There is one such option on TATA's website for their Indi mobiles www.tataindicom.com But not for Reliance at their website! Wish they start it... coz its quite a cumbersome job to search on R-World especially when there are quite a lot of entries found and displays an error "Too many Entries" !!

Wasn't sure whether u guys knew abt it... hence posting here... Well, I got my sis' Samsung N191 phone upgraded yesterday. Will let u'll know the exact description of the version. But if my memory is good it was S: N191.WH09 The Service Center dude says that earlier version had a bug. The phone wudn't vibrate when any Landline or GSM subscriber called. Now tht bug has been rectified in the new version! check it up!
-
And this same feature/bug isn't for the Missed Calls (LG2030)! How dumb!
-
Anyways, STD is avl free of cost on RIMs w/o any deposits.. so whts the hassle? And yeh there might be a problem coz it wont work like landlines anymore. But if my frnd is not wrong, he says tht he cud call all IDEA Cell phones in MAH without "0" from his landline in VASAI. So i think tht shud hold true for BSNL as well as MTNL and RELIANCE in the future!

China says goodbye to dial telephones July 25, 2004 17:55 IST Rediff.com China on Sunday said goodbye to 'dial telephones' when the last such unit was replaced with a state-of-the-art wireless unit in a remote Tibetan village, the state media reported. The old telephones, operated by rotating a disk with numbered holes, had been used at Menzhong village in Nedong County of Tibet since 1974, Xinhua news agency reported from Lhasa, the regional capital. China Telecom, the country's leading telecom carrier, has invested US $17 million to set telephone networks to realise that all the 683 counties and towns in Tibet are able to communicate with outside by wireless telephone. Around 17,800 families have joined the network since its launch in 2003. During the January-June period, 68 million Chinese households added telephones, with 33 million taking fixed lines and 35.33 million subscribing to cell phones. Fixed telephone users and cell phone users in China now total to 295 million and 305 million respectively, the Ministry of Information Industry has said.

Truly speaking the inbox size is for jus 29 msgs! I've saved 29 msgs in each of my SENT and UNSENT Folders and am still able to keep 29 msgs in the INBOX. As ARUN mentioned, after recieving the 23rd msg, u'll get a WARNING showing "MEMORY is xx% FULL" but u can still stretch upto 29 msgs. Once 29 msgs are there in ur INBOX and after that if theres any msg waiting to be delivered to ur inbox from the network, a msg reading "MESSAGE WAITING, please make space in your inbox" shall be displayed time and again, until u make space!

Qualcomm upbeat on its R&D centre in Hyderabad BS Regional Bureau in Hyderabad | July 24, 2004 10:14 IST Rediff.com California-based Qualcomm Incorporated, the world's largest provider of code division multiple access technology, has indicated that the proposed research and development centre in Hyderabad was under consideration and details of this would be announced in the next couple of months. Rishi Dhingra, director (business development), Qualcomm India, said that the company was evaluating the project and a decision was expected in about two to three months. The R&D centre would be the first centre that the company will be setting up in India. According to Rishi Dhingra, CDMA, which was finding wide applications among telecom companies in the country, could be upgraded to offer third-generation services as the International Telecommunication Union's global standard for 3G wireless communication was based on CDMA technology. "The 3G networks have the ability to support both data and voice streaming with great efficiency by optimal use of spectrum. While operators are increasingly finding new ways of enhancing their ARPUs (average revenue per user)," Dhingra said. "Operators are finding that only voice-based services are not generating adequate revenues and are seeking ways to offer data streaming which has a great potential for growth as eCommerce spreads," he added. He said that as the number of people moving across various networks increases, inter-operability between these distinct networks would be a key aspect for access. Dhingra said that though the number of manufacturers at present producing these world phones are less at present, this number would go up as the demand in increases.

