Does CDMA support Video Calling?
commonman replied to raghav.cn's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
^^^ That is HTC Droid Eris rebranded as MTS Pulse, loaded with Android 2.2. Its available free from MTS with 12 month lock-in of Rs.1500 p.m. rental (with free 1500 MB, 1500 locl/national SMS and 1500 local/STD minutes p.m.) For handset review, just google. -
While the efforts are definitely in the right direction, the outcome of these are very doubtful. Saw one female RJ of some pvt. FM channel ranting that she went to the passport office and had to pay at every place to get her passport. What she conveniently did not say was that she paid because she did not want to stand in the queue, did not want to wait for the stipulated dates, did not want to wait for the police verification process etc. Every time someone breaks a traffic rule, they are more ready to offer money to the traffic police than accept the challan and follow the due process of law. The very same youth who are jumping up and down at various public places in support of Anna would very quickly be willing to pay under the table to get into the IIM or get a high paying job. Same thing is happening everywhere. Corruption has reached the genetic level of this country, particularly the so called middle class. Will lokpal bill make it an offence to offer bribe or to entice someone with money? don't think so. Unless there are provisions to punish those who offer money, as long as there is even one Indian who is willing to jump the queue or not accept a traffic challan, and is also willing to pay for it, corruption would prevail. Anna or no Anna.

India Card Rupay - To Replace Visa, Mastercard

^^^ To add to that, Both Dr. Manmohan Singh and Dr. Montec Singh were associated with RBI. And the western world has great regards for both of them. Financial Inclusion is a home grown vision. And there is nothing to be ashamed about it. -
India Card Rupay - To Replace Visa, Mastercard
commonman replied to rajanmehta's topic in The Lounge
The basic issue is, there is no point is paying lots of foreign exchange to a US based firm for a payment gateway when all other infrastructure as well as the customers are domestic only. 99% of indian banking population never make even one international transaction in their whole life. If this becomes operational, the existing limits of 5 limited value free withdrawals per month while using other bank ATMs could well be revised to unlimited withdrawals. Also, with lower transaction charges larger number of merchants would start accepting cards and olnine transactions would become cheaper (while payment through netbanking today costs only Rs.10/txn, payment through credit card in most cases cost 1.8%). We can even see the advent of third party co. providing ATM infrastructure for all banks. So ultimately, the common man would benefit. -
India Card Rupay - To Replace Visa, Mastercard

If banks support, at least for online payment at Indian sites, this could be a reality. Then it would be easy to make this acceptable to merchants. Also, if the processing charges levied on merchant are lower than Master/Visa, they would adopt it quickly. -
only MTNL 3G & R-GSM 3G do not charge additionally for data usage while using mobile TV. For all other operators, data charges are levied in addition to TV subscription charges.

T24...it's Not Prepaid, Not Postpaid, But The First Unpaid Mobile Service
commonman replied to sougatadc's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Kishore Biyani is an expert in inducing Indian customers to make unnecessary purchases by giving the carrot of freebies. So he may actually earn 18K crore in bigbazar and pantaloon profits by giving a few crores in free talktime against airtime purchased in bulk from tata. please note that the increase is supposed to be in "total group revenue" and not in mobile segment. -
so does this mean death bells for airtel's IPTV service

H means HSDPA which is 3.5 G (better than 3G)

Please suggest a CDMA Handset with budget of Rs.5000
commonman replied to Rachaputi's topic in Handset Suggestions
Try Samsung B559. Rs.2000 No MP3, Camera or Net connection. But amazing battery back-up, a must when you are using the phone for 2 1/2 hours a day. Does not heat up that much. Sturdy body. And also plays FM without the need to attach handsfree. -

there was one in Delhi-NCR, where for Rs.5, 50 MB data was available for a day (till midnight) using MDN as userid & password. don't know if it would be applicable in your State. also the pack does not auto renew.

As compared to other common CDMA handsets, this one does not heat up that much.

Spice Mi-310 Budget Android With Impressive Feature List
commonman replied to rajanmehta's topic in Other handsets
I am using Spice Mi300 for last 4 months and quite satisfied with it. I have recently upgraded to 2.2 (its possible with official ROM from original manufacturer even though Spice has not offered it so far). It is available for 9500 (with a little bargaining). But this is a stripped down version and the main issue would be the phone internal memory (only 85 MB). It also uses T-Flash instead of Micro-SD card and supports only upto 16 GB. Only 2 MP Camera with no flash. Of course it has FM Radio as added functionality. -
I need a basic laptop for general use by my wife. I already have a 3 yr old Dell Latitude D630 provided by my office. So this would be more as a backup. But need something more powerful than typical Atom based Netbook. This product does not have an optical drive. The basic version is Rs.20990. However, there are too many configuration options and I am confused. So, need advice on following options, 1. Processor : AMD Athlon II Neo K345 Dual-Core Processor (add-on cost Rs.5000) AMD Athlon II Neo K145 Processor 2. OS: Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit [add-on price Rs.2,200.48] Genuine Windows® 7 Home Basic 64-Bit [add-on price Rs.470.98] Genuine Windows® 7 Starter 32-bit 3. K145 + Home Basic + 320 GB HD in lieu of 250 GB [add-on price Rs.2000] 4. K345 + Home Basic + 320 GB HD in lieu of 250 GB + 4 GB RAM in lieu of 2 GB [add-on price Rs.9000] Also need advice on whether some better options are available at same price levels. My experience with existing Dell was not good on Battery issue. The battery went dead after about 15 months. Thankfully, it was replaced by my office with a compatible one. If I select 3 year complete cover, would it include batteries also?
