  1. Now I Love Iphone

Source - http://www.tech2.com/india/news/mobile-pho...-iphone/19931/0 Apple to Allow Outside Applications on iPhone Apple Inc Chief Executive Steve Jobs said on Wednesday that outside developers will be allowed to create programs for the iPhone, changing a policy that had angered many. Blocking outsiders from making programs that would run easily on the iPhone has been one of a series of restrictions that have annoyed users, even leading to some lawsuits. Jobs, in comments on Apple's Web site, said a kit for developers still will not be available until February, as the company works out how to open up the phone without exposing it to malicious programs. "We think a few months of patience now will be rewarded by many years of great third party applications running on safe and reliable iPhones," Jobs said on the Web site at http://www.apple.com/hotnews/. Developers have tried to open up the iPhone for use in the United States on networks beyond Apple's U.S. partner, AT&T Inc, though Apple has blocked many such moves. Spokeswoman Natalie Kerris said Apple has not changed its policy on locking the phone to other networks. But until now, Apple also had stopped software engineers from creating whatever they wanted to run on the iPhone, without delivering them through the iPhone's Web browser. Some 200 applications have been created for use on those terms, but consumers and software makers have seen that as an extra layer of rules and technology that was unnecessary and throttled innovation. Under the new policy, applications will be allowed to run in so-called native mode. Jobs said he expects malicious developers to focus on the iPhone. "Since the iPhone is the most advanced phone ever, it will be a highly visible target," he said. Apple could require a digital signature for programs to authenticate their developer, he added, referring to a system that he said mobile phone maker Nokia is implementing. While this makes such a phone less than "totally open, we believe it is a step in the right direction," Jobs said.

Orange recently confirmed that the iPhone is likely to be sold by it for 399 Euro, and the unlocked iPhone will be available too. The price of the unlocked iPhone has not been announced yet. Seeing the trend Apple is following, seems like its gonna be in India soon officially i.e. with the announcement of the Unlocked version available in France .. oops just read on the internet source - http://www.macworld.com/news/2007/10/17/un...phone/index.php Apple is being forced to sell an unlocked iPhone in France because of a French law that forbids bundling the sale of a mobile phone and a mobile operator.
  4. Source - http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n810_interne...et-news-339.php Nokia N810 internet tablet The long expected successor of Nokia N800 internet tablet - Nokia N810 made its first official appearance today. It was announced today by the Finnish company at the Web 2.0 Summit 2007 event in San Francisco, California. Nokia N810 is sporting the same sparkling touchscreen 4.13" display with 800 x 480 pixels resolution we saw in its predecessor. The most exiting upgrade over the former model is the added GPS receiver with preinstalled maps. According to the manufacturer it should be perfectly adequate for navigating your way around. The other great news is that Nokia N810 will have a full hardware QWERTY keyboard which will surely greatly facilitate text input. Unfortunately, the N810 retains the same VGA-only snapper we saw on N800 but this time it's front-mounted. The new internet tablet relies on Wi-Fi or a Bluetooth connection to a mobile phone to get internet access. Although it does allow its user to make internet calls as well as almost any other internet activity you can do from a personal computer it lack mobile phone functionality, meaning that you cannot carry out regular calls on it. This is the only reason we don't add Nokia's internet tablets to our specifications database, despite the abundance of request we receive in our mailbox. Nokia N810 comes complete with the adequate 2GB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 10GB through the memory card slot. The device will start shipping as soon as mid November at an estimated retail price of USD 479 (excluding local taxes).

