Apple plans to launch a cheaper version of the iPhone in the fourth quarter that could be based on the ultra-slim iPod Nano music player, according to a JP Morgan report. Kevin Chang, a JP Morgan analyst based in Taiwan, cited people in the supply channel and an application with the U.S Patent and Trademark office for his report dated July 8. Apple filed a patent application document dated July 5 that refers to a multifunctional handheld device with a circular touch pad control, similar to the Nano's scroll wheel. Sales in the first weekend of the iPhone aavailability were as high as 700,000 units, according to estimations. Chang said a way to follow up the iPhone with a cheaper version would be to convert the Nano into a phone and price it at $300 or lower. The iPhone sells for $500 and $600, depending on storage space. Another analyst Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray said he expects Apple to bring out iPods that resemble iPhone, which features such as a touch-sensitive screen, later this year. Sales of the iPhone are expected to be limited to a small percentage of the market due to its high price tag, particularly in the United States where 85 percent of consumers tend to spend $100 or less on cell phones. But analysts forecast that a cheaper phone from Apple, which leads the digital music player market, could pose a much bigger threat to long-established phone makers such as Nokia , Motorola, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.

@ Kshah you are bang on target I agree with your views every product unleashed on the market is not perfect in the first go it takes time for it to improve same goes with iphone .. it will or can only improve as the time goes on perhaps people have already lost their patience and have given their verdict on it based on its shortcomings no one is ready to wait for iphone version 2
  7. Now I Love Iphone

BTW...when you are over with your love with iphone...read Hetal's posts across the forum and his valuable suggestions and contributions and may be you'll realize the shallowness of the statements you've made. I do not believe in setting up the flames but the people who are real asset to this forum should be treated well and given regard....just my 2 cents.. Be happy, turn on your Ipod. listen to some good music and enjoy your sunday Haha This is a discussion forum so i said what i feel & hetal said what he feels abt iphone tumne apple products kabhi use nahi kiye so i dont give much thought to your comments When people like you get rid of your negative mindset than you would realise that nothing is perfect in this world Iphone has some shortcomings agreed but dear you cant understand what i am saying wait for Iphone version 2 which apple is planning very shortly agar usme bhi shortcomings ko address nahi kiya jata tab theek hain u can turn on your crusade As far as Sunday goes i am happy to watch my Favorite Roger Federer in action tonight Hype me agar 1 million mobiles bikte hain in 1 week na toh hype hi sahi All those who do business will take that anyday anytime I never said Iphone is the best i am just supporting it thats it coz i like it tum log hi rai ka pahad bana rahe ho Anyways Enjoy your sunday dude

ipod is the best selling mp3 player in Music market can anyone beat it no chance in hell mac os is outstanding very few bugs awesome os ... compared to windows which has bugs galore those who use mac OS never uses windows again , imac is an outstanding notebook all these r expensive still Apple products has a huge massive fan following all over the world Coming back to iphone yes some features which r missing i am sure they will be rectified when iphone version 2 is launched MMS facility , external memory card & Bluetooth A2DP support they all will be there.. Apple is too smart they know they have to include these features to further strengthen the sales of Iphone not just in USA but all over the world.... So lets wait for Iphone version 2 & its launch in India ..
  10. Now I Love Iphone

oh ya ipod is hype , mac os is hype , imac is hype those who have used apple products only they know their real worth for others its just hype expensive ... well quality never comes cheap @ amit jain wow your reason for iphone hatred is bcoz its expensive brilliant thought man way to go
  11. Now I Love Iphone

