Hook on dudes... heres from my end now... I have a Samsung handset at home as well.. n hence i waited till the battery discharged and showed LOW BATTERY WARNING. After this i followed the instructions for recharging(I assume Reserve Battery).... I wasn't able to call or use the phone after the "Low Battery Warning"... The result after following the instructions:: The Battery indicator showed "Full". But, it wasn't really that FULL. I could make a call.. and Decently talk for several minutes. But, the Blue LCD Light kept goin dim n bright all the while. I surfed R-World in this... n it worked for quite sometime. My sis was getting apprehensive n she kept it on recharging again as i kept it aside... So cudn't check for how long it shud have worked... But if its Reserve Battery, then it might finish off soon... n then u cant using those codes to recharge again n again. Coz somewhere, even the reserve can go empty!! Anyways, in times of dire need... this can help... But sadly, this dire need comes again n again very quickly!! Reliance, after all !

Trai wants licence fee cut to 6% BS Economy Bureau in New Delhi | August 07, 2004 11:47 IST Rediff.com The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Friday recommended a sharp cut in the licence fee for telecom companies from 15 per cent to 6 per cent of the adjusted gross revenue. It also proposed to exempt infrastructure providers, radio paging and Internet telephony companies as well as operators in rural areas with less than 1 per cent teledensity from paying the licence fee, registration charges and obtaining bank guarantees. In its draft recommendations on unified licensing, the regulator has proposed a Rs 107 crore (Rs 1.07 billion) registration charge for telecom service providers in addition to a charge based on the entry fee paid by basic telecom service providers that received licences for various circles from 2001. TV Ramachandran, director-general, Cellular Operators Association of India, said the entry fee imposed was too high. "It will create an entry barrier," he said. Further, the draft does not propose inter-circle connectivity. "The consumer would have benefited had the regulator allowed it," he added. Ramachandran, however, said Trai's proposal to reduce the licence fee for unified licence holders would enable companies to lower tariffs in long-distance services. "This has been one of our long-standing demands. This may lead to tariff reductions on long-distance calls," he said. RP Singh, chairman and managing director, PowerGrid, said telecom infrastructure providers' operating expenditure would come down if the government implemented the proposed zero-licence fee regime. "Market forces will decide whether bandwidth prices will decrease," he added. The fixed component of the registration charges is proposed to be reduced gradually from Rs 107 crore to Rs 30 lakh (Rs 300 million) after five years. The fixed Rs 107 crore component represents the discounted value of national long-distance and international long- distance entry fees. Trai has proposed three categories: licensing through authorisation, class licence and unified licence. The unified licence will include basic and cellular services, long-distance, Internet telephony, broadcasting services and all services in the other two categories. Class licenses will include V-SAT, niche operators in rural areas where the teledensity is below 1 per cent and all services under the licensing-through-authorisation category, which covers infrastructure providers, radio paging and Internet services, including Internet telephony. The companies acquiring a unified licence will have to obtain performance bank guarantees. The regulator has made it mandatory for the licensee offering national long-distance services to pick up the traffic of its subscribers in all service areas. For international long-distance services, the existing roll-out obligations will continue. There will be no roll-out obligations for the class licence and the licensing-through-authorisation categories. What it means Local call tariff unlikely to change, long-distance calls to become cheaper Operating expenses for telecom companies to come down Bharti, Reliance, Tata Teleservices can offer PC-phone calling facility Companies can route voice calls through the Net to save costs Bandwidth prices may drop

If am not wrong, no company can force u to buy a handset just from them to use their service... If u r able to get a phone compatible with the service provider's network, they will have to give u service! It may be that they give u the Standard TRAI Package. Doesn't mind, but they will have to give u. In our country, since the beginning, RIM has seen to it that no CDMA manufacturers enter into local marketing of their phones, meaning: u will not be able to get them locally other than the service providers themselves! Unless other manufacturers enter this strong RIM Protected market in India, we wud not get better handsets at cheaper rates. Other option is to import individual handsets and use them!! The only problem is how affordable wud it be then! Static, we've surely discussed abt this issue earlier at this thread

Whether it does or doesn't ... It wont be mentioned on www.rimweb.com !

quite a smart thing!! Wish we had such policy makers at the top levels rather than those dumb babus!

