I have confirmed from Acer CC. It can be upgraded to Vista Ultimate with drivers from their website for Aspire 4710.

Get HTC 6800 Mogul from Sadik. Its got voice recording but not 2 way conversation recording.
-
No probs at all with SP3 (at least for me). Installed in at least 6-7 of my computers.
-
That is EPST not QPST (but basically does the same things with lesser powers). But QPST is a full fledge PC based programme from HTC itself that lets u control all your phones parameters. Email sent to u. read it.
-
Sometimes it happens. Go to techie enclave and read dummies guide (if you are a privileged member-or else get its membership from Sadik/Arun (Administrator)) It gives detailed guide as to how load QPST and do service programming and load reliance.prl. Or else give me your email and I will send you that document.
-
Don't do double posting when one topic is already running. And dont open new topics at your whim. Sometimes it happens that u need to load reliance.prl again. See my post in the earlier topic where u posted.
-
No you wont, And you let the customisations run, thats why that triangle has come. That triangle is harmless. To remove it you will have to use QPST programming to load reliance.prl once again in the Roam Tab. Read Dummies Guide for step by step procedure in Techie Enclave.

XP SP3 anyday, man. Full compatibility with everything. Less chances of entering the monolpolistic attitude where you will start paying for everything, which Vista is ultimately leading to a-la apple.

I think the max capacity of the board is 1.5GB. There seems a slot below with 2 nuts but I think it is for the 3G thing. Not sure if it is user expandable or you have to go to Acer Service to expand. Edit: I opened the slot below. Its not for memory, seems for 3G think, nothings in it. So the memory is not user replaceable.
-
I have just bought it yesterday yaar. But I have read on many forums that users are using it with Vista Ultimate even. And it works just fine. They use a dedicated SD Card memory to enhance RAM by the sharing feature of vista, that is why there are 2 Storage Expansion slots there on this UMPC. And anyways I dont like Vista.

The webcam though 0.3 MP, seems quite competent and clear (though not upto the 2MP marks), but it is not an issue at all. It is quite good to use in actual conditions and works wonderfully well in low light. But for your father, do keep in mind the compact designs, keys and screen, which older people do not like.

@hitman Go to HTC Site for loading Original Sprint ROM, That is the best. It has got all instructions also. The link is this - http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownload.aspx...=2&dl_id=73 Rest you also have to download the Extended ROM / Cracking 6800 folder from Hetals New ROM Topic, to get the required files. Load the 3 files as detailed above and also read the Links of Anupe's from HTC Tweaks topic page 17 (here's the link-read post no 28) http://www.rimweb.in/forums/index.php?show...13438&st=15. After loading the Sprint ROM, remember not to let Sprint Customisations run by keeping stylus ready in your hand and push in reset hole below the phone as soon as you see the Sprint Customisations will run in 3 seconds message on screen(otherwise you will have to reload the reliance.prl again) and the load the 3 Reliance cabs, then also load the HP_Rel_Settings.cab from the Extendend ROM to get all Reliance Dialler settings and also to get Rworld file in your programs. Rest is detailed above. Read Anupes Topic properly before proceedings. He has given step by step method to load original sprint rom.

@puneet I have just bought this Acer Aspire One. And I must tell you I am blown away by this small notebook. I bought it for 22900/- including bill and warranty from Nehru Place, Delhi. I am typing this right now from Aspire One only. It has got XP Home with SP3 preloaded. Only thing is that it does not have a Optical Drive, but the form factor and ease to carry, only 1 kg weight, 3 hours battery backup (with the original 3 cell battery) is fantastic. If possible you could upgrade to the 6 cell battery for 5-6 hrs backup, but the battery size of the 6 cell is bigger than the body and will extrude out and also I think it is not available in India yet. It has got 120GB hard disk and 1 GB RAM. It boots faster than my Core2Duo laptop. XP is full fledge with nothing cut short. It has 3 USB ports, 2 (yes 2) Card Readers, 1 for dedicated SD and 2nd is 6in1 types, Wi-Fi (fantastic range-more than my other laptop), LAN port, VGA out, Headphone and Mic ports, 8.9" ultra bright backlit TFT screen, Touchpad with left and right keys and scroll zones, Full keyboard (about 90% of normal size, but no problem typing). Also I think it can be upgraded to 3G in the future by a slot below the notebook. I love its dark blue color. Other options you may consider are MSI wind also available at nearly same price, but it has 80GB HDD. On the plus side it has 10" screen and bluetooth also. But form factor is slightly bulkier and Service Centres are an issue. Acer has Service Centre even in Meerut (thats why I bought this one)

