Tata Indicom Shops Are Closing In Kerala
Himanshu Singh replied to KAPILKDEV's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
I have seen a tata shop being closed near my area some 2 months ago in Delhi as well. -
I think when I use the extension wire for HSD modem speed reduces drastically.. And when I directly plug the modem into port I get average of 1.5Mbps.. Is it true or just a coincidence?

Thank you.

Plz Suggest A Basic Gsm Phone
Himanshu Singh replied to anuragz's topic in General Technical Discussion
I would suggest Samsung Guru series for low end phones.. I bought 2 Samsung E 1160@Rs.1800 each in January.. The red and black colour combination is eye catching.. The battery lasts 5 days in my dad's hands.. The earpiece/speaker phone volume is loud.. The ringtones are really loud.. The fm is wirefree and thats also a good thing.. The keypad is of rubber which I find easy to use.. I think I have not been able to add to the ringtones that come with the phone.. I would love to do that if possible.. But overall a great phone for its price.. -

Govt Bans Sms For Postpaid Mobile Users In J&k
Himanshu Singh posted a topic in Indian Telecom / General News
The government on Friday banned short message service (SMS) for postpaid subscribers in Jammu and Kashmir while restricting the facility for prepaid users from midnight tonight due to security concerns. The Department of Telecom has asked all the 12 operators, including state-owned BSNL and other private players like Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Essar, to withdraw text message service to their postpaid users in J&K altogether. "In case of existing post-paid users, the service should be withdrawn immediately," a statement from DoT said. In case of prepaid subscribers, the facility has been restricted to 10 SMSes per day per subscriber. "SMS messages originated outside J&K service area in India and from the networks of International Long Distance (ILD) operators should not be delivered to mobile subscribers in J&K service area," the statement said. The operators have also been asked to immediately stop all tariff packages offering free SMS service. -

Dot Asks S Tel To Stop Services On Security Concerns
Himanshu Singh posted a topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
S Tel, a joint venture between Chennai-based Siva Group and Bahrain Telecom (Batelco), has been directed to immediately stop its mobile services in Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and Orissa, citing national security concerns. The company has licences for Himachal Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Assam circles but is operational only in the three circles. The company has a user base of over eight lakh. Sources in the Department of Telecom said the company has been asked to stop services in all these three states. Batelco, which has 42.7 per cent stake in S Tel, has entered into a partnership with Bahrain-based Islamic investment bank Global Banking Corporation, which in turn will acquire 11 per cent stake in S Tel for $50 million. GBC buying 11 per cent in S Tel will indirectly raise Batelco's stake in S Tel by 6.3 per cent to 49 per cent. When contacted, the company confirmed of having received an order asking to stop "voice and SMS services" till further clarification. "We have received the letter. We are also surprised by this kind of letter especially after the government gave us permission on December 11 and 21 last year to launch services," P Swaminathan, Director, Siva Group said. "We are trying to ascertain specific facts which are behind the national security concerns," he said. S Tel is sharing the whole infrastructure with existing operators and has decided not to put up any tower of its own. -
