to be equipped with 3G, supporting both US-friendly HSDPA format and the Europe-specific UMTS. The leaked ad also claims a 16GB iPhone, with a 2MP camera in keeping with the version launched in the US. According to the ad, the 3G iPhone will be priced at 499 Euros and will come with a coupon for the iTunes store. T-Mobile has obviously not confirmed any of this, but it's been seen posting text banners and product shots on its own website, as posted by http://blogs.zdnet.com/ip-telephony/?p=2318
  17. Source - http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/News/Detai...px?NewsId=21376 OQO Inc. has just released new versions of the model 02, currently the world's smallest PC capable of running Windows Vista. The company has increased the storage capacity, processor speed, and wireless data transfer speed of its line of UMPCs. It has also dropped the price for its least expensive model, even as it improves the feature set. Hard Drives The improvements to the OQO model 02 line start with a choice of high-capacity storage options. In an industry first, OQO now offers an ultra-mobile PC with a 120 GB hard disk. In addition, the company has increased drive capacities for two of its devices: to 40 GB in the entry-level model, and to 80 GB in the standard high-end configuration. For users requiring an even more advanced storage solution, OQO now offers a version of the model 02 with a flash-based 32 GB solid state drive. The SSD provides up to 50 percent faster boot and application launch times, as well as increased battery life and ruggedness. Faster Process and Wireless Connectivity The high-end versions of the model 02 now include a 1.6 GHz processor, another industry first in a UMPC. In addition, for the first time, all but OQO's entry-level model can have EV-DO Rev. A added to them. Previously the original version of this 3G cellular-wireless networking standard was all that was available. Service is available through either Sprint or Verizon. Entry-Level Price Drop Some might object to calling a $1,300 computer an "entry-level" device, but this is $200 less than OQO's least expensive model used to sell for. At the same time, the hard drive in this version jumps up to 40 GB. This Windows XP model has a 1.2 GHz processor, and is limited to EV-DO Rev. 0. Other versions of the model 2 sell for $1700 (1.5 GHz, 60 GB HD), $1850 (1.6 GHz, 80 GB HD), $1950 (1.6 GHz, 120 GB HD), $2350 (1.6 GHz, 32 GB SSD).
  18. Source - http://www.rediff.com/news/2007/sep/11cell.htm Karnataka bans sale of mobile phones to kids Smoking, liquor has always been out of bounds for minors. But now mobile phones too will follow suit in Karnataka. The state government has announced that mobile phones shall not be sold to children below the age of 16. This would mean that there shall be a statutory warning outside mobile shops saying that children below 16 will not be entitled to buy mobile phones. This announcement was made by Minister of State for Education Basavaraj Horatti. He also announced that the use of mobile phones will be banned in all schools and colleges. Horatti said that mobile phones are a hindrance to a child and hence it was in their best interests that it is banned. Horatti said that the issue would be discussed in the Cabinet and then an official order would be passed. The order will also spell out the punishment to those selling mobiles to children below the age of 16. The ban on the usage of mobile phones will also apply to professional colleges.
  19. Nokia today officially unveiled the Prism collection, its latest range of fashionable mobile phones. The first two representatives of the Prism collection are the Nokia 7900 Prism and the Nokia 7500 Prism both running on Series 40 3rd Edition user interface. They come with some interesting light effects and feature a geometric pattern design that seems inspired by the exclusive Vertu series mobiles. Photos of the Nokia 7900 Prism leaked more than a month ago, so it doesn't come as a big surprise, the detailed specifications published today however are more than welcome. The Nokia 7900 Prism sports a 2" QVGA OLED display supporting up to 16 million colors. The user can choose among 49 illumination colors both for the display and the keypad. In addition, the Nokia 7900 Prism features a "living" wallpaper, which changes dynamically taking into account the time of day, and the battery and signal strength status thus creating unique graphics for your home screen. Another distinguishable feature of the Nokia 7900 Prism is that according to the manufacturer it should be able to provide a total of 9 hours music playing time. In terms of connectivity, Nokia 7900 Prism sports quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support plus dual-band UMTS. In addition to a 2 megapixel camera with flash, the Nokia 7900 Prism comes with 1GB of internal memory (no memory card slot available). As in other most recent Nokia phones, the 7900 Prism uses a microUSB port for data transfers, a less popular connectivity port as compared to the widely accepted miniUSB. The Nokia 7900 will be available in the third quarter of 2007 with an estimated retail price of 400 EUR. The tri-band Nokia 7500 Prism is not as feature-rich as its sibling, but is still distinguished with the same geometry-driven style and design. Worthy of mentioning are the 2 megapixel camera with flash, 16M colors QVGA TFT display, FM radio, microSD card slot, EDGE and GPRS connectivity. The Nokia 7500 Prism is surely not breaking news since it appeared in the Chinese Nokia website almost a month ago, and is already available in selected markets for around 210 EUR.

  22. Source - http://www.telegraphindia.com/1070910/asp/...ory_8298579.asp New Delhi, Sept. 9: About half the country’s telemarketing firms remain outside the reach of the do-not-call registry, more than a week after the deadline passed. Telemarketers — all agencies that make calls or send texts to sell products — were asked in June to register with the department of telecom before September 1 or forfeit their licence. So far, 14,750 firms with around 4.5 lakh telephone lines have applied for registration with telecom service providers or directly with the department. The applications are being verified before certificates are issued. An estimated 25,000 to 30,000 telemarketers operate in the country, making over 1,000 crore unsolicited calls a year. Around 3 lakh people are employed by these firms, many of which also double as call centres. “Telemarketers have been given some more time to register before the government cancels their licence to make calls or send messages,” a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) official said. In June, when Trai issued directives to check unsolicited calls, it had said: “In case a telemarketer fails to register with DoT by the end of August 2007, their telecom services would get disconnected and they would not be allowed to make any calls or send messages.” A national do-not-call registry would be up from September, it said, and any phone subscriber who wanted to block marketing calls could do so by signing up with it. The registry is now open and subscribers can expect unsolicited calls to stop by the end of October. The National Informatics Centre, authorised to set up the registry to maintain a record of users who do not want unsolicited commercial calls, has readied a scrubbing module which is being validated by Trai. Once the module is functional, Trai will ask all telemarketers registered with it to get their calling list scrubbed — so that they would be able to dial only those numbers which are not listed in the do-not-call registry. Telemarketers who violate the rules and call a number on the do-not-call list will be fined Rs 500 for each unwanted call or message the first time. The fine will double for the second offence. In the third instance, the telemarketer’s line will be disabled. Since a majority of telemarketers are employed by the banking sector, Trai has asked the Reserve Bank of India and the Indian Banks’ Association to ensure that firms without a registration certificate from the department are not hired. The certificates will be valid for 10 years.
