  1. U guys r amazing! Love being around here to read u'll ! BTW the Ambani sister seems to be equally smart at establishing a Coffee Shop Chain thru WebWorlds! Its bound to grow at all those places where WW goes... ! Has anybody ever tasted Coffee there? What is it like? I'ven't been attracted to it simply coz its minuscule and is jus added to the crowded WW. Cant feel cozy there! What say?
  2. Time To Throw The Rim Phone !

Even if there wud be one, there is not much scope for it to grow! Out of the total Subscriber base of TATA, if 1% is to be taken to have access to Internet, acc to Statistics... and out of which assuming jus .01% posting at the forum(what we see at RIMWEB.com) then its hardly any no. And hence a TATA Forum cannot be a success Story really. Anyways, we can encourage individuals to build one and we can link that to our forum like we did for GSM Users! Any takers?
  3. Non SMS Stuff

Anything that is not SMS(160 characters) and are plainly fwds or longer jokes, can go on this thread! Chandramauli, ur posts have been merged here!
  4. Time To Throw The Rim Phone !

BSNL slashes cellular tariff by 60% August 27, 2004 18:19 IST Rediff.com In what could trigger a major price war among telecom service providers, state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam on Friday slashed its cellular tariff by up to 60 per cent. Announcing a major revision in charges for various services provided by it, BSNL Chief V P Sinha said STD charges would also stand reduced by up to 33 per cent. Hutch joins price war, cuts pre-paid rates August 26, 2004 19:39 IST Rediff.com Joining the price war with Reliance and AirTel in the pre-paid segment, Hutch on Thursday introduced lowest local call rates of 99 paise to any other mobile but slapped a fixed charge of Rs 25 per month. The main difference is that Hutch has allowed lower tariffs to be applicable to other mobile networks as well, while AirTel and Reliance had lowered the existing local and STD rates within their own networks. Hutch has also lowered STD tariffs through a special promotion of Rs 2.25 a minute to all mobiles and fixed phones with a monthly charge of Rs 25. Hutch has also reduced local call rates to Rs 1.99 a minute from the existing Rs 2.75 to all mobile and fixed phones. While on STD calls, the company has kept the tariffs unchanged for mobile-to-mobile, in the case of calls to fixed phones it has lowered it to Rs 2.99 from the existing range between Rs 2.99 to Rs 4.99 a minute. AirTel had slashed its local call tariffs by 60 per cent to Re 1 per minute from Rs 2.49 within its network while increasing the STD tariff to any other mobile and WLL phone to Rs 3.25 a minute from the existing rate of Rs 2.99. Reliance Infocomm Ltd also had announced reduction in pre-paid tariffs by 60 per cent under which local and intra-circle calls from Reliance IndiaMobile to any other Reliance phones had been reduced to 99 paise per minute from Rs 2.49 per minute. STD rates on AirTel-to-AirTel have also been cut to Rs 2 per minute from Rs 2.99, making it cheaper than fixed line. For STD calls to fixed line operators, AirTel had hiked tariffs to Rs 3.25 for a distance slab of 50 to 200 km. But for other distance slabs of 200 to 500 km and above 500 km, the STD rate has been reduced to Rs 3.25 per minute. In the case of Reliance, calls originating from Reliance pre-paid to other GSM and landline phones would be charged at a flat rate of Rs 1.79 per minute. Inter-circle calls from RIM pre-paid to other Reliance handsets of fixed wireless phones and fixed wireless terminals anywhere in the country would now cost only Rs 1.79 per minute, down from Rs 2.99 per minute. Calls to other GSM operators and landline has been reduced to Rs 2.49 per minute. The new Hutch flat rates will be available to Orange pre-paid users as well. "We have simplified the pre-paid tariff structure by introducing a flat rate to any local mobile phone. We are also increasing the affordability of a mobile pre-paid connection compared to fixed lines. "The flat rate for STD calls irrespective of the distance is also strong incentive for preferring a Hutch connection over a fixed line", Harit Nagpal, chief marketing officer Hutch, said. Airtel reduces prepaid local call rates by 60% BS Economy Bureau in New Delhi | August 25, 2004 10:57 IST Rediff.com Airtel, India's leading mobile service provider on Tuesday reduced its prepaid tariffs on local calls by 60 per cent and STD calls by a third for Airtel to Airtel callers. Local calls to a fixed line and to other mobile phones have been reduced by up to 25 per cent. As per the new tariffs, local call rates from Airtel prepaid to any other Airtel mobile have been slashed to Re 1 per minute from the present Rs 2.45 per minute. Customers can now call any other Airtel mobile in the country at only Rs 2 per minute. Airtel has also introduced a simplified uniform rate for STD calls to any fixed line phone in the country. A call made to any fixed line phone would now be charged at Rs 3.25 per minute, irrespective of the distance, the company said in a release issued on Tuesday. The new tariffs would be rolled out between 25th and 26th August across all circles and be applicable to both new and existing customers on payment of a nominal one-time charge of Rs 50. The charge would be waived for new customers registering before September 30. "We believe that these tariffs will catalyse a steep growth in the mobile category. The tariffs so introduced are simple and are aimed at providing best value to our customers," said Manoj Kohli, president Mobility, Bharti Tele Ventures Ltd, while announcing the tariffs. The company has an aggregate of 8.73 million customers as on 31 July 2004 and offers services in sixteen out of 23 circles in India. NOW WAITING FOR RELIANCE to get going!

