I have been following a certain order of saving phone nos. on my phone for the last 1 yr, and never had any trouble ever. Rarely wud the name be not displayed. In the Mobile field i save the no. as 098XXX XXXXX In the Fax Field I save the same as 009198XXX XXXXX And i set the Mobile field as the default No. This helps me for incoming calls and Incoming SMS. Moreover helps me, to dial the same nos. during roaming as well. Certain times, the no. might be displayed as 98XXX XXXXX or 09198XXX XXXXX but tht happens quite rarely!

Consumers Not Quite Ready To "Cut the Cord" June 24, 2004 INSTAT SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - While consumer research from In-Stat/MDR clearly shows that consumers that use wireless phones have significantly decreased their wireline phone usage for both local and long distance service, the high-tech market research firm finds that most consumers are not interested in "cutting the cord" and replacing their landline altogether. In-Stat/MDR believes that there are a myriad of factors that go into the decision to become totally mobile and that if offered the option to have both wireline and wireless services as part of one rate plan, consumers might take it -- particularly those older than 25. "While the number of people subscribing to wireless services is growing, it does not provide the same type of experience, or more importantly, the same quality of service, as wireline local phone service," says Amy Cravens, a Senior Analyst at In-Stat/MDR. "Furthermore, among those that do subscribe to wireless service, a relatively small percent are willing to give up their wireline, residential phone service." Cravens believes that consumers still value the capabilities and reliability of a traditional landline phone. However, traditional wireline providers must not lie on their laurels. As consumers are faced with real dollar decisions, the economics of paying for what is perceived as two similar services may cause some to convert to wireless. A recent In-Stat/MDR survey has also found that: There are clear distinctions of behavior depending on the age of respondents, the younger the respondent, the more likely to "cut the cord." However, customers that "cut the cord" today, may reconnect to the landline services later in life as their priorities change. Convenience was the number one stated reason, on average, for considering canceling wireline services, suggesting the cutting the cord is really about mobility -- not necessarily just price. While both wireline and wireless calls tended to be more local than long distance, the proportion of long distance calls was higher among wireless calls. Verizon/Verizon Wireless was the only provider to consistently be ranked among the top three providers, in terms of respondents subscribing to their service for local, long distance, and wireless phone service. Verizon was the most frequently selected provider for local and wireless phone service, and the third most frequently selected provider for long distance.

Spokane claims wireless 'hot zone' Largest wireless Internet area Wednesday, June 23, 2004 Posted: 9:47 PM EDT (0147 GMT) CNN.com SPOKANE, Washington (AP) -- With the flip of a symbolic switch Wednesday, 100 blocks of downtown Spokane got wireless access to the Internet. City officials and private developers activated what they call the largest deployment of wireless Internet coverage, also known as Wi-Fi, in any urban area in the United States. "A lot of communities have hot spots," said Jim West, mayor of the city of 200,000. "We have a hot zone." The zone uses new technology that allows Internet signals to be transmitted more than a mile, far beyond the traditional 200- to 300-foot range of Wi-Fi antennas. City officials put the cost of the project, which requires just a few antennas atop buildings, at between $50,000 and $75,000. The Wi-Fi zone is divided into a private network for use by the city and an open network for the public. The public users can connect for two hours a day at no charge, and subscription plans are in the works for extended use, said Chad Skidmore, president of OneEighty Networks, the company that provided the networking for the project. The city helped build the network for its own use. Meter maids will write and print parking tickets on the network using handheld devices. Police officers will use wireless devices to run license plate checks, cutting out the step of calling in numbers to a dispatcher by radio. Vivato, a San Francisco-based company with a research and development center in Spokane, uses technology similar to that used with cellular telephones to transmit Wi-Fi signals throughout the downtown zone. Most cities that attempt to give blanket coverage to an area use a point-to-point system that links hundreds of antennas. Spokane accomplishes its coverage using fewer than 10 antennas. City officials hope the investment will attract high-tech businesses that could take advantage of the wireless zone. Spokane, like many other cities, has lost thousands of high-tech jobs in recent years. The Free usage for abt 2 hrs a day is quite an interesting feature! Anything beyond that cud be charged! wht say? -
Its basically to make frenz. heard of www.hi5.com ? all quite similar.