Eh mate....everybody has got the freedom to express and I don't think Hetal is doing any harm by telling you what Iphone misses.....he is quite logical with his reviews, This review is lot good for the people who might be hanging on to buy iphone and have postponed their decision to buy any other handset. I was curios to replace my Nokiae61 with this dumb apple device but now I won't I like your Robert Schuller kind of thinking to be postive with everything in life....but may be lot many like me and Hetal and others want to be realistic and find whats good and whats not when they want to spend their hard earned money... No reason to offend you but I don't see why you are in so much close affinity with something which has not even launched in India..or you trying to raise your post count... HAHA i can raise my post count by posting bekaar , nonsense stuff but that i have never done & i will never do that Well he has his views and i have my views I have not stopped him from depicting his views as what Kshah says this is not a business phone so people who bought this phone should already have known what features this mobile has ab yeh bolna ke yeh business phone nahin hain is illogical(absurd) ... Apple has not marketed this as a Smart Business Phone its being marketed as a Multimedia phone Anyways it all boils down to personal choice mujhe Apple products damn good lagte hain since i have used them so i like them Jisko Iphone buy karna hain they will buy it jisko nahi buy karna dont buy it its as simple as that Rai ka Pahad banane ki koi jaroorat nahin hain Joh mobile yaha abhi aaya nahin uske bare me speculate karna abhi bekaar hain yaar Ek baar Iphone yaha aajaye uske baad jee bharke criticise ya appreciate karna

As i have already said let the Iphone first arrive in India than all the critics can start their crusade against it Abhie se iphone yeh hain usme yeh nahi hain woh nahi hain bolna bekaar hain ( absurd thinking) as far as i know it will be launched in India (4 GB version) between 20000 - 25000 rupees Another thing agar negative mindset rakhoge toh phir negative vichaar hi ayenge aur negative reviews hi yaha post kiye jaynege As far as i know Iphone version 2 will be launched in India(official launch time) somewhere in 3rd quarter of 2008 "Iphone version 2 will be launched in India & i think it will have all the features which r missing in Iphone right now atleast some new features will be added which r missing definitely " So till than just be restrained in your comments abt it.. Aur jise khali criticise karna hain they r most welcome to write anything they want .. it doesn't matter to me what a bunch of people thinks abt Iphone i dont give a damn to those negative mindset people..

So what do you expect they will give you their product for free ... they r not an NGO Every company makes a product for profit ... be it Microsoft, Apple , Reliance , Oracle & every product has some bugs u cant make a product which is 100% perfect .. Iphone bugs will be fixed by the time Iphone will be launched in India Anyways Apple is not a company like Microsoft which makes products which r full of bugs Those who r just interested in criticizing they will always try to find some bug or error in a product As far as Iphone is concerned whether u like it or not its a Smash Hit everywhere right now in USA... people in USA r not fools that they will waste their 3000$ for a mobile phone ... Iphone is Class & Class is permanent Well i am not criticizing, just my thoughts for this much hyped product. They making more than 100% margin, which is quite huge comparing to us who struggle hard to make 5% profit. and ya i dont want these in charity, i buy everything with my hard earned money, its a different matter for those who got load of money lying from their BAAP KA KAMAI, they can afford to be BIG time fan of these kindof company. not my cup of tea. Mind your language Everyone here does a lot of hard work to earn money ... U dont decide what one needs to buy and what one needs to do ok Ur not GOD !! U r not interested in Iphone than dont bother to comment on Iphone its as simple as that Apple will decide at what price they will set the price of a product u cant decide u dont have that power !! Even i can use this kind of derogatory remarks but i am not that type What i said is simple criticism is ok but should be be constructive criticism Here in India its hard to earn money bcoz there's so much of competition In USA its a diff scenario Never use language which can hurt other people's sentiments thats all i can advice you .. @ Moderator - Those who use bad language should be instantly banned on this forum..