I find only Saurav so concerned abt this GTRAN thing! I think he has taken it up like a mission! Long Live such Efforts! Its good to see such head-strong stuff happening from individuals! Guys owning GTRAN, pls jus post here wht u've written to RIM all this while and let Saurav know abt the same such tht he can feel a lil relaxed! And meanwhile, Saurav, u can spam RIM office with dummy Reliance Nos. and email ids abt ur problem on GTRAN Phone !
  8. Time To Throw The Rim Phone !

When u compare the two, recollect the subscriber bases! 80 million to how many in TATA?? If u have 90% CDMA subscribers with RIM, and jus 10 % with TATA, whose noise will be most heard?? Obviously a slight billing problem in RIM will be heard 9 times more than that of TATA. And thts whts been happening with every simple issue in RIM! By the way, y dont u see a TATA Forum by now??
  9. Legal Forum

Saurav, If any illegal discussions go ahead in the forum, then the Admins will take requisite steps to curb the discussions as done in the past! As far as this forum being legal; firstly, we are not bound to any legal obligations under RIM and hence can discuss freely. Secondly, Internet is no one's property, and hence any garbage can also be a part of Internet. Its jus that, once u start offending ppl and their activities, is when they would start curbing ur initiatives. In India, acc to IT ACT 2000, the Govt of India has the right to ask all Indian ISPs to block a website which they deem unfit for Indians! And for such things to happen they need to have enuf evidences! If RIM is being offended by some content of our forum they can let us know, The admins n mods will amicably decide whether it needs to be removed. Rest, we all live in FREE India... so keep going

