Erm...I know those frequencies. Thats why I was a bit confused. I always thought CDMA operated at higher frequencies than GSM...
-
dude, seeing is believing. I will believe it when i see sexygurl

the article doesn mention anything about tarrifs. Nothing to rejoice about!
-
Oh yeah, dr.rEdshiFt please dissect a bear and show us!
-
I doubt CDMA operates at 800MHz frequency range. I think they operate at higher frequencies - 1800 or 1900MHz

duh! I know. But the bills are deducted directly from her bank account. She doesn't pay via the CC. Thats the reason shes not being charged anything by bill desk

Help Needed! Some Netwroking Problem
linuxguy replied to abhay's topic in General Technical Discussion
abhay, you can run the webserver on the MTNL IP and surf the internet on the Sify IP. That can be done without a problem. But then data exchange on the MTNL IP will be counted and since you have a limit, you might exhaust your limit pretty quickly if your webserver hosts big files Guys, the problem with running a webserver on the Sify IP is that abhay is NATed behind the router's IP. For example: Sify's router -> External NIC = 212.x.x.x Internal NIC: 10.0.0.1 Now, all customers connect to Sify's internal NIC which means they all have IPs in the range 10.0.0.2-10.0.0.254. Sify's router handles authentication, DHCP and NATing. Since it doesnt port forward all the ports, what happens is that the request sent to the Sify's external IP wont be forwarded to abhay's internal IP. Hence, even if abhay knows the external IP of Sify's servers, it wont be of any use lest sify configures a DMZ or Port forwarding. Sify can setup a DMZ for Abhay or they can forward selective ports to his computer but I dont think they will be willing to do that Life is complicated -
cool. A lesson in "life" science

Help Needed! Some Netwroking Problem
linuxguy replied to abhay's topic in General Technical Discussion
ok lemme explain to you why this is NOT possible. It's not me saying its impossible. It's the TCP/IP protocol. The conversation between a user and your server goes like this. Server IP : 210.x.x.x (MTNL IP, public) Server IP : 10.x.x.x (Sify IP, private) Client: Connect to abhay.no-ip.org DNS: Client, abhay.no-ip.org is 210.x.x.x Client: Connect to 210.x.x.x port 80 Server: Got connection from <Client IP> on interface with IP <210.x.x.x> At this point, your Server has established a TCP socket from your MTNL IP to the Client IP. Now your HTTP server (IIS or Apache) responds to the Client. Server: Sending index.html to IP <Client IP> Server's routing table tries to send through Sify's IP. Client starts getting data from Sify's IP on the same port as your MTNL connection had bound on. Client: WTF? Whats this? I am getting some TCP packets from an unknown source (Your Sify IP). I hadn't sent SYN or SYN ACK. Still checks the current connection in state "ESTABLISHED". Finds no connection was ever established between Sify's IP and it. So... Client: I think this PC (Your Sify IP) has mistakenly sent me the data. So I will just drop all packets... Thats your problem -
shiva, could you make the shadows a bit more prominent?

my mum uses BillDesk. Its free of cost. Atleast for her. Dunno why?

AFAIK the antenna doesn't attach to your cellphone :|

anujit, i did agree on the part that Linux does lack device compatibility but that doesnt mean that you should say it s**ks. The hardware which it does support works like a dream. I have yet to experience a lock up on any of my machines running linux. My routers uptime is better than my ISPs. I can never trust Windows with anything especially my precious data.

OMG! My "secret" is the second post in this thread >_<

uh SexyGurl, I was talking about the cities (metros that too). Never mentioned the villages or other cities. These cities are in dire need of good communication infrastructure. If RIL or other communication giants haven't been able to aggressively spread their network over here then there is _no_ hope for the entire of our country.

Ric Plans A Complete Brand New Image Makeover !
linuxguy replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Communications
I feel they are taking the right steps. After the 'Monsoon hungama' RIM is mostly viewed as a 'trash' brand. Yeah, a brand anybody can easily afford. It's good for a while but the big spenders really dont go in for RIM. They rather go in for Orange despite their heavy tarrifs and restrictions. The reason? Orange is the classiest of all. Even Airtel can't match it. Besides Orange has really focused on quality (though lately they are sloppy in doing business) all throughout their reign in Mumbai. Thats what makes them special and thats what RIM wants now! -
gsmsikar, call up reliance and have THEM install the antenna... You aren't supposed to spend a dime to get their network to come to you!

Help Needed! Some Netwroking Problem

abhay whats wrong with pacenet? AFAIK they give public IP. -
yeah. But thats not it. It's if companies have huge amount of capital to invest. OFCs are very costly. And they need to get digging permissions. Seeing how the govt. and BSNL/MTNL are hand in glove I dont think Airtel, Reliance will get digging orders easily! So its all advantage BSNL and MTNL... Talk about govt. being an impartial body. They are further fuelling monopoly. And I think they forced VSNL to reduce the tarrif just because TATA owns it now. If it were a PSU then I am quite sure they would've doubled or even trippled their tarrifs! We are not going anywhere!

Uh...the only reason IE is the most "widely" used browser because it comes preinstalled with Windoze just like WMP. Corporates, Schools, Colleges and other institutions wont install firefox or other browsers. Why would they? when IE comes preinstalled with Windows? It gets the job done. If M$ removed their ****y browser and gave people a choice I would guarantee you that 90% would use an alternative browser. And Anujit, if Linux s**ks so big time then why are you using FF? They both are the "incompatible" "stupid" "slow" things released by the Open Source community! Oh... or are you just fearing Internet Exploder might just hose your system? Well in that case your precious M$ is here! Why dont you just apply all the latest patches and hope and pray real hard that IE doesn't let in some worm!

Are they uber crazy? Shutting down the network at 2100hrs on new years eve?! We wont be able to make or receive calls OR SMSes! Hutch / Orange wants to start their new year with people destroying Orange / Hutch officies?! :|
-
Ooh. It's worse. Now they say that they wont be getting digging orders any time soon. It might take them more than a year to start laying their cables in our area! :| Can you call up 50012345 and confirm for your area?
-
If thats the case then I am with SexyGurl for OFCs! We want private players to lay OFCs and kick some BSNL A$$!!! :|

Hi people! I have been waiting for reliance broadband to roll out for a long time. I am quite sure that many of you have been awaiting as well. But there are no immediate signs that Reliance is going to provide us with true unlimited broadband. So the next best thing is airtel broadband. I am currently residing in mumbai and i haven't been able to find out whether airtel offers broadband (DSL) services in mumbai. Have you guys heard anything about it? Also, does anyone know whether MTNL is going to offer unlimited downloads with their ADSL connections? Currently the only "unlimited" scheme they have is the Night Unlimited. I really want to shift to a better faster ISP...
-
Guys, any idea when Airtel is officially launching in Mumbai? I've been waiting a LONG time