'Telecom FDI cap to be raised' BS Economy Bureau in New Delhi | August 04, 2004 09:50 IST Rediff.com Communications Minister Dayanidhi Maran on Tuesday said the government was firm on raising the foreign direct investment cap in the telecom sector to 74 per cent from the present level of 49 per cent. He also said that the government was not considering any proposal to merge the telecom public sector organisations, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a seminar on e-governance in municipalities, Maran said, "FDI is welcome in the Indian telecom sector as it will cater to the need to finance huge infrastructure facilities. We will listen to the views expressed by our partners and will come out with a final decision very soon." In Budget 2004-05, Finance Minister P Chidambaram has said the government would raise the FDI cap in telecom along with civil aviation and insurance. But the plan for telecom has run into opposition among the partners of the United Progressive Alliance government, who have said this would compromise the security interests of the country. Maran said he would not like to comment on the issue. He also said that the government was not planning to merge BSNL and MTNL. "Merger of the two PSUs is not an issue in my ministry," Maran said. The previous government at the Centre had mooted the merger, to develop on the synergy between the two organisations. Instead, Maran said, "BSNL and MTNL will start providing broadband services from December this year, across the country." The two companies have already started rolling out infrastructure required to offer such services, he said. Maran said he expected the broadband prices to fall with the entry of the PSUs into service arena. "The two companies would be able to offer broadband services to a large number of customers in different parts of the country, that too at a competitive price," he said. Earlier in his speech, the minister, who is also in charge of the information technology portfolio, said that he would assist other ministries, departments and the state governments to implement e-Governance projects in various sectors. "My ministry will act as a facilitator in the transformation process we are all talking about," he said. Maran said that the country should avail of the benefits from the domestic software industry. "We must fully use the large oasis of IT skills existing in the country to come out with world class products," he said.

Guys, I understand that this topic shall eventually lead to CLONING! But as Beetle rightly pointed out, we shall not allow such a discussion on the board, as of now. But this piece of information that sklm has provided can be used in a simple and neat manner without falling into any trouble. As Vishal mentioned, no harm in knowin what software has Sklm used to read the file structure of FWP. That could lead us to better things rather than just Cloning.

