or best option ... select COM port emulation as COM-1 (if windows 2000 + ) and then try to send AT+GMM thro hyperterminal. If it returns the model number ... then the cable is fine.. Cheers Ashok PS : u can also try using bitpim to see if it reads the file system. restarting the mob. at times helps. so does removing lock code. AT+CDV 00000000 should dial a call to 00000000 if the mob is working perfect.

Very well put city.... and yes I have seen a GSM+CDMA handset (my dad got one from china, on his last visit... and the quality of reception really s**ks, it was from some CBird company, on GSM.) I tried to port in the values of NAM / SID including the ESN to try to run on CDMA network but no idea how to .. it never really worked (and most of the programming menus are in chineese... which is bonkers for me...) Now that we have had a long discussion about the speeds ... why dont each of us actually run a common benchmark (like bandwidthmeter or some common utility and post the print screens here on each connection that u use ? so we can actually have a real comparision. (I am sure pics speak more than words.) and well I have tried connection on BSNL, VSNL, MTNL, R-Connect and Airtel GPRS, other than my current cable operator (local operator). and other than my cable connection ... the only thing that offered a decent speed was R-Connect (and sometimes MTNL). Mobility ? who offers that ? airtel ? hmmm btw ramchi.. do u remember the song that u wanted us to try out ? well that was a pretty weak benchmark, coz u are trying to play streaming audio (and in this case the streaming was not thro asx / http(m/s) streams but thro data stream on http. so the playback is highly dependent on ur machine config (pre-processing), connection speed, and a lot many other factors. BTW ... I got a friend from pune to check up the speed on Airtel GPRS, and I tried R-Connect speeds (from my college... ) and well i can assure u that anyday R-Connect is giving better speeds.... and if u travel a lot ... come over to mumbai and gimme a call .. I guess I can invite u over to my college to a cup of coffee and show u almost all the different connections u want to test. (including a ernet 10 MBPS dedicated line). Now everyone will be happy if reliance reduces its pricing ... but surely not compromising on its reliablity and standards. so the only (really feasible )alternative could be a different tarrif for FWP users, coz they do not actually get the mobility they are being charged for. I believe that ... whatever ur opinions are ... somehow they do not exactly match some of our opinions. ... well when u have One-India, don't u think... it is better off having a local call from Kanyakumari to Kashmir ? (who knows there could be a girlfriend of someone from kanyakumari in kashmir) Another thing, neither am i a shareholder in rim ... I am still a college student ... and with that lemme tell u ... can any (choice is urs... ) service provider gimme the voice clarity offered on RIM network ? how many other operators have this huge a fan following that they have a discussion forum ? which operators were functional when there was a case of emergency (Eg. the floods we had here on 26th jul. in mumbai)? well dude ... each one has a different perception ... and believe me ... if u do not wish to enrich ambani's pocket ... dont ! who is forcing u ... but there are a lot more people who are definetly gonna pay into his pocket! BTW ... considering we are in india ... things dont generally pass on so fast ... we will have a long wait to see... what is the real outcome. Another thing ... yes! what anujit has said is true, about call charges in US. now that is something to be considered.... on a 440 voucher u are getting unlimited calls to Rim in ur circle (and for a lot of us ... who have numbers from Metro cities... the circle is the whole state.)
