  1. Phones Burst, Panic Spreads

Buddy there's no proof as of now that the person who got injured yesterday was using Fake battery or the original one.. If it was a fresh handset(less than 1 year) than Nokia is responsible no doubt abt it has to compensate the victim than.. no one is getting paranoid buddy just wanna say that people now should get out of the comfort thinking zone abt Nokia that they cant make any mistakes & also owing up abt it is nothing great.. Fact is that Nokia's market reputation has taken a real beating after this battery issue not number wise(sales r still OK) but people r now apprehensive abt Nokia earlier they were not.. people were used to buying Nokia mobiles only.. but now they r thinking should i buy Nokia or not? Everyone one knows how good our indian roads r for mishaps .. we r not discussing the accidents menace here .. talk abt Battery issue only i just wanna say that Nokia has to provide the replacement battery in 2 days.. thats it

  5. Phones Burst, Panic Spreads

@KumaarShah What i am trying to say is that its Nokia who is at fault owing up the fault does not make them worthy they r supplying their substandard mobiles in India .. I think Nokia should compensate the victims Nokia's advisory states that batteries may heat up while charging but now they r actually exploding so whose fault it is .. it is nokia which is at fault .. Nokia has to come with a solution & also replace the battery within 2 working days why the hell r taking so much time(14 days) to replace a battery .. They can use 1 day shipping for this battery replacement its easily available worldwide there r many Courier companies(Fed ex, UPS) which deliver within 24 hours Nokia says India is the best market for them and this is what they r doing for their customers Of course everyone knows one cannot live without mobile for a minute but they have to do without their mobiles atleast for 2 days .. thats what i feel whether one likes it or not

  8. Phones Burst, Panic Spreads

Source - http://www.telegraphindia.com/1070829/asp/...ory_8250030.asp Jammu, Aug. 28 (PTI): A woman was injured when the battery of her mobile phone “exploded” while she was talking on her phone, officials said today. Kareena Bali, a resident of Kathua district, received injuries on her face and hands. A mobile phone company had declared the same series of battery unfit. Now i guess people should understand what i meant by saying life is much more important than a mobile Even though this is a one off case as people would say i would still suggest that if your battery is among the affected lot get it replaced as early as possible dont wait & think i will do this after some time .. If this woman had replaced her battery than she would not have suffered this fate..
  9. Source - Times of India epaper New Delhi: The telecom boom has transformed the lives of millions of people, but has also set alarm bells ringing over its possible health hazards as the government is now considering norms that suggest taking precautionary steps to minimise risks associated with use of mobile phones. The draft guidelines prepared by the Telecom Engineering Centre and under consideration of the department of telecom (DoT) have suggested, among other things, that children below 16 years should be discouraged from using cellular phones. It pointed out that phones and base station antennas used by telecom operators radiate energy that heats up tissues and may be harmful to human beings, especially kids. “The tissues of children are tender and therefore, they are likely to be more affected by use of mobile phones. Children below 16 years age should be discouraged from using mobile phones,” the draft guidelines suggested. The draft noted that even World Health Organisation (WHO) was studying if there were harmful effects of electromagnetic fields on human beings but the results have been inconclusive. WHO has, however, suggested a precautionary approach and also come out with a model legislation and framework on electromagnetic field and health standards. Many countries such as Canada, USA, EU, Australia, Japan and China have implemented this precautionary approach in different forms.

  15. Free Unlimited Storage On Yahoo Mail

Yahoo Mail Out of Beta New Features The new Yahoo Mail interface went into public beta in September 2006, although Yahoo was testing it long before that. Tonight Yahoo takes the “beta” label off of the product and makes it the default interface for all new Yahoo mail accounts. Yahoo mail already has an integrated RSS reader and instant messaging. They also recently announced unlimited storage for all mail users. They are also releasing a few new features. Shortcuts: Mail now has a number of intelligent shortcuts. Things like addresses, places, dates, contact information, etc. are underlined with blue dots. Click on the link and see a mashup with maps (for addresses), travel guides (for places), calendar (for dates), etc. New services are being added regularly. SMS/Text Messaging: Yahoo wants you to use their mail application whenever you contact your friends, however you contact them. In addition to emailing or instant messaging clients, you can now send them a text message from the mail interface. Their responses also come in directly to Yahoo Mail. It currently works for U.S., India, Philippines and Canadian mobile numbers. Is Yahoo Mail a better webmail application than GMail? In our comparisons GMail always comes out on top, although the main reason is tagging of messages and the fact that GMail gives free forwarding and POP access to the account. Yahoo still charges $20/year for forwarding or POP access. For users who still like their desktop mail clients, POP access is an important feature. Yahoo says they are considering making it a free option, but they have a lot of paying mail customers. If they make too many features free, they jeopardize that revenue stream. Offering unlimited free storage really pushed the limits, so I don’t expect them to move more features from paid to free any time soon. The new interface is the final realization of Yahoo’s 2004 acquisition of Ajax pioneer Oddpost. The new mail product is based largely on ideas first launched by Oddpost in 2002.