The Do's and Don'ts of Posting on RIMweb The easiest way to learn what's acceptable on Rimweb.com is by watching how others use it. Once you've read a few hundred posts and witnessed a few flame wars erupt, you should get a feel for what's appropriate and what's not. To help you get there a bit faster (and to make sure you don't unintentionally set off a flame war of your own), we've included some basic tips that will help you fit into our community more easily. Never forget that the person on the other side is human. Because your interaction is through a computer it is easy to forget that there are people "out there." Situations arise in which emotions erupt into a verbal free-for-all that can lead to hurt feelings. Please remember that people all over the world are reading your words. Do not attack people if you cannot persuade them with your presentation of the facts. If you are upset at something or someone, wait until you have had a chance to calm down and think about it. Try not to say anything to others you would not say to them in person in a room full of people. Don't assume that a person is speaking for their organization. Many people who post to Rimweb.com do so from machines at their office or workplace. Despite that, never assume that the person is speaking for the organization that they are posting their articles from (unless the person explicitly says so). Some people put explicit disclaimers to this effect in their messages, but this is a good general rule. If you find an article offensive, consider taking it up with the person directly, or ignoring it. Be careful what you say about others. You read these posts; so do millions of other people. This group quite possibly includes people you know and care about. Information posted on the net can come back to haunt you or the person you are talking about. Think twice before you post personal information about yourself or others. Posting personal information even in the most innocuous topics can be extremely hazardous. If you don't want it known by a large segment of the world's population, don't post it. Be brief. Never say in ten words what you can say in fewer. The longer you make your article, the fewer people will bother to read it. Write well. Most people on Rimweb.com will know you only by what you say and how well you say it. Take the time to make sure your posting will not embarrass you later. Minimize spelling errors and make sure the article is easy to read and understand. Avoid the temptation to WRITE IN ALL CAPS when you want to make a point. Writing is an art that requires practice. You are your words on Rimweb.com. Choose them carefully. Use descriptive topic titles. The topic title enables a person with limited time to decide whether or not to read your article. A title like "Help me with my LG2030" posted to Tech Forum doesn't convey as much as "Error 166 while connecting to USB Port". Keep your subjects short and to the point. Think about your audience. When you post an article, think about the people you are trying to reach. Asking LG2030 questions on Samsung Handset Forum will not reach as many of the people you want to reach as if you asked them on LG Handsets Forum. Try to get the most appropriate audience for your message, not the widest. It is considered bad form to post to a general interest Forum and then post the same message to some other, more targeted Forum. If it belongs in the targeted forum, it does not belong in the broader one. Be careful with humor and sarcasm. Without the voice inflections and body language of personal communications, it is easy for a remark meant to be funny to be misinterpreted. Subtle humor tends to get lost, so take steps to make sure that people realize you are trying to be funny. The net has developed symbols called emoticons to help convey emotions. A common one is :-) for a smiley face (look at it sideways) which should be interpreted as 'this is meant to be funny'. Be aware that frequently satire is posted without any explicit warnings. If you find an article outrageous, ask yourself if it may be intentionally inflammatory. Don't post a self-righteous rebuttal if you suspect someone is just fishing for users with low humor thresholds. Only post a message once. Avoid posting messages to more than one topic unless you are sure it is appropriate. Summarize what you are following up. When you follow up an existing post, Rimweb.com includes the full article in quotes, with the cursor at the top of the article. Tempting though it is to just start typing your message, please STOP and do two things first. Look at the quoted text and delete parts that are irrelevant. Then, go to the BOTTOM of the article and start typing there. Doing this makes it much easier for your readers to get through your post. They'll have a reminder of the relevant text before your comment, but won't have to re-read the entire article. And if your reply appears on a site before the original article does, they'll get the gist of what you're talking about. Cite appropriate references. If you are using facts to support a cause, state where they came from. Don't take someone else's ideas and use them as your own. You don't want someone pretending that your ideas are theirs; show them the same respect. For example, much of this FAQ was derived from a post that has been widely disseminated across Usenet. You can find that post here. Please do not use Rimweb.com as an advertising medium. Advertisements on Rimweb.com are rarely appreciated. In general, the louder or more inappropriate the ad is, the more antagonism it stirs up. Just think how annoying it is to you to have your evening meal interrupted by a telemarketer. The feeling is the same when someone posts inappropriate commercial messages in a forum. If in doubt, don't do it. Avoid posting to multiple forums. Few things annoy Rimweb.com readers as much as multiple copies of a posting appearing in multiple forums (called "spamming"). Discussions related to CLONING is BANNED. Please note that all topics related to 'cloning' has been removed from the forum since we have received alerts from authorities about the illegal nature of the topic. So please do not post anything related to cloning/esn/min in the forum in future. All emails and PMs sent through the forum are also being monitored. This guide is adapted from the very helpful "A Primer on How to Work With the Usenet Community" by Chuq Von Rospach.

Reliance beta tests in the US Jonathan Sreekumaran Email Print July 30, 2004 Techtree.com A source from Reliance told us about the company having a calling service called Reliance India Call. The calling service is an international long distance calling service. Reliance has a telecom network starting from its hubs in Los Angeles/New York all the way to a Reliance wireline or wireless user here. Even calls to non-Reliance customers will be carried on the Reliance network. Also customers can retain their existing long distance service provider for all other long distance calls. Reliance has also offered users a pre-paid or a post-paid connection. Their prepaid service is designed to meet all the needs of their customers who prefer to buy calling cards. Reliance claims to offer far superior service to those offered by calling card providers. They also claim have no hidden charges i.e. no connection charges, no monthly minimum, no account maintenance fees etc. Users are charged 11.9 cents a minute. Payment options that match one's needs are also offered. Payment options: Prepaid - Voucher denominations: $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, $ 200 - No monthly fee Pay after Use - Monthly fee of $1.95 - Monthly billing cycle The service is available to users, mostly NRIs, in the USA and a rumoured Canada. Another source told us that once Reliance is established in the US and in Canada, they plan to start the same service in Australia and the UK. Reliance has not publicised this service in India as yet and an official source told us that the service was in a beta stage in the US.

Alrite heres the entire Version name PRL : 1 S: N191.WH09 H:N191.51 One more added feature i found in this version than the earlier 1 tht i had. Earlier, to get the name displayed for a GSM No. Entry, i had to save the no. in both National (098XXXX) and International (009198XXXX) format such that the name is displayed when i recieve a call and an SMS. Now by jus saving the No. in International Format, the no. is displayed both while getting a call n an SMS!! This thing was missing in my earlier version!

Doesn't work for me! I'll try it again later in the day!
