The only way a reduction as high as this is possible would be introduction of a free spectrum 3G (akin to UK), where the teleco pays on the open licence once for unltd DATA TRANSFER. Allowing VoIP based communication and then terminating the interconnect agreement. As of today all operators are paying a high price for interconnect (as high as 22ps in cases / minute). This impacts large players to an extent since a major chunk from the customers call charges is given to the receipient network. Terminate the rate is a lobby started by 3, a leading mobile operator in the UK - a similar revelution in india - can bring Raja's statements true. The only advantage of postpaid is that the operator knows that the customer is gonna be around the next month too ... and taht there's a fixed commitment promised each month. btw ganeshan : why dont you show the existing airtel connections you have - as proof that they are very well able to service your area.

@sarvamesh : an operator normally earns on an incoming calll... when a call originates from say operator "A" and terminates on operator "b", A pays B for terminating the call on the recipient network. This charge is termed as termination charge. The network "A" will charge its end customer an amount "x" which will be a total of : termination charge paid + tax + infra. cost + VAT cheers karki
