Torch is not CDMA. Checked in the Bb website, it only supports GSM. But soon we gonna see 9850 or some other number model which will be having CDMA capabilities. -
Updated: RIM Launches Blackberry Style CDMA Smartphone 9670 in India
abhi.r replied to ::Hitesh::'s topic in BlackBerry
^^ agreed with Greatest bhai no doubt specs are kool (OS 6.0, track pad, wifi, more memory ROM/RAM, 5MP camera with flash, 3.5mm audio jack) Camera is the biggest boost one can see in BB phones. but the shape and flapper structure is not that appealing -
Happy Indepenednce Day to you all!

BlackBerry, Skype, Gmail and now 3G come under the scanner of Indian Government
abhi.r replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
I think govt will stop only BB messenger. Voice/sms/E-mails will be continued as I read somewhere that RIM had the solution for mails but not messenger. -
I applied to Airtel for ugarding to Wireless Router. the Airtel representative came to my place and said that he Airtel now has new system of authentication called CAS (Central Authentication Security blah blah... the airtel guy didnt knew much about it, and seemed nervous while configuring it). I asked him whether I can connect my mobile phone with the new wifi router or not .. he said no its not Possible because the authentication process would be like a dialup process which will not be possible in mobile phones. So I asked him to install it with lod methods where no such CAS is required. He said that it is not possible, and even I spoke to his superior and he said that without CAS they cannot install wireless modem as this is strict instructions from TRAI and every service provider has to follow it. He also added that other service provider has to follow the same method, and soon they are going to stop internet access to people who are using private wireless router or their own routher who login thru old method, until they upgrade to new CAS system. I said that if old method is not possible then I dont want your connection anymore nd wrote an application to them asking them to disconnect my phone and threaten them to move to other service provider. Finally the Airtel guy said that he cannot install wireless modem without CAS system. He got strict instruction from superiors. Does anyone of you faced the same problem with other service providers? I really do not want any kind of dialup icon which i have to click to start internet on my laptop everytime i boot.

Write a mail to reliance customer care, blackberry authorised sercice center threatening them to go to consumer cell if they are not going to act soon, and see the magic they will get a new blackberry from the store and replace your BB damaged part... this is what they did with my official ppc6700 when it was in warranty. They took more than 6 months, and the handset was lying in their service center @ green park in delhi. Wrote an e-mail, received phone calls from Reliance Mumbai and then they got a new phone set from nearest dealer in delhi and replaced the damaged part. they also put lot of scratch as well so I asked them to change the body or replace my phone and wrote another e-mail asking that I want my handset back having the same condition when i gave it to them (hehehe) and they changed it as well. "remember consumer cell is your best friend"

abhi.r replied to vikasmahajanz's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
^^^ @ sougata Dear you are absolutely WRONG! if you live in Jaipur and if you can pay Rs.84000 per month. You dont have to wait for future to get 100MBPS connection.. rather you can get it today from BSNL And also get some friends of yours to avail the same service FTTH so that the AVERAGE broadband speed(of which you are talking about) of india will increase. and the name of India will also be shown on the top 10 charts Mano ya naa mano its possible now- 18 replies

This is micromax and not nokia or samsung. I think big companies like nokia/samsung and others throw out few handsets to their employees to use it and report feedback about it every day, so that they can improve the phone every day untill it is fit for launch in the market. But companies selling chinise rebranded phones just want to launch the product first in the market. Dosent matter whether this phone have any design or technical fault... they just want to launch and come up with another new model in few months time. so they are little less reliable.

BSNL Launches Fibre2Home (FTTH)
abhi.r replied to vikasmahajanz's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
Yes its coslty for now. but in future it wont be. Every new technology is expensive, even the 1st CD Writter made in MIT which run @ 1X spped and took 72mins to write one Disk.. and it cost more than Rs. 100,000. Just trying to make a point that soon we are going to see 20Mbps of broadband speed for home use affordable prices like people in US and UK and otehr parts of europe gets.- 18 replies

