Please Recommend A Good Handset - High Budget
ashoksoft replied to glovalize's topic in Other handsets
I would still go with anirudh's idea. Reliance - buy a cheap handset just for Voice calls / SMS. For GRPS usage I would recommend you to spend about 21k and pick up a HTC 3300 and an airtel prepaid plan (preferably lifetime incoming + 555 top up) activate Mobile office for unlimited internet browsing at 14.99 / day.. You can run a lot of messengers like agile messenger where you can be logged in to Y!, MSN, Gtalk, and other jabber / ICQ networks. You can use pocket IRC for IRC chatting . Outlook can be configured to fetch all emails every 5 mins or so - and new mails are shown as popups on the screen. I use google maps + GPS whenever I'm travelling throughout Mah ... and I do that quite a lot .. was in Pune just yesterday for a bikers meet. cheers karki -
Help Me For Skype On Mobile
ashoksoft replied to keanu_reeves's topic in General Technical Discussion
Personally I've used Voip services / Skype from PPC6700 (CDMA) as well as (GSM) HTC P3300 on both - the voice clarity and performance has been exceptional ... no qualms on them. cheers karki* -
Could not install anything till date

The phone I'm using is exactly the same - the pic of which was posted by another member a few days back. The phone has been really stable - but lacks quite a few power packs ... You cannot sync via bluetooth or any of the chineese softwares I could find. Does not have a mark all and send option so if I plan to send 25 files to a friend .. I do that manually. Cannot Accept Vcards via bluetooth from a Pocket PC (works fine from a Nokia) But one thing that stuns me is the battery life - it just rocks !!! cheers karki

being honest ... I've tried to use various handsets ... N95 sure rocks ... but I just sold it yesterday .. took a HTC P3300 .. awsome GPS. Getting back to the question ... opt in for a SE handset if Music is the concern ... somehow ... SE algorithms match with the best when it comes to decoding music .. and well .. the logic of the handset design is better ... for eg. when u remove a wired headset from a Sony handset while listening to music - it will confirm from u if the music is to be routed to the loudspeaker or not ... it does not just blare the music out loud that is one of the concerns nokia has been consistently missing out on ... other additional options like control of bass (proper) is something which SE leads by a HUGE margin ! cheers karki

@Sadik nopes ... Daxian is Chineese .. Kinpo and all are taiwaneese . @Piyush naa mate .. I got it from the Reliance Web World near Toyota Showroom in Malad - Mumbai. Priced at 14 k there. The owner is a friend of mine hence got the sample he got. @situ The onboard memory is just 1 MB but for the phone application it is more than enuf. it is a PDA but not MS based

True ... kshah ... I got a Yulong and an anycool handset to test as well ... nice handsets ... but well would love a little bit more support .. have clicked the pix ... will upload them at night ! and yes saurav : you can place a call on hold and handle another call from say GSM or CDMA .. The best feature I found in the phone is the ablity to super conference ... I call a friend on Reliance ... he calls up another person, and puts me on conference... at this time If i get a call on my GSM number and choose to conference the call ... I have four people on conference - and if the caller who called me on my GSM number conferences the call with someone else ... I have a five member conference call !!!! not quite useful for most ... but i had to arrange a meeting for a proposed Rapid Action Emergency Force a few of my friends are planning to set up ... and we were going nuts conferencing the calls ... and well things sounded darn good.. Let me add - the loud speaker also rocks

