Has RIM Started Accepting Non Reliance Handset
darth_vader replied to reply2manish's topic in Technical / OS related
Err.. let me add some fuel to this speculative fire... Short Answer ... Yes... Long answer ... Diff.. U need cables, bin files and the network info also.. But then your phone ESN/IME HAS to be entered in the network DB for the HLR to recognise the device .. But I am sure more certain that any more techie stuff would come under the purview of illegality... FYI, Some junta at Reliance still using TREO650 made for Sprint! Go Play! -
anyone got a crack for the ARM dev suite ver 2 ???
-
Have you tried connecting the same through a telnet session on non-vsnl ISP line like Satyam/Cable walla... ?
-
I think forget the installerss... Just set up a 56k modem config on COM1 and it should work without a sweat.. LG handsets use emulated com port irrespective of a serial/USB cable while SAMSUNG handsets directly use the USB mode.. That is the reason samsung handsets can give great bandwidths.. newer lg handsets are also headed in this direction as well. dv

Great Work Ashok!! I have been searching for the QPST for a long time.. the newer versions require a hardware lock I believe... Look forward to your addon to this post

Sachin, RMS-001 does exist... The Other Account only supports std POP3/IMAP4 ports... So 995,465 will not connect. Check this link for the answer to Gmail avail on webmail http://www.rimweb.in/forums/index.php?showtopic=3236&st=45 dv

Webmail enhanced version is back in R-World !
darth_vader replied to anujit's topic in Data services
Here is what I do... Since search feature is enabled on IMAP and not present on POP3, I have a copy of all my mails forwarded to a dummy account on Spymac.. Spymac btw gives 1 Gb as well and also IMAP4, although it may be a lil slow.. You can use your IMAP instead... Also, Googles implementation of POP3 is far from the std POP3 defined in the RFC.. -

A smart cookie in the implementation team tells me that it has to do with the pop service at Gmail... Apparently, if you connect via telnet to gmail on the pop3 service, and you read a mail in that session and logout, you see interesting things the next time you login. The next time you login to the pop3 service via telnet, you won see the mail in the listing... Amazing isnt it?? Apparently, interactions with google team yeilded some stubborn denial and answers.. They seemed to sport a "if you want you fix it at your end and we dont own for this problem" attitude. Gmail expects the email client to have cookies and caching. So once the email client has accessed the gmail acc and seen a email, it is cached on the client and not accessible on the server. this however, in not standard POP3 behaviour. Hence, webmail is not likely to show gmail anytime soon as users will complain of emails not displaying on handset but available via the website.. the fix is yet to be in place... -

First of all, I enjoy using WebMail too. Gmail, rediffmail and vsnl works fine for me. I met a key person assosiated with the WebMail project and ran through him some of the probs that were mentioned here and here is what he had to say... "...... Gmail was down in the first two weeks of Feb due to connectivity issues. VSNL is absolutely fine. he has also heard from other folks about the vsnl.net issue. Does anyone can provide a vsnl.net POP/IMAP server they use? Satyam and Rediffmail have been problem free. Indiatimes will be back up shortly. Connectivity glitches.. Yahoo and Hotmail may be coming in some time as well. Fastmail ... Dont know how many people use it. Can set it among defaults if sizeable number exists. Let us know if you would like some other popular mail servers... Also, appreciate if you could do some survey as to which features users like, problems faced and things that they do not like. Note: The service is very stable now and users should not see many app related problems. Of course, there are device/filesystem/connectivity problems which vary from handset to handset. Yes. It is true. Like all lunches this service will get priced very soon. You will be surprised how many people actually use this service. Let me say, this number is huge ?? million hits/week does require signigicant investments alone for this service. .... " So guys, send in your two cents worth on 1. the features you like 2. Features you would like to see 3. Problems faced 4. Exchanges with Call center. -
Dunno if this is the correct place.. but it had general overtones for all camera enabled phones.. Let us share stuff on tips to take good pics using the phone and ways to send them efficiently. Different phones have diff capabilities and maybe we can share what worked for you. Here is a set of my experiences with the LG 6130 of late.. 1. Pics in yelllow bulb light are not great unless they are really bright on the subject area. If light source is resonably away, you get a lot of noise. 2. In built Flash ... Hmm I wld rather not use it.. pics came out awful.. only one side lit up like diwali.. 3. Bright daylight is great for pics.. 4. Sunshine directly on subject makes the subject appear bleached 5. Diffused sunlight that is .. on the outside under bright shady area .. works the best.. 6. Point the centre of the pic in a dark spot and pics will get brightened up.. I think automatically. I usually have the lighting at -2 and take pics in daylight mostly.

farce! other operators do support mms, and that is a REAL mms, where u can snd msgs to other operators and all webmails via internet(wap) . but rim snds mms only to r-world enabled handsets. it's not any kind of internet, but it's an intranet! 26095[/snapback] That is partially correct. Its true that presently you can send MMS to RIM subscribers only. But you can send MMS to and from email address!! Secondly, you cant send MMS to GSM network because of interconnect agreements are not in place. Could it be that GSM guys just cant handle the load ? Absolutely !! Thirdly, somebody remarked it as true MMS.. Hmmm Guy is talking off his hat I guess... MMS is just a format of message and is not specified by carriers. Carriers merely buy the software to enable them. So dont go believing every crap you read. A1. Bitpim should help but dunno which device make will help. Check in tech forum section for device mapping for 2230/7150 A2: QPST.. Hmm unlikely.. if u r not in techie/hacking type, suggest that u run the prob with the service center. Debug versions exist but unlikely to be found in public domain. A3: read A1 Actually, as basant said, some rnd is required... my eperiences listed below 1. I usually have the lighting at -2 and take pics in daylight mostly. will post some pics soon of my daughter and niece..

6130 connectors are the same as 5130 and the 7150. 2030 connectors are diff.. the cables are avail on baxee for abt 300 bucks + deliv charges

It is possible as the end points(point 1 and point 4 ) on a usb connector are power lines for 3.3 and 5.5 volts.. if you can somehow figure out which points on the cell phone connector are the power lines, you have got it done.. It is tricky if u r not in that biz but possible.... All the best

You guys are jumping all overwithout addressing the prob.. 1. 6130 has native client but the mms storage is on the same server irrespective from which handset it is accessed. 2. It is just like mail access... 3. you can send email with attachments from anywhere not just local smtp servers, to 91xxxxxxxxx@mms.ricmail.com and it wil be delivered to ur mms storage on the server. 4. Notification is dependent on the handset and invokes native/Rworld MMS client Hope this puts all the posts to rest.

Hi guys, Just wondering if you have checked out the new webmail..... esp the autoscrolling in messages and changes in UI.... looks coolll.....
-
saurav, did ask them abt the GTRAN and they said that Almost all handsets ( except samsung slim, kyocera) are tested for webmail... Should work...
-
Updates:: Yep, you guys are right.... Webmail is the earlier version and it is having quite a few problems... And yes.. Gmail and Spymac are also coming on Webmail.... Hang in there... I know some folks responsible for this app and they have asked me to wait for a few more days ( approx 15-20) for the spanking new version which will be more faster, reliable as well as with better features... Better formatting, auto-scroll for the thumb-sores.. and more.. I also came to know that the earlier version was reverted due to some technical snags... So keep watching the space... Also, don't read too much into the CC responses.. they are not app intelligent and possibly can't know all the apps in and out.. Mail apps are complex and intelli tech supp will be in a while..