  12. AirTel to start J&K service Sameer Bhasin in Jammu | September 11, 2004 10:50 IST Rediff.com Even though it is not official yet, AirTel is set to launch its services in Jammu and Kashmir this month. Though the executives are still shying away from giving a date of launch, company sources have confirmed Bharti Cellular Ltd is going ahead with simultaneous launches in the Kashmir and Jammu regions in September. The company has finalised 16 franchised outlets -- eight each in the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region -- that will issue mobile connections to consumers in the state immediately after the launch. While five outlets have been finalised for the city of Jammu and also five for Srinagar, the rest will cater for customers of other parts of the two regions, including one exclusively for Katra, the base camp of Vaishno Devi. Bookings are likely to begin a week before the launch. However, it was learnt there would be an open sale of sim cards. The company has set up two switching centres (main switching centres) in the state, one in Jammu and the other in Srinagar. According to a senior company executive, AirTel will bring a range of special packages and schemes specially devised for local corporates, which will differentiate the firm from others. "Good customer care, service and reach are the unique selling prepositions on which AirTel plans to do viable business in J&K," the executive said. It was also learnt that AirTel was setting up two customer-care facilities, one each in Jammu and Srinagar. These facilities will be connected online, with the main customer care centre being in Mohali. The company plans to add local flavour to customer care. While the customer care centre in Srinagar will answer queries in Kashmiri and Urdu, besides English, the one in the Jammu region will handle queries in Dogri, Hindi, and English. The service provider will offer just post-paid connections, because defence authorities have not allowed pre-paid services due to security reasons. AirTel operates in 16 circles. Including those in J&K, it will operate in five more. It hopes to receive overwhelming response in the state. AirTel is likely to offer customised products such as closed user group and call conferencing. 18. Now, rail tickets on mobiles September 09, 2004 17:33 IST Rediff.com Rail tickets can now be booked on mobile phone, with the Railways on Thursday launching a new cellphone-based ticketing service. Inaugurated by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, the new facility will be available on Hutch and Reliance cellphone services under the aegis of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation. To be provided in the National Capital Region on a pilot basis for trains running from and to Delhi, the service will be expanded to 120 cities in the country. Payment will be through credit card. While on Hutch, the facility is voice-based and is provided through their '123' value-added service, a Java-based booking service is being offered by Reliance through their 'R' world service. "Ticketing was being done through the Internet. But limited number of people have access to Internet. On the other hand, mobile phones are very common and almost everybody has it," Lalu said, while unveiling the new facility. The minister also described the launch of the new service as a "farewell" for around 9000 rail travel agents. "We will now be saved from the menace of touts," he said. Yadav also announced that the government was considering introduction of a credit-card based sale of rail tickets at the reservation counters. Earlier, announcing the new facility, IRCTC managing director M N Chopra said the Railways had asked all cellphone companies to be part of the new service. "To begin with, Hutch and Reliance are providing the service. Hopefully, other mobile companies will come forth and we also expect the facility to be made available on landline phones," Chopra said.

Lol, I guess our good old MTNL hit very hard this time! Kudos, am waiting for October 2! 80p/min! MTNL offers lowest cell rates Rediff.com | September 08, 2004 19:18 IST State-owned Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd on Wednesday announced the lowest cellular tariff of 80 paise a minute for post-paid users within its own network and Rs 1.20 to other cellular phones with a monthly rental of only Rs 100. The company has also lowered STD charges to a flat rate of Rs 2.40 a minute irrespective of distance and network, an effective reduction of 50 per cent in highest distance slab. "We are not levying any hidden cost like additional monthly subscription charges. Even in pre-paid category, our customers would be at advantage as they get Rs 240 worth of talktime in a Rs 324 card," MTNL chairman R S P Sinha said. The new tariffs for pre-paid users has been proposed at 90 paise a minute within its own network and Rs 1.50 on other phones. For calls on fixed network and WLL phones, MTNL has announced Rs 1.50 a minute for pre-paid users and Rs 1.20 for post-paid subscribers. In another customer friendly move, MTNL has reduced the tariffs for fixed-line subscribers while making calls to cell phones by way of increasing the pulse duration to 90 seconds from 60 seconds now. Sinha also said that capacity in the GSM-based cellular services has been expanded to meet the growing demand. The new tariffs will come into effect from October 2.
  20. China Tele, Flag in connectivity pact August 26, 2004 18:09 IST Rediff.com China Telecom has selected Reliance-owned Flag Telecom to provide international bandwidth capacity between China and US West Coast, under a multi-million dollar contract. Under the agreement, Flag Telecom would provide 30 GBIT capacity over multiple STM-16s between China and the US, Reliance Infocomm Ltd said in a release in Mumbai on Thursday. This is the largest capacity purchase ever placed by China Telecom and the contract would help in providing a platform to deliver advanced services in the region, it said. The STM-16s would provide full-circuit, high-quality connectivity to carry large volumes of voice, data and Internet traffic between China and the US West Coast, it added. The contract is expected to satisfy mid to long-term bandwidth forecast demand in the region, which is being driven primarily due to the continuing growth of Internet protocol traffic and Internet applications. Flag would provide an integrated solution based on its FLAG North Asia Loop system and Tyco Telecommunications' TGN Trans-Pacific cable, it said. China Telecom deputy general manager Chang Siu Ping said, "This agreement enables us to meet the burgeoning demands of our customers and ensures we meet the anticipated growth in new broadband services". Flag Telecom CEO Patrick Gallagher said, "China Telecom has now put in place a fast, reliable and scaleable platform to deliver advanced services and meet high-speed connectivity demands."
