1. Need Urgent Help

I would go in for reliance rather than TATA. They just are bad at business. Reliance knows how to do business . Besides, I have had a big row with TATA indicom ( previously Hughes Telecom ). It had gone to such an extent that I was about to send them a legal notice....
2. Samsung X200 Opinions?

ani_meher, thanks a whole bunch for your reply! I was just wondering one thing, when you checked out the phone, did you see if it had the "group sms" or "send to many" facility? Also, which shop quoted you Rs.5050 with bill? The least I have come across is Rs.5200 (haven't bargained yet, just asked them over the phone).
3. Airtel, Orange, Bpl Below Standards

Umm...well, for my needs (which are about Rs.200-300) I think it woud be great.
4. Anti-virus

Right. GNU/Linux isnt ready for the desktop yet. But for enthusiasts like me, its a great OS. No problem in installing stuff using apt, RPM, or emerge! It's a lot easier than windows ; As for the problems you faced, all of them are because of the ****y manufacturers not providing drivers. As of today, we (the Linux community) haven't reached a critical mass. The moment we do, they will have to release drivers for Linux . Take for example Nvidia and Samsung. Both of them are releasing Linux drivers for their products. If the hardware is supported then Linux is much more user friend than Windows
5. Ok...if we apply the same logic, there can be noise on the RTS/CTS lines which may cause the modem to send wrong control signals. This may also slow down the transfers. As for transmission of binary files, well, I think all binary files are UUEncoded or some other "binary safe" format...
6. Evdo Status

WTF? Thats my POINT. Reliance WONT offer 2.4Mbps of INTERNATION BANDWIDTH. Do you even understand the meaning of INTERNATIONAL bandwidth? Will implementation of EvDO in India suddenly install 1000s of underwater submarine cables for Reliance or will it suddenly make reliance feel that we are offering too less to our customers so we should open up the entire international bandwidth that we have regardless of whatever costs we incurr?! The POTENTIAL bandwidth that EvDO offers is 2.4Mbps! THAT DOESNT MEAN RELIANCE OR ANY ISP IN INDIA WILL GIVE US 2.4Mbps OF INTERNATIONAL BANDWIDTH. If you can't STILL understand my point then simply put - You WONT be able to download from you favorite site at 2.4Mbps...
7. Try avast! Its not bad at all!
8. uh...guys, last time when I checked, Flow Control was to syncronise speeds between the ISP's server and your modem. It wont increase your error correction rate. And personally, with todays modern processors, it doesn't matter whether the Flow Control is handled by the modem or your CPU because it wont even take 0.005% of your CPU time.
9. Payments, Money Transfer Etc...

No, I don't know about 80io. Can you explain me?
10. RIMwebian's Secrets

ewww...you must be having EDC! It ****ed big time for us Comp guys!
11. Anti-virus

Ok, so you had a bad experience with Linux. But thats because you didn't give it enough time. Your hardware wasn't supported. If just these people open up the driver specs then Linux will flourish. Linux has the ability of hot plugging, it's almost immune to viruses, it is VERY stable, it can be updated without constantly rebooting AND any software can be installed / configured / reconfigured without a reboot. If your hardware is fully supported by Linux, like mine, then you will find Linux is very superior to Windows. And talking about games, well, the games that have been released for Linux have a much better performance on Linux machines. Thats because of better memory management. Better shell. It's ability to "drop" to a minimal mode where everything EXCEPT your game is run. Besides OpenGL is much more superior to DirectX. I know exactly how you feel. Back in the days of Redhat 9 I too was tearing out my hair trying to get sound and stuff working. But now, I am still on the same system but upgraded myself to Fedora Core 2 and I haven't had a SINGLE device not working with Linux. It's my desktop and server. Have been more productive than when I was with Windows. Believe me, I was tearing out MY HAIR every time Windows gave me the BSOD!

