Bsnl Mulls Inducting Foreign Telco As Strategic Partner
me_saket posted a topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Source : economic times NEW DELHI: Amid falling revenues and profits, state-owned BSNL is mulling a proposal to induct a strong foreign telecom operator as a strategic partner to reverse its fortunes, a move that may yield more money to the government than from listing or disinvestment. "A strategic partner will be a better option...provided the government is favourable to that idea," a source, working closely on the listing of the PSU and involved in negotiations with the employees' unions, said. BSNL's valuation has been pegged at about 100 billion dollars and the PSU has a paid up capital of about Rs 5,000 crore (1.04 billion dollars). BSNL had reported a revenue of Rs 38,000 crore and a net profit of Rs 3,000 crore in the last fiscal and this year the company has projected a dip in both total income as well as net profit, mainly due to lower average revenue per user (ARPU) and if the trend continues for few years the company's long term plans may suffer. Asked why a foreign strategic partner should be favoured over listing and disinvestment, sources said "...because when they come they can have a say in the management and change the face and culture of the company." There are many big foreign telecom operators, like AT&T, France Telecom and others, who are looking at entering the Indian market and these companies are in talks with some of the private service providers. My Views: BSNL is lookign for this strategic partner to enter into MVNo market. BSNL's cdma netowrk is now at good standing, can be lend to ant foreign operator to start thier business with MVNO. so soon we will se 10digit bsnl cdma number. That's why bsnl is taking time, govt allowed roaming facility to it's cdma mobile more than year ago, but lack of policies for mvno and poor image of BSNL's TARANG, they delayed. Now they are ready to give this network to any foreign opeator -
The Nielsen Consumer Experience Mobile Test program, which measures wireless network performance of all national and select regional carriers, has successfully completed testing 39 markets for the Phase I of its program (2008-2009).The Nielsen survey studied differences in Data Network performance between CDMA and GSM technologies. It was observed that CDMA technology has a distinct edge over GSM across all of the top six Data Network performance metrics. CDMA Operator network ranks #1 in HTTP Download Data Rate performance in 7 out of 8 metros tested. The second phase of Nielsen Consumer Experience Mobile Test program is scheduled to commence soon and will include an expanded scope of markets and features. Nielsen has also completed the test of the data networks in the top 8 metros in India, which reveals an even starker picture of Data network performance in the country. The variation in performance of Data network performance between the market leader and the market average in the Tier I markets creates a bigger and better opportunity for differentiation, especially given the upcoming roll out of 3G networks and the big effort from operators to increase revenues from VAS. When the top 8 metros were assessed for average performance against the six most important data network performance metrics, it was observed that Ahmedabad had some of the best average performance rates. Average performance Metric Best Worst Average Connect Success Rate Ahmedabad Mumbai Average Data Rate Ahmedabad Bengaluru Table 1: Best and worst average performing metros for 6 most important data network performance metrics * Metrics related to HTTP/Upload as applicable Though CDMA technology has an edge over GSM in both Voice and Data network performance in India, only about 62 percent of new acquisitions (acquired in the last 6 months) among CDMA players are likely to consider their existing service provider as their next choice. More importantly a third of them (33%) are likely to consider a GSM brand as their first choice as according to the respondents it delivers better on both network and price. This trend in perception between GSM and CDMA operators will have an implication on driving customer acquisition, retention and usage initiatives like VAS and 3G which will be used as a means of differentiation. Mobile Number Portability (MNP) will further catalyze this impending market sentiment. The CDMA operators should leverage their inherent network advantage to drive consumer perception of their network said Panchapakesan

me_saket posted a topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Did u remember month of january when rcom came with CEP scheme giving 900TT with Rs25. Did u remember when in mid of februay news was flashed that indian telecom adds 15million subsciber in one month, highest being rcom 5million addition. Now can u guess what is rcom subsciber additon in month of april??? Just 1.7million, and that to GSM+CDMA ,compare to bharti 2.81, vodafone 2.7 idea1.1 bsnl 1.0, see the growth of subsbiber http://auspi.in/show-subscribber.asp it worst, because last year average addition of rcom was 1.25million with just cdma service. now rates are become lower, other operator are growing very fast. world is agree that indian telecom is having highest growth. With so many this to increase subsbiber, rcom gsm is adding such few number with service in CDMA+GSM+FWP. what a shame Guys lets see what will happen after MNP. -

In a first of its kind effort, Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications (RCom), is all set to come up with 35 new live streaming channels to its GSM subscribers. The private sector telecom company is already offering 13 news and other TV channels to its CDMA network. For this purpose, RCom has tied-up with Hyderabad-based Apalya Technologies. The services are branded as MimobiTV. Confirming the development, Krishna Durbha, Head (VAS) RCom said, “We are in advanced talks with Apalya. The tie-up would help us increase the width of the usage.” "Apalya's Mimobi technology uses progressive download method for playing video. Progressive download means the application initially downloads some part of video file, and then it starts playing the video file," added Durbha. Mobile TV company, Apalya is also into tie-up with BSNL for similar contributions and the services are offered as part of BSNL’s 3G services bouquet. At present, RCom through its strategic tie-up with ESPN is also offering all ICC World T20 matches through its R-World VAS platform. Prior to this, RCom has introduced a sachet pricing model to drive uptake of its VAS offerings Source: Topnews

The company‟s Next Gen GSM service started on a heady note, with TTSL Managing Director Anil Sardana making the first phone call from TATA DOCOMO‟s 3G-ready network to Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor. TATA DOCOMO‟s pan-India service rollout will be completed this year, with South Indian Circles going „live‟ soon. In a message at the launch press conference, Mr Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Sons, said: “The value proposition offered by TATA-DOCOMO is a unique and revolutionary idea which symbolizes the spirit of innovation and inventive genius. This launch is truly a moment of triumph for the consumer. The launch of pay-per-use, per-second concept offered by TATA-DOCOMO will create a paradigm shift in the overall telecom experience for the customer and provide a service that is refreshingly different.” One Paisa Per Second for All Calls—Local & STD! Per-Second Pulse Announced! TATA DOCOMO also unleashed a wide array of products and services at the launch, riding on the back of path-breaking innovative products and services, and never-before tariff options. “We had made a promise that we would bring to the country products and services that would redefine the telecom experience,” Mr Anil Sardana said. “It is a privilege to be fulfilling that promise in South India—where subscribers are discerning and seek transparency, innovation and differentiation. Our partnership with NTT DOCOMO will help us provide our subscribers with tremendous technological and service differentiation. Keeping in view the century of trust associated with the House of Tata, we are launching the concept of fare being fair.
