Google Announces Chrome Books With Chrome OS
commonman replied to kshah's topic in General Technical Discussion
any smartphone, android or otherwise, has a basic OS that performs certain minimum basic functions even without data connectivity. without that, I wonder whether they would have been successful. A crome OS based device, without data, is nothing but a brick. -

BSNL Provide EVDO In SIM
commonman replied to me_saket's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Thanks kesav but is it full like as in tata indicom/mts etc or only within SDCA BSNL CDMA uses two types of numbering series. 1. Landline type STD+no : this is used for both FWP and Tarang WLL sets and roaming is limited to SDCA only. 2. Mobile type 10 digit no. : this is for full mobility service and roaming is possible All India except MTNL service area of Mumbai and Delhi. When RIM started, they were also using Landline type No. scheme with service restricted to SDCA. But they provided backdoor roaming by allotting a new temporary local landline no. in the city of roaming, with automatic call forwarding activated in the home city no. So anyone calling to the base no. got the call forwarded to the temporary no. In fact at that time, if one directly called the temporary no., no roaming charges (call forwarding charges) were charged to the customer. I remember for my Delhi RIM, I had muliple no. for the same handset, to enable it to work in whole of NCR consisting of multiple SDCAs - Delhi, Ghaziabad, Dadri, Faridabad, Gurgaon (total 5 different landline no. working on the same handset) -

Your Monthly Data Consumption On Mobile !
commonman replied to Honest's topic in General Technical Discussion
I use RCDMA for voice & SMS only (B559 handset). For data I use MTNL Delhi 3G prepaid. Average usage per month (based on record since Nov 2009) is around 400-450 MB. Using Spice Mi300 handset since Oct 2010, was using Micromax H360 earlier. -

Updated: Pesky SMSs/Calls: Major relief to users from March 21, 2011
commonman replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
why not TRAI put in a regulation that makes the operator to credit Rs.1 to the customer account (where customer is registered for DND) for every single unsolicitated SMS. That would automatically solve the problem. But TRAI would not do it, as it is subservient to the Govt. which in turn is subservient to the business community. -
Exclusive: TATA Indicom New EVDO HSIA Plans & Handset Offers
commonman replied to rajanmehta's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
only R-GSM 3G and MTNL 3G does not have separate charges for data consumed in Mobile TV. All other EVDO/GSM-3G operators, including BSNL, charges for the data use. MTS does not have any monthly subscription charges, all others charge monthly subscription also. -
MTS Mblaze Now Available Pan India!
commonman replied to SumitVerma's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
one issue that I faced in several cities including Delhi/NOIDA, Kolkata etc is that the signal strength is unstable. Every once in a while all signal bars would be gone and there would only be a cross to denote signal strength. This results in crawling speeds. What is even more strange is that the moment I disconnect, the signal strengths would increase, and the moment I connect again it would again be gone. -

@ACS If every single person vows not to give any bribe to anyone and wait patiently, there would no longer be any corruption. If every person vows to pay full tax on their earnings and on all business transactions, there would no longer be any corruption. If every person willingly accept fines/punishment for breaking rules, there would no longer be any corruption. If the laws of the Country are modified to remove all forms of reservation and make merit as the sole criteria for education, jobs etc, there would no longer be any corruption. If every single adult Indian, more so the educated ones, exercised their electoral rights properly, there would no longer be any corruption. If the Right To Information Act is extended to all NGOs, News channels etc, there would no longer be any corruption. .................... Only if..........

Irresistable Deals In Electronics, Gadgets, Mobiles, PC Hardware
commonman replied to rajanmehta's topic in General Technical Discussion
Just for the record, contrary to common perception of most hindi speaking people, hindi is not the national language of India. Because there are no "National Language" of India. All languages listed in the VIIIth Schedule of the Indian Constitution are given equal Status. Hindi is the "Official Language" of the Govt. of India, under the Official Languages Act, 1963. On ther note, received 8 GB Micro SD card from Letsbuy on 13th. Received an SMS with AWB No. of Bluedart. Called their customer care and fixed delivery time. Came nicely packed. Pack says Verbatim Europe. Not yet physically tested.- 6,376 replies

that proves two things, 1. Gorilla or no Gorilla, its Glass after all and would break more easily than that standard polymer based screens. 2. One should never develop to bad habit of using a phone while walking and looking at the screen rather than the road/floor.