  8. Source - http://www.telegraphindia.com/1071008/asp/...ory_8408565.asp Handsets to breach Rs 500 price barrier Calcutta, Oct. 7: Mobile handsets can’t get cheaper than this: come Diwali, a Calcutta-based company hopes to break the Rs 500 price barrier. Xenitis Telecom Ltd, owned by Bengali entrepreneur Shantanu Ghosh, plans to launch its basic GSM handset for Rs 499. Ghosh, who owns IT peripherals producer Xenitis Infotech and two-wheeler maker Global Automobile, is setting up a mobile handset factory at Hooghly in Bengal. At present, the cheapest GSM handset retails for Rs 1,200; Reliance Communications, the Anil Ambani-owned CDMA operator, offers handsets at Rs 777. Xenitis’ ultra low-priced handset will, however, be imported from China in a semi-knocked down (SKD) format and assembled here. Ghosh reckons it is possible to manufacture a very basic workable handset at such a low price. “Mobile handsets are available at $10-15 in Chinese and south Asian markets. We have brought samples here and are testing them now. So far, they are working well,” Ghosh told The Telegraph. Ghosh will sell the handsets under his Xtel brand name, but his company also aims to supply products to established players. “It is difficult to build a brand and fight big companies like Nokia. Instead, we want to be a contract manufacturer for local players,” he said. The Indian mobile handset market is projected to grow to 90 million units by the end of 2007. The Indian Cellular Association, the apex body for handset manufacturers, estimates that the country will manufacture 50 to 60 million handsets this year and the number can grow to 250 million units soon. Xenitis will be training its guns on the local brands of tiny players who import cheap handsets from China. “We will start with SKD kits but will graduate to basic manufacturing in the next one to two years,” Ghosh said. Initially, it plans to produce 2 lakh handsets a month. Ghosh claimed that a number of GSM mobile operators had evinced interest in sourcing handsets from his company. “Mobile telephony operators are going deep into rural India with bundled offers of connection and handsets. The only way to penetrate those regions is by ensuring affordability,” he said. The company expects to tot up a turnover of Rs 150-200 crore from the telecom business this year itself. The unit is coming up next to Xenitis Infotech’s factory in Hooghly. In April, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Singapore-based Longcheer Technology to design and manufacture mobile handsets.
  9. Iphone @ Rs. 25,000/- In Mumbai

Source - http://www.techtree.com/India/News/iPhones...-83821-617.html iPhones Available, Open to Crack Madhavi Gokhlay reporting - Raza Noorani (20) and Nigel Jairaj (22); main occupation: B.Com students; side occupation: unlocking Apple iPhones (till recently, it was cracking PSPs)... Apple Computer may delude itself that the India launch of its iconic iPhone is slated for not before next year, but iPhones are proliferating ever since the gizmo's US launch about a month and a half back. Both Noorani and Jairaj are ready to swear by this! Today, you can get an iPhone for around Rs 31,000 from 'Alpha Electronics'; for about Rs 27,000 from 'Heera Panna'; for somewhere between Rs 27,000 and Rs 30,000 from any custom-notified shop. A month and a half back, the prices per iPhone were in the region of Rs 45,000 to Rs 50,000. The gray market has its own sources for sourcing these iPhones; the usual suspects being contacts in customs, or carriers who come to India loaded with iPhones, or simply people who travel to- and fro- between India and the US. "You've paid for the iPhone. The tie-up is between Apple and AT&T. It's their problem entirely. So there's no big deal about using iPhones in India, way before their official launch," quip Noorani and Jairaj. The duo use a Windows-based software for unlocking iPhones. Originally into cracking PSPs, their iPhone foray began with a night well spent fiddling with a friend's iPhone. The morning saw the iPhone unlocked, much to their delight. That's how they got hooked onto the idea. Subsequently, they bought an iPhone SIM free unlocking software online for nearly GBP 70, and have been cracking iPhones since -- for a price! Customers based out of Mumbai are charged Rs 2,000, while those based out of Mumbai (even out of India) are charged Rs 2,500 per unlocking. In case of the latter, CDs containing software are sent to these customers, after which Noorani and Jairaj instruct them over the phone as to unlocking of their iPhones. Otherwise, the process takes place pretty much from the comfort of Noorani- and Jairaj's homes. All they need is the iPhone that is to be unlocked, the accompanying USB cable, and a computer with Windows XP Service Pack 2. No need for an Internet connection. Within a span of 15 to 20 minutes, a single iPhone gets unlocked. However, each iPhone is different by virtue of the fact that it's been manufactured under a different batch. To that extent, the unlocking process differs from phone to phone. All said, Noorani and Jairaj are not alone in this venture. Some of the shops in Heera Panna, and a handful of individuals in this city claim to be able to unlock iPhones. However, doing a good job is an entirely different story. Every now and then, the youngsters get customers coming to them, who've bought 'unlocked' phones from somewhere for a hefty price, and whose phones are now no longer working properly. It's up to the twosome to fix these iPhones. They say they charge about Rs 500 for fixing such iPhones, simply because they don't want to fleece customers who've already been fleeced more or less. Besides, they've undergone a similar experience. They recall a gruelling week spent working for a shop in Heera Panna, within which time, they would've unlocked at least 30 iPhones a day. But, were paid just Rs 1,000 per unlocking, while the shop charged its customers up to Rs 4,000 only in unlocking charges per iPhone. Going-it-alone, are they making much moolah? They won't tell but looks like it's enough to keep them going!

