Dot Rings Mobile Number Portability
Himanshu Singh replied to coolrajiv's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
MNP in metros should kick in by April is my guess. Lets see. But whenever that happens lots of strategies of all telcos might fall flat. It would be an interesting time to watch out for. -

Thats good news. Another limitation of CDMA being done away with. I remember all the troubles I had to take to save all my numbers to new CDMA sim on the same phone.

Vodafone (mumbai) Introduces Unlimited Sms Pack And Night Call Plan
Himanshu Singh replied to Mukeshlst's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
1.Well I am not angry with Reliance dude, I am angry at myself for putting too much brain into their problem. I should have switched over to my other numbers the day this problem started. 2.At least you agree I am not at fault for being cross with Reliance. But you are wrong to say that Reliance is not at fault? If only they could anticipate such problems they would not have been in a tearing hurry to launch sms packs.I was happy with my Rs.25 sms coupon for 1000 local sms. 3.You sounded unbelievable when you said these 'small problems' can be rectified in a 'few months'.Who would wait for a few months? If you had to face such problems for 15 days I am sure you would start using your alternate number which I am sure you have. 4.I will take you down the memory lane. Which was the first operator which reduced its base STD tariff to Rs.1.5 from Rs.2.4? Airtel. Reliance did so after a few weeks. So breaking new grounds is not a monopoly of Reliance as you may like to believe. 5.You are right when you say that roaming sms were charged@Rs.3.5/sms till May 2009. But the charges were reduced after TRAI's recommendations. It was not done because of any competition.TRAI had asked for cut in roaming sms rates in NOV/DEC.2008. 6.I dont know how did you reach the conclusion that 'Airtel and Vodafone have lower roaming customers than Reliance'. 7.I get your logic that when customers increase it would lead to network congestion and service quality would drop. But why should the customer suffer because the Service provider has got lot of subscribers? And have you ever heard a company facing this kind of 'small problem' for 15 days at a stretch? 8.I agree the biggies are behind delay in MNP. But are you or even people at Rcom sure that once MNP kicks in lot of Airtel/Vodafone users will switch over to Rcom? Would I be wrong to think that all the tariff moves(Simple plans for calls and sms) by Rcom was in anticipation of MNP so that it could retain its customers? No other telco is in so hurry to reduce its charges so steeply? Would that not mean people at Rcomm are aware of the fact that a lot of customers may leave them as would users of other operators? 9.If you are hoping that the delay in implementation of MNP would give Rcomm time to sort out its network, would other telcos also not improve their services and networks? What makes you hope only Rcomm will improve its network? 10.Is it because you think it has the biggest challenge to improve its network? 11.Rcomm(CDMA+GSM) has the highest amount of spectrum in India in my opinion. But RGSM is pathetic in Delhi-NCR. I cant comment on other circles. Rcdma had been plagued by sms problems for a 'small period' of 15 days. -

Aircel Excellent Recharges For Delhi
Himanshu Singh replied to Himanshu Singh's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
@Amit, With the postpaid plan for Rcomm you are talking about, for 1500 local calls you would pay Rs.750 and for 49 std calls you would pay Rs.24.5 which totals upto Rs.774.5 which after taxes would be Rs.854 and which is Rs.355 more than Aircel for the same calls. And if you need 5000 local calls(God forbid) and 99 std mins, your bill would run into a few thoudands. Finally prepaid and postpaid should never be compared for variety of reasons. -

MNP has been held back by the biggies. All new entrants want MNP to kick in at the earliest. -
Vodafone (mumbai) Introduces Unlimited Sms Pack And Night Call Plan
Himanshu Singh replied to Mukeshlst's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Atleast Vodafone users would not shift to Rcomm for cheap sms. They got an alternative even if its costly. Vodafone would surely make money out of this scheme and boost its ARPUs, not sure about the same for Rcomm. -
Reliance Looking To Sell Off Flag Network: Reports
Himanshu Singh replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Communications
As I recollect Rcomm wants to sell of Yipes as well. Rcomm should have done what Tata did for GSM expansion. They should have taken on board some foreign partner. I am sure Rgsm could have been spared the sorry state of affairs it is in at the moment. -

Gave Up Reliance Communication For MTS
Himanshu Singh replied to Himanshu Singh's topic in Miscellaneous
It sure did. If my memory serves me right, Reliance launched its SIMPLE plans 2 days ahead of MTS launch in Delhi. I use Idea(09891113730), Vodafone( 09582317231), Aircel(09716688878),MTNL(09868170223),Virgin(09268723570), RCDMA(09313193174),RGSM(08010236018) and MTS(09136289149).So I would like to think I know a thing or two about service quality. Its anyways a common knowledge that GSM is better than CDMA when it comes to smsing. But RCDMA took it to the lowest levels in last 13 days. I will use RCDMA AND RGMS only when they are uo and running. Till then I am happy using my galaxy of a few numbers. -

Well I have time on my side, I am just 23 years old. Let me learn from my own experience. I prefer it that way. And you are right people should shift out of Reliance so that others can use it and keep the ARPUs at Rs.92 and even less. I dont think its going to go up by much if people move out. -

Any amount of research wont take away the problems that me and several others have been facing since Dec.8 with respect to smsming. How do you explain that? How do you explain the poor state of RGSM when calls made frm Rgsm dont even get connected after 6 in evening? Tell me one instance that any company has taken this long to fix such problems? I would gladly take their advice. No wonder someone having more than 50 numbers would take your position. Its no surprise now to me!!! -

Gave Up Reliance Communication For MTS
Himanshu Singh replied to Himanshu Singh's topic in Miscellaneous
If its not launched in your state, you wont get it for even 1 Crore. And who is persuading you or anyone else to take MTS? I merely posted my bad experience with Reliance CDMA in Delhi.(For bad experiences related to sms from people from other circles you would be better advised to read another thread thats running in Reliance prepaid cdma titled "RCDMA GSM network in mess in Delhi NCR". Its a free country and we are free to use any operator. One cant help if people are emotionally attached to any provider. -

Baba Even reliance was pathetic during its early days. I remember going to my native place at Bihar and no network till as late as 2007. And mind you by 2007 it boasted of network everywhere. -
Gave Up Reliance Communication For MTS
Himanshu Singh replied to Himanshu Singh's topic in Miscellaneous
Well I made an observation of coverage and signal strength throughout yesterday(near Delhi cantt, Vasant Kunj, Vasant Vihar, RK Puram, Nehru place, Sheikh Sarai, Green park,Dwarka etc) and boy I dint miss RCDMA a bit. If Rcom anticipated that launching such cheap sms packs would lead to a lot of churn in market,I would have to admit they were right but only so. I shifted away from them after 5 years.(I had taken my first RCDMA number way back on September 11,2004).So its only Rcom which I find responsible for my churn. I guess people can stick with a service provider only till and if they are given quality not otherwise. -