anujit, please take out some time to READ other people's posts. What you and SexyGurl posted AFTER my post is the SAME that I had posted in my original post. Also, you didn't get my point. My point ISN'T that you WONT get 2.4Mbps speeds. My point IS that you WILL get those speeds UPTO your ISP's infrastructure. He will decide whether to give you 2.4Mbps of INTERNATIONAL bandwidth or not. If you still didn't get what I am saying then keep reading... Sify, PowerSurfer.Net, 7Star, Pacenet, Exatt and other ISPs have LANs. These LANs are standard 100Mbps packet switched networks. THIS MEANS I can get UPTO 100Mbps speeds ON THE LAN. While the ISPs offer ONLY 64Kbps, 128Kbps plans. SO my connection which SUPPORTS SPEEDS **UPTO** 100Mbps is reduced to a connection on which I can transfer data INTERNATIONALLY only at 64Kbps or 128Kbps. LAN Potential speed - 100Mbps ISP offers - 64Kbps Similarly, EVDO Potential speed - 2.4Mbps ISP offers - XX Kbps Get it?
13. What U Think About Rimweb

Rajan, I am sorry but I can't understand what you're trying to say!
14. Airtel, Orange, Bpl Below Standards

abhay, i think IceMan is right. Two people I know use MTNL. The moment they converted to post paid the network quality SUDDENLY improved. Dunno why... Anyway, I haven't heard any post paid customer complain about the network quality...
15. Sony Ericsson

The question is whether TATA or RIM will want to give out these handsets?
16. Nokia Ties Up With Reliance

reliance is slowly going down the drain!
17. Evdo Status

dude, you can get all 2.4Mbps but the question is whether the operators would want to give you 2.4Mbps INTERNATIONAL bandwidth. They give a damn if you connect to their network at 2.4Mbps or 100Mbps. They will give you only 100Kbps of international bandwidth, then your 2.3Mbps bandwidth goes wasted!
18. What U Think About Rimweb

i know. i was just teasing him!
19. Airtel, Orange, Bpl Below Standards

iceman, has the dolphin network really improved?
20. haha. rivalry or incompetence?!
21. Airtel, Orange, Bpl Below Standards

Hey! It's not the mobile's fault that you can't understand english....
22. What U Think About Rimweb

hey ashok, i was also joking. PLEASE DONT BAN ME!!!

The ISP just has an 100 Mbps LAN speed .... not internet bandwidth. Your 6 KBps (48 Kbps) is the constraint of you telephone line (a dialup telephone line cannot deliver more than 64 kbps, ever). That is irrespective of what capacity your ISP has. If you ISP is a cable operator has is providing you service thru coaxial cable .. and you still get only 48kbps, there is a problem. Cable can support much higher speeds. As for 100 Mbps -- My office has 2 T1 lines (each about 2 Mbps) to US. So, total about 4 Mbps. It supports a large office. It is easy to assume that your ISP does not have 100 Mbps internet bandwidth available. (btw.... what is the access medium used by your ISP ?) 48101[/snapback] Ok, both of you. Lets just take a step back and read my post once again... Understood? No? Let me clarify. The reason that i posted that was to tell that even though EvDO offers a potential speed of 2.4Mbps, we WONT get it. Why? Thats because even current infrastructure in place supports a LOT of speed BUT that doesn't mean that we get ALL of it . Hence, the example of my ISP. SexyGurl, are you ok? I mean you didn't read my post carefully. I already stated that *my* ISP has a 100Mbps LAN BUT I still get speeds of 6KBps (48Kbps). Thats because even though *I* am connected to my ISP's servers at 100Mbps he still alots me only 64Kbps of the international bandwidth...
24. Airtel, Orange, Bpl Below Standards

RIM's network is terrible. Near santacruz people dont get networks in some buildings. My mum faces that problem quite regularly! Her office is there... They were supposed to add a new cell site. But dunno if that has materialized......
25. Why Cant We Google It?

A quick solution to satisfy both points of views would be to add Google Search to the website. Use the following code from google: <!-- Search Google --> <center> <FORM method=GET action="http://www.google.com/search"> <input type=hidden name=ie value=UTF-8> <input type=hidden name=oe value=UTF-8> <TABLE bgcolor="#FFFFFF"><tr><td> <A HREF="http://www.google.com/"> <IMG SRC="http://www.google.com/logos/Logo_40wht.gif" border="0" ALT="Google" align="absmiddle"></A> <INPUT TYPE=text name=q size=25 maxlength=255 value=""> <INPUT type=submit name=btnG VALUE="Google Search"> </td></tr></TABLE> </FORM> </center> <!-- Search Google --> The code has to be used as a whole. Yes, even the <!-- Search Google --> comments. For more info, go here: http://www.google.com/searchcode.html
