Mobile Internet: High-Cost Data On The Move
commonman replied to savramesh's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
I think BSNL & MTNL 3G are the cheapest mobile data service @ 1p /10 KB, that too at avr. of around 1 mbps speed. Reliance 1x @ 599 unlimited is also not bad at all. -
In my case 3G access on MTNL no. while roaming in BSNL network was charged much higher than home rates.

for Java MIDP phones Snaptu is a really good application working with twitter, facebook, flickr, picasa and some more. Snaptu website

^^^ The site is not the official site. As has been very clearly indicated in LIC site, the scheme does not have any guaranteed rate of return and return is dependent on market conditions. Under such a situation, the projection of Rs.6.38 Lakhs in after investing Rs.3000 every month for 120 months is still not guaranteed. On the other hand, Rs.3000 invested every month for 120 months in PPF gives guaranteed return of 8% i.e. around Rs.5.50 Lakhs in which interest is absolutely Tax free and tax benefit is also available on investment.

Please go through the Benefit Illustration of LIC Jeevan Saral in the official website. It will be an eye-opener. LIC Jeevan Saral

skype/fring requires smart-phones. a 3G smart phone is effectively a computer with a 3G modem. skype/fring requires smart-phones. a 3G smart phone is effectively a computer with a 3G modem.

I have used GSM-3G and CDMA-EVDO, and the data access speeds are comparable

Gods Own Country Goes 3G
commonman replied to savramesh's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
You require USIM (3G enabled SIM) to access 3G services. What BSNL really means is that the existing users can use the same mobile number for 3G services. p.s. I'm using MTNL 3G in Delhi for last two months. -
As on date only MTNL and BSNL offers 3G service. Both of them offers 3G SIM which functions on any 3G device that support SIM.
-
But S3650 (Corby GSM) supports Java MIDP 2.0

There are several 3G phones in the market, but mostly in GSM/WCDMA and there are only two operators with 3G service, MTNL and BSNL. To be truely 3G, the service must offer video call facility and not just high speed data and normal voice calls. This hand-set does not have a secondary camera for video call, so it can never become a full 3G phone, even when the service is officially launched. But its definitely the best option for now.

Is OMH RUIM easily available for Reliance? And what data access is it getting on Reliance with the OMH RUIM? 1x or EVDO (seems some particular BB handset is getting EVDO data access)
-
"with photon+" does that mean its EVDO enabled?

I'm using MTNL 3G pre-paid since Nov. Right now the network is still a bit edgy. It slips from 3G to 2G and back to 3G every few KM. Where ever 3G network is available, speed is really good. 1.5 mbps plus. Video call facility is also working well where ever 3G signal is present.

Congratulations to all members for making RIMWEB a true success.

now if only there was a good CDMA+CDMA dual SIM handset to keep both services running together

Bharti Airtel Cuts Mobile Roaming Charges
commonman replied to ravi_patent's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
MTNL offers unlimited local calls to own network, both Mobile and Landline, at very reasonable rates, as one of the plans. Given that still most landlines are of MTNL in Delhi and Mumbai, it works out nicely for most business people. Which is one of the primary reasons people still go for it. -
And you did not file any case for Criminal Breach of Trust?

Bharti Airtel Cuts Mobile Roaming Charges
commonman replied to ravi_patent's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
I remember Sunil Mittal telling the press regarding possible reduction of rates when Reliance launched operation in 2003 "Bakri ko to halal hona hi parega, lekin kisto me". (The goat has no other option but to get slaughtered, but in instalments). Airtel seems to be still following the same principles in 2009. -
I need a 3G (HSDPA) handset with video call facility and business phone features. Blackberry service not essential. I have short-listed Samsung B7320 (available @ 12500) and Nokia E71 (available @ 15500) which one would be a better choice. Seen E63 also but it does not have secondary camera for video call Is there any other model that I can also look into?

Also are the Mblaze Data Cards UIM based or without UIM. Tariff seems to be fixed keeping in mind Reliance and TATA rates
