Hutch is surely costly. I dont use SMS much but their offers ****. My friend uses Hutch in Karnatak and he has this awesome offer where he just pays 30 bucks rental and gets 3000SMSes free! And here we are...paying 50p per SMS for on net traffic while 1Re for offnet :/ that too local!

Yeah, MTNL is charging waay too much. But I guess they will bring down their prices after a few months. Airtel is coming up in a big way in Mumbai and its already well established in Delhi. I dont think customers would want to go in for MTNL in Delhi or Mumbai if airtel is low cost, better customer service and gives good speeds.

If you're using Linux as a router then you better install MRTG. It will rock your pants off! BTW Linux is NOT a poor mans router. Linux / UNIX are best suited as router OSes. I've been using a P1 166MHz with 128MB RAM as a webserver, router, file server, p2p server, firewall, IDS and what not for a long time now

Arun, modem rental is only for the people who take the modem. Otherwise it will be waived off. I think my netgear router has a built in ADSL client. Dunno though. If not I'll buy one. I am itching to get this plan! When will they launch it in Mumbai (MTNL Ofcourse!).

Why dont you BSNL guys ask the CC or the exchange? Some people are being allowed while others aren't. Possibly due to misinformation from BSNL's side.

I have recently converted from prepaid to post paid. I was offered a good deal by Hutch where they waived off the monthly rental for CLIP for lifetime. Now the problem is that their billing system is so flaky that it shows me unrealistic numbers all the time i.e. On 28th April my bill amount was Rs.5 and on 29th I expected it to be 26 bucks. Well sometimes it used to show me the correct amount but sometimes it showed me amounts like Rs.167 or 1030 :/ Their helpline was of no use. But after a while it would again show the correct amount. As I understand they have some problems updating their bills. I wanted to know whether there is some way by which I can "FORCE" the system to update my bill? Since I was a prepaid customer I am used to checking my balance after every few calls but Hutch doesn't provide realtime billing. Dunno why. Does anyone have some numbers / codes which I can try so that I know my _current_ bill amount? I am in Mumbai if that helps.

They charged me 16 bucks for SMSes I sent to "Application" when I never sent a SINGLE SMS. The fact is that I simply use SMS to get my account info i.e. I send BILL to 111 thats it. I dont SMS anybody. I just call up.

theKing, Gaim allows you to USE AS MANY IDS AS YOU WANT ***SIMULTANEOUSLY***. You can be logged in as abc, def, ghi, jkl in yahoo and mno, pqr, stu in MSN, vwx, yz in AIM AT THE SAME TIME. And its supports a hell lot of protocols. Why dont you just see the website that I gave you before asking such useless questions?

KavitaB, it might be that the DHCP lease on your IP is expiring too frequently. Firstly make sure that the settings are correct on your comp. Then call up reliance and tell them about this problem.

abhay, I am moderately active on broadbandforum.in's board. The fact remains that there is no official announcement from BSNL yet. BTW MTNL's delhi site does mention the plan in a small corner. They dont have the details but ATLEAST its mentioned. I am hopeful that MTNL Mumbai will reduce the cost of their unlimited 256K plan to about 700-800 bucks.

abhay, MTNL has already started its unlimited package in Delhi. But the cost is too much. I think its Rs.1399 without taxes. Its unaffordable by the common person. BTW this news about BSNL is still unconfirmed. Believe it only AFTER they have publicised it OFFICIALLY.

Anyone has an idea where/whom can we contact to find out exactly when Airtel Broadband is going to be operational in our building? I've been waiting eagerly for Airtel BB in Mumbai for a long time now and they are taking a very very long time to become operational in our area. I want to know names / numbers of local managers of Airtel with whom I can speak. Their CC is pathetic and they wont give me their local managers' numbers!
