Cdma Open Market Handsets (omh) Initiative
me_saket replied to ravi_patent's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
The CDMA opportunity in India source NEW DELHI, INDIA: Comparing the CDMA and GSM technology, Vsevolod Rozanov, President and CEO, Sistema Shyam Teleservices says, "Now that GSM and CDMA have leveled up on the open handsets parameters, the consumer driven market will shift its focus on comparing its service quality and other features. CDMA is a far superior and faster technology as compared to GSM, which consumers have already started experiencing". According to Perry LaForge of CDG, "The CDMA opportunity in India looks even more promising with the entry of new brands, expansion of existing players and addition of new operators like Sistema Shyam Teleservices, Virgin Mobile and BSNL." He added further, "India is an ideal market both for upgrades for the existing CDMA subscribers base as well as for new subscribers acquisition. The CDMA-OMH will give consumers both choice and flexibility." One of the major reason for GSM dominating the India market has been that so far, on CDMA, every time the subscribers wanted to change or upgrade their handset, they had to change their number. And in the Indian market, where mobile number has almost become second identity, there was a lot of resistance to this. Commenting on this move of CDG, SC Khanna, Secretary General, Auspi, says, "The OMH initiative is a welcome move. Since Indian CDMA market is one the biggest market in the world, this initiative will move faster and also increase the competition in CDMA handsets market." According to Rozanov of Sistema Shyam Teleservices, "We are confident that CDG's move to launch its open market handsets initiative will receive a very positive response from the consumers. The timing has been perfect as the number of subscribers are growing on a daily basis." Although the market today is dominated by GSM, the tele-density in the country still remains at just 33%. Two-third of the market still remains untapped. So, there is lot of opportunity still existing for the CDMA operators to grab these untapped area and strengthen its footprint. But GSM players are enjoying market share and more aggressive in India. -

JULY ADDS 9.47 MILLION GSM SUBSCRIBERS Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has released the GSM subscriber base for July and its not surprising to see the additions but at a slower rate. A total of 9.47mn subscribers were added to the wireless segment taking the total base to 325.7mn (excluding RCOM). The subscriber addition in July is higher than June’s 8.89 million, but still lower than 10.8 million recorded in March, COAI said in a statement. Among the GSM Mobile Service Operators, Vodafone Essar added 2.2mn new users in July, taking its total base to 78.68mn while market leader and largest GSM operator Bharti Airtel saw its total base rise by 2.8mn to 105.18mn. Idea Cellular added 1.42mn new customers, boosting its subscriber base to 48.51mn, while Aircel increased its base by over 1.3mn to 23.1mn. BSNL added 1.62mn new customers, taking its reach to 5mn. Loop Mobile added 44,897 new subscribers, taking its total to 2.35mn. MTNL added 35,413 new customers, boosting its total base to 4.33mn. Bharti Airtel continues to be the top GSM operator in the country, with a market share of 32.29% followed by Vodafone Essar at 24.16%, BSNL at 15.57% and Idea at 14.9%. source -

me_saket replied to iammanuarora's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
no this is good idea, if u made 300 std calls with normal rate of Rs1.3/min, then total cost 1.3*300= 390. but if u rechagre with 99 then R99+0.5*300= 249. saving per month is Rs141 per month is good idea. -
Telecom Subscriber Base Count In India
me_saket replied to savramesh's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
source Telecom operators in the country added around 1.2 crore subscribers in the wireless segment in June taking the total user base to 46.48 crore, sectoral regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said today. The total number of telecom subscribers was 45.29 crore in May this year. "The wireless (GSM and CDMA) segment added 12.03 million new subscribers in June, while the wireline segment witnessed a dip of 120,000 connections," the statement said. The wireless subscriber base increased from 41.52 crore in May to 42.72 crore at the end of June, registering a monthly growth rate of 2.9 per cent, it added. The wireline subscriber base declined from 3.76 crore in May to 3.75 crore at the end of June. BSNL and MTNL, which have about 86.2 per cent market share in the wireline segment, lost 190,000 users in June. While BSNL lost 1,81,277 subscribers, MTNL lost 8,998 subscribers. BSNL subscriber base stood at 2.87 crore at the June-end, while MTNL had 35 lakh subscribers by June. Among the private operators, Airtel added about 28 lakh subscribers taking the total user base to 10.2 crore from 9.96 crore at the end of May. -
First to report about mumbai launch. news detail is below MUMBAI: Tata Teleservices Maharashtra (TTML) will launch its GSM-based cellular services in Mumbai on Thursday, becoming the eleventh brand in India’s biggest revenue-generating telecom circle. The entry, backed by a Rs 1,000-crore capital expenditure, is expected to intensify competition as the company may offer services at one paise per second. While TTML is already offering CDMA services under the Indicom brand, the GSM foray will be under the Tata DoCoMo brand. Tele-density in the metro circle is over 100%. Historically, operators, who enter a market late, have the balance tilted against them, though industry trackers think price will be a key differentiator. “Experience from non-dominant operators that successfully acquired market traction suggests that price is the sweetener that helps them gain ground in competitive markets and build a subscriber base,” Ascentius Consulting prinicipal analyst Alok Shende told ET. However, the challenge is that any of the innovative strategies from the new entrants can be quickly replicated by the incumbents, and hence, any tactical advantages may be ephemeral. “Eventually, quality of services, identifying and dominating profitable market niches and a powerful brand are the leading drivers for market share gains,” said Mr Shende. Mumbai is the second-biggest telecom circle in India, with 20.4 million subscribers as of June 2009. Of the 10 brands present here, Vodafone Essar is the market leader and has 4.6 million users, followed by Reliance Communications, which offers both CDMA and GSM services. TTML, which so far has been only a CDMA provider, has 2.5 million users in Mumbai. TTML has invested a large part of its Rs 1,000 crore capex in GSM services across Mumbai and rest of Maharashtra. A large part of TTML’s GSM infrastructure is riding on its existing CDMA infrastructure, with the same towers hosting both services in many locations. An email sent to TTML remained unanswered. The Tata Group has already launched GSM services in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh through Tata Teleservices, the group’s unlisted telecom arm, which provides CDMA services in 20 circles. In Tamil Nadu, the company has crossed the 500,000-subscriber mark within a month of its launch. According to industry sources, the listed TTML will complete its GSM rollout across Goa and rest of Maharashtra by the end of this month. Angel Broking analyst (telecom & IT) Harit Shah said: “There is enough competition here already and TTML will only add to it. This is only good news for consumers who will have more choice.” Mr Shende said it would be early to estimate the impact of a tenth brand in Mumbai. “Experience from developing markets such as Africa suggests that new entrants can become dominant in three-four years,” he said. On the other hand, experience from mature markets like Germany suggest that while new entrants bring distributive strategies to the market, it does not translate into leading market share positions.

this was happed to be in older days, now new operator don't do that, And docomo is trying to build image that "most wide coverage on day 1 of launch than any other operator" so no chance to see any other network in home area.
