Android tablets near 50% market penetration in U.S. A new report out of research organization Pew Internet & American Life Project tells us that Android tablets have risen to 48 percent of U.S. market share. Moving from 15 percent over the same period just one year ago, it shows that Android is finally getting serious traction in the tablet space. That’s a lot of Xyboards and Jetstreams, right? Not exactly. That has lessened Apple’s dominance in the market. Now, just over half, 52%, of tablet owners report owning an iPad, compared with 81% in the survey a year ago. Android-based devices make up the bulk of the remaining tablet ownership, 48% overall, dominated largely by the Kindle Fire. It’s worth pointing out that the Pew report does not factor in the Kindle Fire HD or the Nexus 7. Taking out the Amazon tablet, Android would hold around 27 percent market share. On the other hand, we understand that the Nexus 7 was not included in the research. Perhaps Android is doing even better in just the few months since data was collected? Things could get really interesting with the Kindle Fire family and new NOOK HD stuff coming this fourth quarter. Factor in the rumors of an iPad Mini, though, and the balance could tip in the opposite direction. http://www.androidguys.com/2012/10/02/pew-android-tablets-near-50-market-penetration-in-u-s/ Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

[Android] Using NFC for daily activities
phonegeek replied to phonegeek's topic in General Technical Discussion
As earlier I told, Tasker is amazing application but with NFC, you know what is going to run and is more convenient. I know where I pasted the tags, so its a non issue that it has limited range. In Tasker, you have to run the app, see which profile you have to run and then only the tasks gets executed. Further, profiles related to location is like hit/miss. If you enable GPS, it drains the battery and also it doesnt work inside building. And if you enable tower based locations, its not that accurate. Many times it shows the wrong location. This is more with CDMA handsets that the tower based locations are not accurate. I have also tried Llama which is again a great app based on locations but the problem remains the same. I have enabled locations based profile and it fires multiple times, even in every 10 min! I find NFC a very useful feature and now I am using it very extensively. Still have to explore many things since NFC app can also use the Tasker tasks!!! -

These are generic tags. Can be pasted at any place. Also they can store data upto 700k. Which is enough to carry out lot of tasks. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 -

^ I am already using Tasker and even running few tasks from it through NFC. Using NFC makes it more simpler. In tasker, you have to run the app and see which profile you want to run. IN NFC, you just have to tap it! And yes, its more high tech Quote from Cnet: -

When iphone was 3.5 inch, fan boys have put the same argument that anything above 3.5inch is not usable. Now apple has increased to 4, the argument remains the same! Kudos to fanboys. Nothing personal against anyone. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Apple iPhone 5 aluminum shell plagued by chipping issues 22 September, 2012 | Comments (355) | Post your comment Tags: Apple, iOS, Touch UI It seems to have become a routine now. Every year Apple releases a new iPhone and while most of the customers are delighted a subset of buyers pull the short end of the stick. With the iPhone 4, it was the antennagate issue, with the iPhone 4S it was the battery life problem and now some iPhone 5 buyers are noticing dents on their prized possession. Yes, many owners, particularly of the Black & Slate colored model, are reporting dents and scratches along the chamfered edges of their new iPhone right out of the box. We haven't seen many reports from owners of the White & Silver model, but that just might be because the color isn't particularly popular. Now, anodized aluminum is known to pick up scuff marks easily. Because the color is painted on top, even a minor scuff can make it come off, revealing a shiny silver spot below. Also, aluminum is a soft metal, so it dents very easily, especially along thin edges. You'll find scuffs and dents on practically every anodized aluminum object that has been used for a while. Which is why it wasn't a shock to us when we saw the iPhone picking up dents along the edges in this drop test. However, it is surprising when the device comes with scuff marks out of the box and points to poor quality checks at Apple's end. Of course, Apple will readily replace any such device for you. But if you're importing this device to a different country (and we know many do), you will need to be careful and hold on till the issue gets sorted. Update: Apparently, white units have the same issues as the black ones. We are really hoping Apple makes an official statement soon enough and explain the cause. http://www.gsmarena.com/certain_black_iphone_5_reportedly_come_with_dents_out_of_the_box-news-4844.php

A lot of users all around the world are facing Google Sign-In Error. Stay Calm, Google On Okay, maybe not panic but definitely confusion. If you’re currently the owner of an Android smartphone or tablet (and why wouldn’t you be?), you may have noticed your device prompting you about a “sign-in error” for you Google account. Attempting to follow the onscreen “touch to sign in to your account” directions will fail and take you back to the error screen. But don’t freak out, everything seems to be working as normal. Apps can still be download and updated from the Play Store, Gmail is still syncing, etc. We’re not sure what the issue is, but we’re confident Google is hot on the case and everything will be fixed up shortly. For ROM flashers who were ready to wipe or flash a new ROM — STAHP. http://phandroid.com/2012/09/19/google-sign-in-error-causing-mass-panic-in-the-android-community/ Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