  18. Source - http://www.techtree.com/India/News/Motorol...-82950-615.html Motorola has unveiled the RAZR 2 in the Indian market, which features CrystalTalk technology, up to 2GB of on-board memory, and fast menu navigation among other things. Motorola claims the RAZR 2 shaves at least two millimeters off of the original RAZR, making it a sleek- and slim- looking phone. Sporting a seamless casing, soft touch back, and vacuum metal front, the flip phone (cast aluminium hinge) has at it's core a stainless steel frame for enhanced strength. The 2.0-inches external screen is for readable texts and crisp picture caller IDs, while the internal screen is about 2.2-inches. Motorola claims the RAZR 2 V8 has a completely redesigned user interface (UI) with customizable main menu. An interesting feature is the ability of the phone to 'talk' to consumers, essentially developed for the visually impaired but convenient for other users as well. To read messages, users don't have to flip open the phone. And, they can reply in the same way with pre-programmed text messages. Besides, the external display incorporates Motorola's 'haptics' technology providing users with a vibrating feedback in response to the tap of their fingers. This, in combination with virtual music keys enables users better control their music. The RAZR 2 incorporates Motorola's CrystalTalk technology, which as the name suggests, adjusts audio in such a way so as to ensure clear calls even in a noisy environment. The handset has a 2.0 mega pixels camera with a multi-shot feature to help users automatically click up to 8 new pictures, of which they can select the best in the series. Significantly, the RAZR 2 runs on Linux/Java, and is armed with a new ARM 11 processor, whose processing speed, Motorola claims, is around 10 times that of the original RAZR. Salient other features of the phone include: high-speed USB 2.0 for faster music transfer, 512MB or 2GB memory, stereo Bluetooth wireless technology, compatibility with Microsoft Windows Media Player 11, full HTML Web browser, Web browsing experience powered by Google mobile search, and built-in email functionality. The RAZR 2 V8 is immediately available at MotoStores across the country, and through participating retailers. While the RAZR 2 V8 512MB Deluxe Pack is available for a best buy price of Rs 18,999 (MRP Rs 20,428), the 2GB Premium Pack with in-box Bluetooth S705 is available for a best buy price of Rs 19,999 (MRP Rs 21,549).
  19. Now I Love Iphone

Source - http://www.techtree.com/India/News/Sevente...-82951-615.html Seventeen Year Old Unlocks iPhone It took a nerdy teenager, a soldering iron, and a couple of energy drinks to 'unlock' Apple Computer's iconic iPhone. Seventeen-year old George Hotz from New Jersey spent 500-odd hours (an entire summer) trying to free the iPhone from AT&T's clutches. Hotz posted the hack on his blog Thursday. Which could lead to the mushrooming of an entire industry devoted only to buying of iPhones, unlocking them, and selling them to people who don't have or don't want the AT&T service. However, the hack is complicated and requires skill with soldering and software. A wrong step here or there could render the iPhone useless. Apple Computer and AT&T refused to comment on Hotz' exploit. An earlier method deployed to make the iPhone work overseas involves copying information from the SIM chip or Subscriber Identity Module. This method does not require any soldering expertise or special equipment. Meanwhile, both hacks leave intact the iPhone's many functions, including built-in camera and ability to access Wi-Fi networks. By now both procedures have been publicly disclosed so Apple can get down to the task of modifying it's iPhones to making them immune to such hacks... Hotz, who said he collaborated online with a large number of people to develop the unlocking process, put up his unlocked iPhone for sale on eBay on Thursday. The highest bid reportedly was $12,600 late Friday. The 4GB iPhone model actually sells for $499.

  22. Source - http://www.techtree.com/India/News/TRAI_Ob...-82805-613.html Earlier this week, two major GSM operators Hutch and Airtel increased SMS tariffs by a flat 20 percent. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reportedly taken a strong objection against the hike, and has decided to safeguard the interests of consumers. Both Airtel and Hutch have increased their local call and SMS charges from Re 1 to Rs 1.20; and STD charges from Rs 2 to Rs 2.40 for post-paid subscribers, and to Rs 2.65 for pre-paid subscribers. According to TRAI, the hike in tariffs is neither in favor of consumers nor is it transparent. TRAI says operators are required to inform changes in the tariff structure to customers as well as the regulator to maintain awareness and transparency. TRAI said it is responsible for ensuring that mobile tariffs are subscriber-friendly and that operators in no way burden subscribers with unwarranted call charges. Besides, any hike in charges has to be justifiable. While TRAI cannot directly interfere in tariff matters as operators are free to decide their own tariffs, the regulatory authority feels it can always ask operators to give a logical reason for the hike. In the event, operators do not take heed and roll back on the hike, TRAI will ensure reduction either by launching a new consultation process or by issuing new directions under an earlier process. Meanwhile, the interesting thing about the hike is that both Hutch and Airtel have raised tariffs at the same time -- that too when Telecommunications Minister, Andimuthu Raja, is looking at further bringing down call charges.
