1. I think we are all getting betrayed. And these ISPs are playing cheap games with us. Ne way somebody toldme Rel BB is starting in end of Jan. Is tat true? Nebody knows!
2. No, they will mostly give you a DSL modem. Its very different from the regular V90 modem Guys, these companies will NEVER change unless some pioneering company (*cough*reliance*cough*) comes out with unlimited data transfer packages at DIRT CHEAP rates! Oh and another thing, I WANT A PUBLIC IP AND NOT A PRIVATE IP. For those guys who dont know what the difference a public and private ip is....well just think of it this way, if you get a private ip(something like 10.x.x.x) you wont be able to run any p2p programs like bittorrent, kazaa, gnutella etc... 23778 Not necessarily. If you don't get a private IP, you can still run P2p programs. Actually in such a case u come under aNAT server. NAT server is simply A server that translated your Global (temperrroy) IP to a Local one, which is permanent. So ISPs put a NAT Firewall over it and block all your ports from outside the network. So no one outside you can directly access ur comp. Not all ISP use NAT firewall. For eg. Reliance Broadband doesn't use one. Got to their broadband site and chek out the user policy document. In that the last point tells you that they block only specific ports. To see if your ISP really blocks all your ports, you can do this: First get your global IP using this site: http://www.showmyip.com Then use some port scanner software like look@Lan and perform a port scan on theis global IP address. For your information Sify blocks all Ports. And MTNL/BSNL practically cannot block any port. Because they don't use NATing.
3. Betrayed. I am totally Betrayed. First that MTNL's Braodband cap limit. And secont the most vulnerable of all. U MUST READ THIS: Sify Broadband is cheating its subscribers. I use SIFY Unlimited at 64kbps speed for 3060 for 6 months. What they allow you to use is really pathetic. First, no video and voice chats. Second, though unlimited you are not allowed to download after 100 MB per day. Third, trivial yet never gets 64kbps. Inspite of all these they still call it Broadband and put it as Unlimited. I think it is high time TRAI takes some action against such companies who cheat people. I am totally frustrated as my download all stops in the middle of the night. People who are thinking of getting Sify please think twice about it. There is a pettition to TRAI going around about these Broadband wallas. I think every one must go and sign it: http://www.petitiononline.com/trai/petition.html And for the moment. I think the only good thing is Reliance. So if someone is using it please please put on a review about its speed. I am reaaly in need for a better Broadband.
4. Now let's think a little wisely. Rather than considering the download speed that the ISP's provide. Let's try to calculate the maximum amount of data that we could download per month. I connection with the discussion on : "who offers fastest net connectivity?" it is clear that there in no one at the moment offering better than 3 GB of download per month. There are some cable walas here and there. And the Asianet cable down south, who are quite impressive. The rest is all the same. BSNL wallas must have considered all this. And remember Tata offering 512Kbps at a very cheap download limit. I feel same must be the case with BSNL. If they wish to sell their product they could be going for a 3 or 3.5 GB download limit. But are still below our expectations. I feel it's all cheap strategies that they are using : CREATE A HYPE and OFFER NOTHING. I think there is only one who can change our days. And that is Reliance itself. But they too sticking to their too cheap 'OwnerShip Issues', I think none can save us.
5. That is absolute non-sense. ISPs are NEVER and i mean NEVER billed for the amount of data transferred. They are billed ONLY for the bandwidth they buy from the international backbones! So if some ISP(not small time guys) in India tells you that he is being billed by the amount of data transfer his network generates then just shoot him at the very instant! Because he is lying! 19754 You are right: ISP's are charged based on the bandwidth they get from their International Backbone providers. But the fact is there has to be a compromise between speed and Download limit. What i mean to say is this: ISP's have to perform some kind capacity planning. That is the bandwidth they get (from the Backbone) must be equal to the sum of the bandwidth they provide to all their subscribers. Now, if a ISP allows 256Kbps bandwidth at unlimited download to say, 100 of its customers. then its got to have a 25600Kbps of backbone data transfer speed. This is not practically possible if the no of customers go up. So i believe that this is the only problem what the ISP here in INDIA must be facing. You see with such huge population, the backbone speed will have to increase exponentially. So better not to expect any better deal from BSNL. THERE IS CERTAINLY GOING TO BE A DOWNLOAD LIMIT. At the moment I think no one other than Reliance is offering a better deal.
6. Rschool

Guys, Guys! I know there is a school. But i am asking if there are shools. I mean how many. I know only one. But the page asks for a School code. why is that?
7. Who Offers Fastest Net Connectivity?

Seems none is offering a better deal.
8. Ooops. It is amazing to see 41% people saying Mukesh. Probably because he is the one who owns the Infocomm.
9. Rschool

Are there any more branches of this school. The form asks for a school code!! Methinks It's just a prank that some ril employee is trying to play.
10. Who Offers Fastest Net Connectivity?

Me First.........! I stay at Navi mumbai - Airoli Have Sify Broadband. Package says : 36Kbps/Shared -- Unlimited -- Rs 3060 for 6 months What I get : * around 3KBps during day * and around 7-8KBps during night Overall service : OK Karthee
11. Hello People! Who offers the Fastest Net Connectivity? This is the topic of the discussion here. I feel there are a lot more people out there in Need of Speed. And some who need not just the Speed, but a better compromise with Cost and D/L Limit. This discussion focuses only on that. I request people to post in their comments about their Net provider. Along with the speed they get, the cost and any limits they have. It is also better to post in the area where you live or where you get such a connectivity. I hope this discussion becomes handy for all those speed savvy people....! Regards, Karthee ---------
12. Why Dont We Get BroadBand Speeds in India?

Yes, I think there are thinking of offering around 2Mbps. But that will include all, TV, Voice, Movie, Net etc.
13. Effective R-Connect Speeds

Hey Tanver. ThanX a lot for introducing me to the Broadband. That was exactly what i was speaking. But i think they are planning for something really big. Or else why have they not advertised about this as they did for the other stuffs. But one of my close friend works at Reliance and he said me that these fibers are really capable of giving u speeds upto 2Mbps (ie. E1 in their terminology) NE way, thanx again.
14. Effective R-Connect Speeds

Guys I really don't know anything about Reliance starting a Broadmband connection. But I surely know that they are going to start something much much better than the sum af all the telecomms available now in India. Yup, many must have seen them laying Fiber all over the place and bringing in fibers upto ur door step. These fibers are going to get everything in telecomm that u want at your doorstep. There are actually planning to give a E1 a house. That is around 2Mbps of dedicated speed. This speed can be used for anyrhing from simple voice to video to download to telephony. But I believe the rates are going to be enormous. There seems to be some problem for them to bring this into existence. But I think once this comes. All our Spped problems will be solved. Hope for the Best
15. Hey guys. I am not a R Connect user. But i just noticed the problem u have, and could not control but to comment on this. I also had the same problem. the only difference being, I was using Sify Broadband. Mine used to disconnect after 5-10 mins. This always pissed me. I have a suggestion. Instead of using a Ping, why don't u people use a already available software. There are pretty lot of freewares that can keep the internet connection alive. They use very little resources and hide themselves in the windows tray. U can get a lot of such softwares at download.com. like : Stay On pro 4.0, 1Kickthis 1.0, etc. Better be aware of the ones with adwares. Bye