LG Mobile Phones Grabs Top Spot in the US CDMA Handset Market Telecom Direct June 23, 2004 SAN DIEGO -- According to a recently released mobile phone market share study from research and analyst firm IDC, LG Mobile Phones won the largest share of the U.S. CDMA handset market in the first quarter of 2004, selling more than three million units to corner 26.8 percent of the market. The nearest competitor emerged with 20.6 percent of the market share, giving LG a significant victory in the first months of 2004. "Following our CDMA market share victory in 2003, in which LG leapt from third place to first in one short year, we are pleased to hear that our continued hard work is rewarded with another impressive showing in the mobile handset marketplace," said Juno Cho, president, LG Mobile Phones. "However, we are even more gratified that our products continue to appeal to a wide-range of consumers, providing them with the high level of quality they require, along with the advanced features that keep them coming back for upgrades and new developments." One of the major factors contributing to LG's continued victory in the CDMA space is its successful relationship with leading national carrier Verizon Wireless. According to IDC, the popular LG VX6000 camera phone continued to sell well in Q1 2004, and the newly introduced VX4500 handset proved immediately popular. In addition to its first-place finish among CDMA handset sales, LG was ranked third in overall market share for Q1 of 2004, ahead of competitors Samsung and Kyocera, according to results from IDC's Worldwide Mobile Phone Qview program. In addition to its significant successes in the CDMA marketplace and overall handset sales figures, LG's focused initiative to gain GSM market share came to fruition as the company rose in IDC's rankings and entered the list of the top six leading GSM manufacturers in the U.S. LG's GSM global market share has steadily increased since 2001, and the Q1 2004 visible growth in the GSM market has the company poised to continue its major expansion into the U.S. GSM space. "Establishing a presence in the GSM market was one LG's top-line priorities for 2003, and continues to be a major priority into 2004," said Jonathan Maron, director of marketing for LG Mobile Phones. "The successful debuts of the G4010 and G4050 for Cingular Wireless and the G4011 for AT&T Wireless have built momentum for LG in the GSM market, and have laid the foundation for winning a significantly larger portion of the GSM market share over the course of 2004."

Text Messaging for Patient Care Telecom Direct June 23, 2004 Physicians may soon be able to check on a patient's status after a hospital stay by text messaging the person's mobile phone. Researchers at Reply-planeT, an Italian communications services provider, and the Istituto Nazionale Tumori, a research hospital in Milan, have developed and tested a wireless patient monitoring system that could help doctors detect a patient's current condition at a distance. Keeping up-to-date on a patient's condition once the person has left the hospital can help doctors to detect problems earlier and pursue any necessary intervention. "The wide and growing use of mobile phones and the Internet by the general population provides important new methods for communication between doctor and patient," wrote the researchers in the medical journal BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making. The team's Wireless Health Outcomes Monitoring System (WHOMS) could reduce the need to use printed questionnaires for monitoring patients' health and quality of life, making doctor-patient communication faster and easier. The system allows physicians to send short questionnaires to patients' mobile phones. Patients can answer the questions using their phone keypad and then return the completed form to the physicians without leaving their chair or bed. The results are collated automatically and presented to the physician on a secure Web page. A graphic display gives doctors a quick overview of the patient's condition. If a patient has seriously modified symptoms, a flashing signal will appear by the person's name. To test whether their system would work in the real world, the researchers asked all 97 cancer in-patients at the Istituto Nazionale Tumori--with the exception of those who had just had surgery and those who had visible physical impairments--to fill in a short survey using their mobile phone. All of the patients that attempted to complete the ten-question survey about their state of health did so successfully. "This confirmed the user-friendliness of the system for people familiar with modern communication technologies," claim the researchers. However, 42 percent of the patients asked to participate in the study refused, mostly due to inexperience with using mobile phones. This was a larger percentage than the researchers had expected, but they hope that this figure might be reduced if a patients could get help from family members or if other channels of communication, such as the Internet, were incorporated into the system. "We are currently introducing modifications aimed at improving the system," wrote the researchers. "In particular we are investigating multi-channel approaches so that we can offer WHOMS functions through Palm computers and interactive voice responders to provide a better interface and a wider choice for patients."

Invariably its said tht CDMA phones take up more battery than GSM phones. But moreover, with features like R-Connect / R-World and lots of things to play wid in the phone, we end up overusing the phone's battery initially. These days my RD2030 works for almost 2 whole days. Its jus based on ur usage. Initially it used to last only few hrs for me!

If u have some substantial no. of subscribers in the corporate plan, then RIM would give u better tariffs than the regular ones. Otherwise, there is absolutely no difference!

Same here. My scene is that my fone has been accidentally registered as a corporate connection wherein i can get more connections in the same account. So their bills are not viewable on the site! I hope to find some way to recify this!