An Apple iPhone update: Should you wait for a better deal, or a better phone? A tech-industry exec who used to work at Apple reminded that, "It's conventional wisdom you should never buy a first-generation Apple product." He also said that "the second- and third-generation iPhones are already being prepped for release, respectively, just before Thanksgiving and then at MacWorld in January." Richard Doherty speculates that Apple could quickly cut the cost of an iPhone to $350 by "eliminating the Wi-Fi." He suggests that models in the near future will feature larger 4-inch screens and AT&T's current, sluggish 2.5G [generation] transmission technology will be upgraded to a more-robust 3G standard. He also notes that Apple has a history of rapidly increasing a device's memory. "With the iPod, it's been 50 percent a year." Given that a single feature-length film download from iTunes occupies about 1 gigabyte of memory, a movie buff's first-gen iPhone could get clogged fast. One way around that - not yet announced but likely coming - would be for Apple to offer a variation of its .mac head-end data locker service. "You could keep 10 gigs worth of music stored in their server, and then tell the system to download, say, a specific 2 gigs' worth for the weekend - different music than you'd like to hear during the week," said Doherty. "Apple has lots of cute tricks up its sleeve like that one, that's going to make this product very desirable and hard for competitors to match." Apple chief Steve Jobs sees the iPhone as more of a hip "everyman" product, a multimedia pleasure chest for the same cool, multitasking set that's been clamoring for the iPod since 2001. Jobs predicts he'll move 10 million iPhones in its first year. See Apple has already decided abt the Iphone version 2 It should be a treat for all of us when Iphone is available in India next year... Bringing the cost down would only further strengthen the sales of Iphone in India.. @kshah i definitely agree with you Apple products r damn good quality hence they can definitely charge a premium value for it...

Apple's 8Gbyte version of the iPhone has a total hardware manufacturing cost of $265.83, generating a margin in excess of 55 percent on each 8Gbyte iPhone sold at the $599.00 retail price, according to iSupply. The research company reported the results of its teardown analysis of the Apple iPhone, conducted last weekend. "Apple's 8Gbyte version of the iPhone has a total hardware BoM and manufacturing cost of just $265.83, generating a margin in excess of 55 percent on each 8Gbyte iPhone sold at the $599.00 retail price," said Andrew Rassweiler, principal analyst for iSuppli. Note that these costs do not include royalties and logistics expenses. The analysis also showed that Infineon, a new supplier to the iPod family, is among the biggest winners in terms of semiconductor content. The German semiconductor supplier contributed the digital baseband, radio-frequency transceiver and power-management devices, providing much of the core communications capability of the iPhone. Altogether, Infineon?s silicon content accounted for $15.25 worth of the iPhone BoM, representing 6.1 percent of the 8Gbyte version of the product?s total cost. National?s contribution to the iPhone BoM is relatively small, with its lone chip in the product costing $1.50, which represents less than 1 percent of total product cost. However, the part?a serial display interface?represents an important design win for National, which has never had a part in an iPod. The chip, which connects the display to the graphics controller, uses National?s Mobile Pixel Link standard, which the company has been attempting to promote for use in mobile devices. This is a significant win for National in a high-profile platform that is expected to ship in large volume. One of the key features of the iPhone is the touch screen, and iSuppli believes the supplier for the touch screen module in the model torn down by iSuppli was Balda of Germany in association with its partner TPK Holding of China. The module costs an estimated $27, representing 10.8 percent of the 8Gbyte model's cost. iSuppli believes the iPhone (LCD) display itself is supplied by multiple sources: Epson Imaging Devices Corp., Sharp Corp. and Toshiba Matsu****a Display Technology Co. Ltd. The cost of the LCD used in the iPhone is estimated at $24.50, representing 9.8 percent of the 8Gbyte version's costs. Perhaps the biggest winner among the component suppliers for the iPhone was Samsung. The South Korean electronics giant supplies the iPhone applications processor, which includes an ARM RISC core. The processor costs $14.25 in both versions of the iPhone. The company also contributed the NAND flash memory and DRAM for the iPhone. In the 4Gbyte version, Samsung has $24 worth of NAND flash, and $48 in the 8GByte version. For both versions, Samsung supplies 1Gbit of Double Data Rate SDRAM worth $14.00. Samsung has $76.25 worth of semiconductor content in the 8Gbyte version of the iPhone, giving the company a 30.5 percent share of the product's hardware cost?the largest total of any single supplier. Other companies scoring design wins in the iPhone include: Wolfson, which continues to maintain its design win for the audio codec a notable achievement given the obvious challenge to maintain design wins from generation to generation in the iPod family. CSR plc, which supplies the iPhone Bluetooth silicon costing $1.90. Marvell, which is contributing a Wi-Fi baseband chip costing $6.00. Sales of the iPhone have kicked off with a bang, and iSuppli believes that this strong performance will continue. Shipments of iPhones are expected to amount to 4.5 million units this year, and will expand by a factor of nearly seven to reach more than 30 million by 2011, according to Tina Teng, analyst, wireless communications, for iSuppli. Wow what a debut by Iphone Sheer Genius well thats what the company APPLE all abt They r gonna sell 45 lac iphones in just 1 year woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Long Live Apple

