HTC Incredible OTA Update Mysteriously Arrives! by Rob Jackson on May 1st, 2010 As I sit down to work on our Android Phone Guide and eat some tasty General Tso's Chicken, I notice something curious pop up on my HTC Incredible – a big "System Update" dialogue box: Pressing the "More Info" button didn't yield a very good explanation of what was included: So we know its 3.5MB but that's about it… and the link they offered to http://www.verizonwi...crediblesupport was currently a broken link. Time to install the update and do some sleuthing for myself! Here is the phone info from before and after: So the Build Number changed from ending in 493 to ending in 494 and the Software number changed from ending in .0 to .2 – so this was definitely wasn't a phantom update even though the Firmware version still reads 2.1-update1. What exactly did this update accomplish? I'm not sure… but I've got word into HTC and Verizon and hopefully we can collectively figure out what this Indredible OTA is all about. I'm guessing it could be something to do with the glitchy signal bar display but that's just a guess.

^ Yes, approximately same; though HD2 weighs about 15 grams less... 4.74"x 2.64" x 0.43" 157gms (5.54 ounces) 512MB Rom/448MB RAM; 480 X 800 WVGA - HD2 4.8" x 2.6" x 0.5" 170 gms (6 ounces) 1 GB ROM/512 MB RAM, 480 X 800 WVGA - EVO 4.63" x 2.3" x 0.47 " 130 gms (4.59 ounces) Flash/ROM 8GB + 512MB/RAM 512MB, 480 X 800 WVGA - Incredible and there can NEVER be a BEST ONE!! EVER.... by the time the Evo comes around another great smartphone would be ready to launch in 3 months time...

I have handled the bigger phones and feel that the size of the Hero is just perfect in comparison to the Nexus 1/Incredible...
-
it will come within 3-4 months....but difference are quite miniscule between the Incredible and Evo, at least those usable by us; as the front camera and 4G are useless for us here in India; hdmi port already has substitute on Incredible with its component output; so that basically leaves a larger screen (though same resolution) and heavier weight to content with... and some friends of mine who have handled the test units in the US are saying its a little too large than imagined...

^ - It is quite costly right now and will cost landed about 25-30K here in India

All I can say to you is that Blackberry (and other operating systems) are RAPIDLY losing its market share to Android worldwide; so there has to be a solid reason behind that... 9700 is a very solid device with a very bland operating system and a very poor browser... Hero is also a solid device though totally touch based and a little plasticy in comparison to the chromes on BB.... Now if u are uncomfortable with a touch based device, then that is the ONLY reason for me to go for key based blackberry; but otherwise Android beats BB in all other aspects... also battery life of this blackberry may be slightly better than this android device... COMPARATIVE SCORES BY ME - HTC INCREDIBLE 85/100 SPRINT HERO 81/100 BLACKBERRY 9700 77/100 APPLE iPHONE 3GS 83/100 HTC HD2 79/100

Google Android Group Shows Cracks As Partners Seek Alternatives

^ I dont agree... Google has never left its openness and has found a perfect business solution which is consumer centric unlike other manufacturers... they earn from the advertisement model rather than the os itself... -

An operating system which has garnered nearly 10% market share in 1 year of its launch is a big threat to major players... All these news are placed to create doubts by the competitors... -
Here's a video to tell you how to avoid wallpaper force crop on many android devices (also hero) -
-
^ Dont worry, your/my Hero is also a very capable device and very handy in size and pocketable; Now with 2.1 on the anvil soon, will become even more powerful...
-
@Arun It was obvious; as Incredible specs are higher than Nexus 1's; It would have killed the Nexus 1 brand name... I went to their buying site today and this is the exact message when I tried to get the Verizon Nexus 1 -
-
^ The specs of Incredible are anyways HIGHER than that of the Nexus 1, so I see no point in waiting for CDMA Nexus 1; Also the sense ui interface over android 2.1 will NOT be introduced by Google branded phones (same like GSM Nexus 1) as that is a proprietary software of HTC and will be introduced ONLY in HTC Branded phones...
-
whoao Dj.... I was missing the HDMI port on Incredible and the demo shows it has as Component Out cable accessory available to immediately see whats on the phone onto your TV/LCD; even watch a movie... so no more missing the HDMI slot...
-
^ lol... if u have calls more than an HOUR any cdma phone will heat up... with HOUR long calls, 1 day battery life is VERY GOOD
