not familiar with iPad. but whatsapp is also not officially compatible with wifi only android tablets also. however, I have installed by downloading the apk file and directly installing it. the verification code came via sms to my mobile and I had to just punch that into the app on the tablet. something similar must be available for iPad also -

BBM Released For Android and iOS
commonman replied to phonegeek's topic in General Technical Discussion
^^^ I have used the following, 1. Whatsapp 2. LINE 3. Viber 4. BBM From my experience I would say LINE is the best option- free, has PC client that can run on multiple PCs (so you can use PC client from home & office and mobile app while on the move) and even supports video call. Viber comes close second, because it can support PC client on one machine only. But If you also want to use VoIP calls, then Viber is the best. Whatsapp suffers from the issue of not having PC client and free for only first year. BBM is pathetic. -
@rajan ji There is a doubt still whether Haier E617 supports EVDO or not. different sites indicate different specs.

Which is better Data Technology? - CDMA 1X OR GSM GPRS/Edge
commonman replied to drabhayshah76's topic in Data services
according to science, the shorter the radio wave, the higher is the penetration power. In India CDMA (both 1x & EV) works on 800 band. Whereas GSM works on 900/1800 band for EDGE and 2100 band for 3G. So inside a building, CDMA would always have higher reach and stability than GSM. -
[Help Needed] Restore foxpro files - Virus clean
commonman replied to csmart's topic in General Technical Discussion
normally every time Foxpro changes a DBF file, it saves the previous file with a .bak extension. see if the .bak files are intact. you would be able to open them with MS Excel if they are all right. if they are intact, you can save them back as .dbf files. If you have Office 2003 you can directly save from there otherwise download and install libreoffice and then open the .bak file in libreoffice and save in .dbf format. this way you would have all file structures and most data intact, although the data relating to the last session would not be possible to be retrieved. -

Reliance Jio - Pan India 4G / LTE network
commonman replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Jio 4G LTE (Prepaid & Postpaid)
Dhirubai's birthday is 28th Dec. On 28-12-2002 Mukhesh Ambani announched the launch of RIM, though the actual soft launch in Delhi happened in March and full service Launch happened in May 2003. They already are testing Jio networks at Delhi & Mumbai. So given the history, it is highly likely that on 28th Dec M.D. Ambani would come out with similar announcment of launch of Jio services, altough actual service launch may take some more time. -
but does it support GSM 3G?

Which is better Data Technology? - CDMA 1X OR GSM GPRS/Edge
commonman replied to drabhayshah76's topic in Data services
BSNL 3G has the tendency to shift between 3G & 2G. so you need to set your access to HSDPA/WCDMA only and not GSM+WCDMA/HSDPA. Best would be to take a SIM there and test. Since you are in Mumbai, you would get MTNL SIM there. MTNL has full roaming arrangement with BSNL at no extra cost. If there is no 3G signal, then CDMA 1x is better option. -
I am trying to find out more about this. as per this Ebay listing it is EVDO + GSM 3G - if so then it is the first budget phone with this feature http://www.ebay.in/itm/HAIER-ANDROID-CDMA-EVDO-GSM-TOUCH-SCREEN-PHONE-FOR-ANY-NETWORK-/290985992407?pt=IN_Mobile_Phones&hash=item43c01de0d7 it is also listed in shopclues and indicated as MTS branded but not GSM 3G http://www.shopclues.com/unlocked-mts-haier-he-e617-gsm-cdma-mobile-with-2mp-gps-android-2.3-en.html could not get specs on any site.