  21. Apple iPhone

Apple sold about 525,000 iPhones at Apple and AT&T Inc. stores in the first weekend since its June 29 launch, according to anaysts. The weekend stats are in and Apple has sold half a million iPhones in the first weekend. Selling 500,000 units of any product during its inaugural weekend launch is big. According to Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray, that's exactly what Apple's iPhone managed to pull off. After originally expecting Apple to sell "only" 200,000 iPhones on Friday and Saturday, he's now estimating that Apple sold a half-million iPhones from start of sales at 6pm on Friday until close of business on Sunday even with supply issues at AT&T store. According to their survey, 95% of buyers purchased the 8GB model with 50% of all buyers making the switch from another carrier to AT&T. Great news right? Maybe, but in a potentially worrying trend, Apple is showing a marked decrease in iPhone availability at their retail locations this morning. While stores showed a 100% iPhone availability (they don't break it down by 4GB and 8GB models) on Saturday which dropped to 84% on Sunday, Apple's retail channel is showing a further decline in availability for Monday across Apple's brick and mortar retail business. In particular, Californians not living in San Francisco will have a tough time locating the device with 34 of 36 stores bleeding red on Apple's retail locator site -- a potential supply problem especially if AT&T shops remain void of product. The iPhone, which combines a phone, Web browser and a music player, went on sale on Friday. Wow Apple sold more than 5 lac mobiles in just 2 days. Long live Apple what a marketing plan ... really its just amazing This mobile phone will be as popular as Motorazr
  22. Samsung Announces One Terabyte Hdd

Samsung Electronics has announced its one terabyte (TB) F1 series hard disk drive (HDD), which features the highest recording density in a 3.5-inch HDD using only three disks. The new Serial ATA 3.5-inch F1 series drives are designed to be a large capacity, low power and high performance solution for enterprise applications, personal video recorders, desktop PCs or external storage, said the company. Samsung's F1 drives employ proprietary technologies to achieve low power consumption and high performance. Quiet operation is ensured via Samsung's NoiseGuard and SilentSeek technologies, which reduce overall noise and vibration emanating from the drive, claimed the company, while optimized electronics and power saving modes reduce power consumption and resulting heat dissipation, making the F1 the coolest operating 1TB drive on the market. PMR recording with Samsung's Flying on Demand (FOD) head technology ensures improved recording stability over changing temperature ranges. Samsung's drive offers a higher predicted reliability versus competitive drives that require five disks to achieve similar capacities, noted the company. The F1 series drive features a 334GB per-platter capacity, a 7200-rpm spin speed, a 32MB cache, and up to a 1.2 million-hour MTBF. The F1 series offers high reliability for enterprise requirements and is optimized for RAID applications. It features a SATA 3Gb/s interface with NCQ and additional SATA features. The F1 series offers improved performance with SHOS based firmware, vibration tolerance with a rotational vibration sensor and lower power consumption with an optimized SOC. Samsung's SpinPoint F1 series is currently shipping with a US$399 MSRP.