Will upload pix today ... the phone is exactly the one posted above ... have been using it for the last couple of days ... Really well made phones with quite a number of pros and a few cons.. The handset I got is unbranded - in the meaning that it is a prototype - hence nowhere is the brand name specified I found out that it was a Daxian after opening the body and looking at a green sticker on the PCB Pros : * The phone battery ROCKS !!! a full day on the last band of battery .... never heard / seen it before. * The screen size is large and quite ideal for viewing videos * Sound Quality rocks. * The phone charger comes with the ability to charge an extra battery - and has a USB output slot ... ideally ensuring that you can use the charger as a charger for all USB devices * Phone software really sturdy .. not a single crash from the time I got it. * GSM and CDMA connected simultaneously .. and call switching is possible. * A2DP profiling and bluetooth sync modes - including contact sync is possible.. - ONE BY ONE - thro vcard send. * Default input modes can be configured as per requirements and so can start and shutdown screens ans sounds. * extensive and well made contact book and Call registers with unparalled features ... will have a few screenshots .. * The phone has a dedicated Bluetooth key !!!! * The touch screen and handwriting recognition sure is good .. CONS : * The headphones provided with the phone s**ks. * The charger slot and the headphone slot are the same - and it is non standard so if a charger / headphone goes kaboom ... you better start looking for another one. * No Keypad backlight - highly disadvantageous if you are not aware where each key is ... well I've passed this stage. * No flash for camera - and camera sadly disappointing for a 3MP claimed ... the pix appear more like a interpolated VGA cam ... but from the alogrithm used for image compression - I think this can be rectified by a firmware upgrade - as the sensor is good ... its just the way the info is getting stored. * Support for external applications claimed - but I could not honestly get to install apps yet .. trying to figure out a way. * USB cable provided - but no drivers ... I've got some drivers as well as a PC Sync tool ... but the tool connects only via Serial port ... so Sync not yet sucessful .. though I've gotten over that thro Bluetooth syncing. * voice quality over CDMA seems a little weak - maybe only on my phone - coz the second prototype my friend has does not seem to have this concern. * CDMA network takes longer to turn on and turn off . * SMS gets stored in the SIM Cards only - the phone memory where 200 sms can wait ... somehow does not seem interested in taking a few sms's. more will be added shortly !

Vodafone Launch Handset At 1199/-
ashoksoft replied to copperco2's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
666 and 555 are magic cards for voda ... they've tried the same antics in markets elsewhere ... still the market in india is quite different from international markets - previously handled by voda ... so in reality .. its still a wait and watch -

Handsets To Breach Rs 500 Price Barrier
ashoksoft replied to coolrajiv's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Very true greens ... but to an extent ... i see that many of these handsets actually last their life - two to three years ... some of the handsets that I had got from China long ago and in the price bracket of INR 1200 - 1500 are still functional without any major hiccups ... lets see what comes out of the bengali babu's stable ... hmm sadik ... I guess things are getting interesting there .. a 999 nokia handset ... hmm ... 8 USD at 40 INR works to 320 INR + 250 Battery + 200 Body ... so thats about 770 INR and well on a sale value of 999 you still have a good margin ... sounds nice re. and phew ... I guess this is the first post where 3 mods have posted one after the other .. hehe cheers karki -
Guess I'll post the pix today ... the handset model though is not printed anywhere on the sample piece I got .. I managed to figure out that it is a Daxian X768 . Have got the handset with me .. and though the claims state it is a korean handset - the make - model and feel suggest a chineese presence.

I seriously believe that things sure are going down the drain ... I had an awsome day ... so did many of my friends who decided to turn up .... but all of a sudden ... I'm getting the feeling that rimweb has let me down ... not one person turned up ... most of the people who promised - were either completely untrackable or bluntly not answering their phones - while I like a fool was trying to call most of 'em. and miraculously after 7 PM a lot of them became contactable ! I had managed to organize and collect a load of blankets, chaddars, clothes for kids, adults, shoes, socks, water bottles, shuttle rackets, rice and pulses, 40 litres tetra pack milk, basmati rice sacks and pulses ... we got a sumo to take the stuff to the venue as well ... thanks to my boss Mr. Hormazd Sidhwa - a team ops manager in 3, who managed to get the vehicle without any hitches ... once at the venue ... all of us were lost with the kids ... many of them had grown up compared to the way they were the last time ... (Sayan das - my closest pal) (Hormazd) (Hormazd's wife) (Sai from HR @ 3) (Belinda - the bubbly gal) (wondering about wadala) Do I need to write anything more ?? Whoever did not come - well pals .. you really missed it and if someone really did not have a few hours to give back to the society - either we need to mend our life style a little ... well cut it ... i might get a lil philosophical now ... cheers karki

The location has already been decided - asha daan in Byculla ... the reason for this is coz it is amongst the few care homes / shelters where the donations actually reach the inmates without any discrepencies ... do try to make it there ... do let me know if any assistance is needed so we can get down to work together