It is now 100% board level problem, as we had already discussed. Now the thing is, if you go to HTC, they may give you estimate more than the cost of the phone. Try them first, after that you can talk to sadik, if he can get it repaired somehow in Mumbai. That will be your best bet.

@vijay From what I have downloaded it seems very complicated to install. It doesnt have a single cab file and you have to install 4-5 softwares before installing it, and that also file by file. How did you install it?

Had already tried that procedure before. Its not working... And also with internet connection sharing, you will be using your PPC's (Reliance's) Internet Connection and speed and not of your Broadband...

^^^^ Go to Start-Settings-Connections-Connections-Advanced-Select Network-Select "My ISP" from the drop down box in Programs that automatically connect to Internet box-Edit-You will see a connection "phone as modem"-edit-next-next-then add your username and password as your 10 digit phone no.-Finish . After that again select Rel MobileWorld as your default Connection (because the My ISP settings are automatically taken by Internet Sharing) Then for connecting to Internet just go to Programs-Internet Sharing-PC Connection is USB-Click Connect. After it connects attach your usb cable to PC, thats it - PC will automatically detect internet Connection and you can start using internet. If for any reason it does not do so - Disconnect and repeat the procedure-It will surely do. For GPS - First load the GPS cabs that I have given above to main memory-then reboot-then Download-Google Maps or search topic where I have explained how to load Destinator to kshah and load Destinator (Cant repeat the process, its quite long) (Its in the Topic - Find Your Way With The Htc Ppc 6800 - Mogul, PPC 6800 has a STANDALONE GPS!!! - And It works here too, Post no. 127). In Google Maps (which is the best except voice prompts) connect via Wi-Fi or RWorld or RConnect, let the map load, then click on Menu-Use GPS. Stand in open to sky area when you do so. It will connect to 4-7 satellites within 2-3 minutes. Thats it. Also Google Navigator is available with voice prompts, though I havnt tried it yet.

^^^^ Anyhow I dont use bluetooth for active sync. Also remember bluetooth can never handle broadband speeds as it was not built for that and for that cable connection is the best... But this problem should be sorted out, anyways... There were some posts posted earlier, kindly search the forum pages, maybe you will find solution, and then let us all know.

@hetal bhai I need the beautiful alarm tones and ring tones that were there in this new rom. Somehow forgot to copy them. Need them to use on normal sprint rom. Would be most obliged if you could post them. Also awaiting your next rom...

Here's the HP_GPS.cab file (remove the .zip in the end by renaming it, to use it), for GPS settings, because in this ROM, when connecting GPS from your device, the Default connection also comes alive (donno why). After installing this small 5kb cab, your registry entries get OK and the phone does not try and dial a connection. HP_GPS.cab.zip

@hitman through bluetooth, it is usually problematic unless you have got a tweaked up bluetooth module setting on the PPC as well as on PC. Even I tried connecting, I was able to transfer files between PC and PPC, was also able to use the PC as headset, But WAS NOT ABLE to connect via activesync, even after creating Com port on the same one used on my PC for active sync. Something is blocking it, somehow.

Sorry for troubling the big Bosses, Because it was such a simple mistake. But I found the resolution to the problem of using phone as modem. You have to configure the MyISP connection in this new rom with the details like your 10 digit phone no. and password. And VOILA you are connected to the PC as modem (In fact I am typing and sending this post through mu PC using my PPC as modem), because by default in this new rom, it uses My ISP connection to connect through in Internet Sharing. Thats it, so simple...