Tata, Reliance in race to buy Tyco Global BS Corporate Bureau | July 23, 2004 08:27 IST Rediff.com The race to acquire the US-based Tyco Global Network is gaining speed, with both Tata and Reliance Infocomm having either conducted due diligence or are in the process of doing so. While the Tata run-Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd has completed the valuation of assets and has also looked at the books of Tyco, Reliance Infocomm executives are understood to have winged their way to the US recently. A public relations agency that represents the Tatas refused to comment. A Reliance Infocomm spokesman was also silent on the matter. But Businessweek Online had reported that Tyco Global Network was v1alued at $3.5 billion during the height of the telecom boom in the late 1990s, and quoted an unidentified source saying VSNL was "looking hard, onsite, and doing due diligence". According to the magazine, the source added that VSNL was considering a price in the low "$200 million range". VSNL, Businessweek Online said, had lots of inbound capacity but lacked outbound bandwidth. It quoted Tata executive Firdaus Vandravala saying VSNL, which was building a submarine cable from Chennai to Singapore, did not have enough international capacity. "Tyco will give us global bandwidth and both Pacific and Atlantic capacity," he had said. Tyco Global Network is the undersea cable business of US-based Tyco International. According to industry sources here, four companies had been shortlisted from the eight that had submitted initial price band indications for Tyco Global Networks' assets. VSNL and Reliance Infocomm are among the shortlisted companies. The other companies that bid for Tyco Global include Singapore Technologies, the California-based Trinity Ventures and the US-based Pivotal Private Equity. Investment banker Goldman Sachs has been roped in to auction Tyco Global. A source close to the development said, "The entire process will take at least three months, with the bidders concluding due diligence, submitting a final bid and getting approval from the shareholders of Tyco." The Reliance group had acquired Flag Telecom and has been expanding its global networking capacity ever since. It has also planned Falcon, an undersea cable to connect Eqypt in the west and Hong Kong in the east. On the other hand, VSNL will be able to get a worldwide link for its own traffic if it gets Tyco's 60,000 km-long fibre undersea business, which includes trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific cables. Besides, Tata Indicom's Chennai-Singapore undersea cable will also get ready access to customers on the trans-Pacific route. Earlier, VSNL had also shown interest in Flag Telecom's Europe-Asia cable and had bid $180 million for it. However, it withdrew as Flag Telecom was up for sale and the asking price was too high.

Did ur frnd recieve the MMS directly on his/her handset? Or he/she got some key to read MMS on some website? If he/she cud read the MMS on his/her handset, which handset was he/she using??
-
If u notice, when u send an MMS to a HUTCH or Orange mobile phone, tht user recieves an SMS which reads "you have recd an MMS from 022XXXXXX. To read ur MMS please visit http://mms.hutchworld.co.in and enter the following key. ur Key = xxxxxx " This happens in phones which aren't MMS enabled. And same shud be the case in FWP. The only difference is that Reliance has still not fully integrated its services for MMS with all other operators and hence it isn't publicising its MMS website, n therefore u might not get the link of their website in the SMS recd on FWP. Jus try exploring more with it in ur free time, n hope u reach somewhere!

ppl here were initially talking abt RIM n not RIP ! finally they ended up talking abt MTNL.. but i guess u cannot compare RIM with MTNL ! Try comparing RIP with MTNL, n u'd find that RIP still stands a winner! Anyways, R-connect rates is all a matter of "hair-pulling" till we see true Broadband here in India... Wait n watch is the only thing which we can do!

I tried sending an MMS to my email address... Guess wht? The "FROM" name was jus my mobile no. i.e. 02234XXXXXX and not like wht wud come earlier; such as 02234xxxxxxx@mms.ricmail.com !! Guess they've found out tht ppl tried tampering wid their servers!

Does tht mean that both the R-Connect Plans for POSTPAID customers are open as of now? i.e. @40p/min + 200(Rental) & Re. 1/min +0 Rental As far as tht article on the top goes, it seems as if the old plan stands withdrawn! Can somebody confirm this? If u read this above, it means tht if u reactivate R-Connect after July 9, u automatically get the new plan... So finally, is the old plan still in existence?

60 bucks an hr Worth a laugh!! I thought Reliance was making Internet reach each n every home! With 60 bucks/hr wht r they trying to achieve?
-
Its not whether Reliance knows how many of its users are ICICI acc. holders !! They cant actually find out the statistics so easily. But its simply that ICICI is almost the No. 1 or No. 2 Bank in a short span of time in India ! So obviously, by permutations, most RIM customers wud have ICICI accounts! In future they'd start many more services linked to most other banks, etc... They r quite good at such things!

DAPO users who've paid Upfront 21000 will get a credit of Rs. 6350/- Same goes for ppl who've opted for Plan 6350 while going for DAPO and have paid Rs. 6350/- to get the connection. Hence the phone is avl to u for Rs. 12001 - 6350 = Rs. 5651/- !! It isn't much, and even am waiting to earn a few bucks such that i can be a proud owner myself! But will have to wait for another 5 months till my course gets over n i start earning myself!!