BSNL Launches Fibre2Home (FTTH)
abhi.r replied to vikasmahajanz's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
BSNL has recently launched FTTH services in India. Jaipur is the first city which has the chance to taste the new technology. FTTH means Fiber To The Home. The FTTH services are being launched over Overlay Access Network (OAN) rolled out by BSNL in major cities. Since the bandwidth availability at the customer’s end in FTTH will be huge, many high bandwidth services can be launched. 1.2 The technologies behind FTTH network are GPON and GE-PON. In GPON, subscriber end termination is on ONT (Optical Network Termination) unit. These ONT are having 4 Ethernet ports and 2 POTs (RJ11 ports). There is another category of ONTs which can support video overlay services (Analog TV) without Set Top Box along with above ports. 1.3 Many Next Generation Play services such as Voice (POTS as well as VoIP), High Speed Internet, IPTV, Cable TV (Analog), Video on Demand, Gaming, Layer 2 and 3 VPN, etc, can be provided on the FTTH-GPON, however, initially FTTH is being launched with the Broadband Internet Service, tariff for which is given last of BROADBAND TARIFF page 2.1 Since FTTH network can support higher bandwidth, many high speed Broadband plans are being offered to the customers on FTTH so as to give them a better experience and a differentiated product. Further, the rollout of FTTH will be in both residential as well as in commercial areas and hence the product is both for home as well as for business users. The telecommunications industry differentiates between several distinct configurations. The terms in most widespread use today are: * FTTN – Fiber-to-the-node – fiber is terminated in a street cabinet up to several kilometers away from the customer premises, with the final connection being copper. * FTTC – Fiber-to-the-cabinet or fiber-to-the-curb – this is very similar to FTTN, but the street cabinet is closer to the user’s premises; typically within 300m. * FTTB – Fiber-to-the-building or Fiber-to-the-basement – fiber reaches the boundary of the building, such as the basement in a multi-dwelling unit, with the final connection to the individual living space being made via alternative means. * FTTH – Fiber-to-the-home – fiber reaches the boundary of the living space, such as a box on the outside wall of a home. * FTTP – Fiber-to-the premises – this term is used in several contexts: as a blanket term for both FTTH and FTTB, or where the fiber network includes both homes and small businesses. Diagram in the left can explained the concept. Fiber is often said to be ‘future proof’ because the speed of the broadband connection is usually limited by the terminal equipment rather than the fiber itself, permitting at least some speed improvements by equipment upgrades before the fiber itself must be upgraded. However there is a caveat,It is expensive to get good returns, and if the optical cable are damaged(as regularly happened now by the rival ISP) or any other case, then it cannpot be replaced.. At present BSNL is giving FTTH connection within the 1 K>M radius of its Telephone Exchange, to the Business houses which need connections to their system not less than 50 or the members of Apartment which has more than 50 units with them. For more information check this link: http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/bb_ftth.htm Hope to see new revolution in Broadband technology in India soon.- 18 replies

^^ Noob question... What is this www.mobile-files.com all about?
-
Yes exactly this is what the airtel guys were talking about. The only problem I have is dialer to connect the internet every time i shutdown my pc and start it, i have to use dialer to gain access to internet
-
Oh yes, the Airtel guy said that authentication shall be done on a central server which is with airtel, so there will be a diler kind of thingi on laptops. dont have a screen shot as I didnt installed it anyways.

People thought the same when the very first Blackberry was launched(emails @ the speed of SMSs, well no body thought of it, later corporates worndered how they lived without it), and may be when the first iPhone was launched(it made consumers to ask LOT more from a mobile phone). Or when Google Android was launched(dont know much about it, but im sure it ought to be awesome as because so many of you guys like it). Take commercialization of mobile phone devices people use, once it changed people's life, then RCDMA who fulfill every common man's dream to own a mobile phone. Now even if you want a rickshaw wala at your door steps its just a phone call away. Now a days even a chinise phones have motion censor, face book, twitter apps and many more. Who would have thought about it 2-3 years ago when chinise mobile phones entered the market. So theres always a scope of making things better and better. Who know maybe tomorrow some thing new come up which replaces Android or blackberry or iphone. And whatever it would be, its will definately make people's life simpler.

Totally agreed with Kshah There is no Ultimate Solution to a problem. Else there would have been no innovations.
-
Do you think I should threaten them for disconnect my connection? I told them that if normal Wlan is not possible then I simply have to discontinue your connection, but they say that they absolutely cant do any thing about it, as its orders from TRAI. I am comfortable with CAS or whatever its called. but the issue is with a dialer which i have to dial to access internet every time I log. Aritel if you are listening: come on guys. this is 2010. we do not want any more dialups.

No doubt BB is THE BEST option for mobile e-mails. I rather buying expensive CDMA handsets from reliance or TATA and go for BIS service... one should go for GSM where latest models are available at decent prices. for example.. BB Curve 8520 + airtel/vodafone prepaid where one can get latest handset @ decent price with cheaper BIS service. BB Curve 8520(GSM) will cost around 13k-14k where as CDMA Operators sell crappy BB handsets at this price.

agreed 100% with Dhiraj Bhai. If your fren is worried about Govt. banning blackberry services then tell your friend that Govt. not going to block Mails and Voice calls. its only the Blackberry Messenger which they will block if Research in Motion(BB manufacturer) does not comes with a govt. desired solution.