  20. Now I Love Iphone

Source - http://www.tech2.com/india/news/mobile-pho...-mumbai/18911/0 iPhone Prices Nose-dive in Mumbai The Apple iPhone was officially launched in the United States of America on June 29, 2007 and commanded a price of $599 (Rs. 23,621) for the 8GB version. By September 5, 2007 Apple had slashed the price of its 8GB model to $399 (Rs. 15,733) and dropped the 4GB version from its line-up. Back home, dealers from Mumbai's Heera Panna market say that the iPhone will be officially launched in India in March or April 2008 but then again a not-so-little birdie told us that the iPhone will come to India in the end of 2008. But a trip to Heera Panna, saw iPhones peering out of the windows of almost every electronics shop. A month back, the cost of the iPhone was a whopping Rs. 52,000. Today, iPhone fans can rejoice as the price of the iPhone in the grey market has dropped to a mere Rs. 27,000 for the 8GB model. The 4 GB version is available for Rs. 24,000. “We have only a few pieces of the 4GB model as people don’t mind shelling out Rs. 4,000 extra for the 8GB model. Moreover, the 4 GB version has been dropped from its line-up,” says Vikram of Sound Out, Heera Panna. Another shopkeeper added that the stock they ordered a few days ago – 10 8GB models and four 4GB models just sold out and he was awaiting the next order. The volume of phones being sold is rising. Every shopkeeper has claimed to have sold more than 50 iPhones in the last two-three weeks. “We are going to order for more iPhones as we expect the sales to increase during Diwali,” says one shopkeeper. The shopkeepers also unlock the phone for no extra charge. The slash in iPhone prices have surely brought good news to iPhone fans who can now make their dream of owning one a reality.
  21. 3g Testing To Be Done End May

Rollout plans for 3G go awry Source - http://www.telegraphindia.com/1071008/asp/...ory_8408564.asp New Delhi, Oct. 7: The delay in 2G spectrum allocation has put brakes on the launch of 3G services in the country. 3G is third-generation mobile technology that allows for quicker downloads of music and video files. The auction of 3G licences, as recommended by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), would have fetched the government at least Rs 1,400 crore from an operator. Trai had submitted its recommendations on the allocation and pricing of 3G spectrum on September 27, 2006. However, there has hardly been any progress. Already the government has missed the July deadline for the 3G spectrum policy “The recent scramble for telecom licences has shifted the telecom department’s focus to providing a solution for 2G spectrum,” said an official of the Cellular Operators Association of India. Besides, the group of ministers, set up for spectrum vacation from defence services, has said the “spectrum for the growth of existing 2G services is more important than planned 3G services”. The defence authorities and the department of telecom (DoT) are looking to vacate around 25MHz of 2G spectrum as well as around 15MHz of 3G spectrum. Officials said, “While the DoT is planning to formulate a 2G policy by the end of October, the sharp differences between the GSM and CDMA players over the contentious issue of spectrum allocation and the methodology to be adopted will delay the process.” The officials said even if the DoT reached a decision on 3G spectrum, it won’t be possible to launch the service before one-and-a-half years. “The bidding process will take many months. This, when it is now clearly understood that the broadband revolution will have to be wireless-based,” the officials said. “At the current pace, we do not see 3G happening before the end of 2008,” they added. Moreover, there are differences within the DoT over the rollout of 3G. “Even though the DoT has no intention of putting it on the backburner, a section of the government is pushing for a freeze on 3G rollout,” the officials said. However, some DoT officials feel a broadband wireless network capable of carrying voice and data at reasonable rates will help create an infrastructure for the national information revolution.
