  3. GPRS working fine. ( costly though).

what is the cost? is it not 10p/10kb ??

    Yes it is. It's 1p/kb. Outside home location - it's 10p/10kb.

( Assumption : you can use data while using some other GSM network during roaming)

And hence I was surprised yesterday - using the airtelgprs APN it got connected to the google.

I said costly as I have unlimited free (for Rs. 125/month). As per CC they are working on the new vouchers and very soon

they will come up with great offerings. Let's see!

with whom they have roaming agreement. plz ask cc guys.

    also post apn of tata.

NEW DELHI: Amid falling revenues and profits, state-owned BSNL is mulling a proposal to induct a strong foreign telecom operator as a strategic

partner to reverse its fortunes, a move that may yield more money to the government than from listing or disinvestment.

"A strategic partner will be a better option...provided the government is favourable to that idea," a source, working closely on the listing of the PSU and involved in negotiations with the employees' unions, said.

BSNL's valuation has been pegged at about 100 billion dollars and the PSU has a paid up capital of about Rs 5,000 crore (1.04 billion dollars).

BSNL had reported a revenue of Rs 38,000 crore and a net profit of Rs 3,000 crore in the last fiscal and this year the company has projected a dip in both total income as well as net profit, mainly due to lower average revenue per user (ARPU) and if the trend continues for few years the company's long term plans may suffer.

Asked why a foreign strategic partner should be favoured over listing and disinvestment, sources said "...because when they come they can have a say in the management and change the face and culture of the company."

There are many big foreign telecom operators, like AT&T, France Telecom and others, who are looking at entering the Indian market and these companies are in talks with some of the private service providers.

My Views: BSNL is lookign for this strategic partner to enter into MVNo market.

BSNL's cdma netowrk is now at good standing, can be lend to ant foreign operator to start thier business with MVNO. so soon we will se 10digit bsnl cdma number.

That's why bsnl is taking time, govt allowed roaming facility to it's cdma mobile more than year ago, but lack of policies for mvno and poor image of BSNL's TARANG, they delayed.

Now they are ready to give this network to any foreign opeator

  11. .both the cdma operators in india haven't so far used the full potential of their networks.they can give their 1x network with far better speed at lower prices which could draw more customers to them.but ironically their policies so far have been the opposite and not at all customer friendly.

they should realise this.the sooner the better.

rcom had alreay used it's full potetial of cdma data network during mansoon hungama. At that time RWORLD was free.

and people were use to see cricket/news videos, play games, and it draws many customer to rcom, so it stand at 76million today.

BUT don't know ehat happen to thir polocies after ANIL takes cahrge ofRCOM?????

Also tata zone was free untill last month, but lack of advetising and marketing keeps way from TATA;s data network.

Hopr thy will gear up soon, as 3G is coming closer

  12. The Nielsen Consumer Experience Mobile Test program, which measures wireless network performance of all national and select regional carriers, has successfully completed testing 39 markets for the Phase I of its program (2008-2009).The Nielsen survey studied differences in Data Network performance between CDMA and GSM technologies.

It was observed that CDMA technology has a distinct edge over GSM across all of the top six Data Network performance metrics. CDMA Operator network ranks #1 in HTTP Download Data Rate performance in 7 out of 8 metros tested.

The second phase of Nielsen Consumer Experience Mobile Test program is scheduled to commence soon and will include an expanded scope of markets and features.

Nielsen has also completed the test of the data networks in the top 8 metros in India, which reveals an even starker picture of Data network performance in the country. The variation in performance of Data network performance between the market leader and the market average in the Tier I markets creates a bigger and better opportunity for differentiation, especially given the upcoming roll out of 3G networks and the big effort from operators to increase revenues from VAS.

When the top 8 metros were assessed for average performance against the six most important data network performance metrics, it was observed that Ahmedabad had some of the best average performance rates.

    Average performance Metric

    Best

    Worst

    Average Connect Success Rate

    Ahmedabad

    Mumbai

    Average Data Rate

    Ahmedabad

    Bengaluru

Table 1: Best and worst average performing metros for 6 most important data network performance metrics

    * Metrics related to HTTP/Upload as applicable

Though CDMA technology has an edge over GSM in both Voice and Data network performance in India, only about 62 percent of new acquisitions (acquired in the last 6 months) among CDMA players are likely to consider their existing service provider as their next choice. More importantly a third of them (33%) are likely to consider a GSM brand as their first choice as according to the respondents it delivers better on both network and price.

This trend in perception between GSM and CDMA operators will have an implication on driving customer acquisition, retention and usage initiatives like VAS and 3G which will be used as a means of differentiation. Mobile Number Portability (MNP) will further catalyze this impending market sentiment. The CDMA operators should leverage their inherent network advantage to drive consumer perception of their network said Panchapakesan

    TATA DOCOMO Launches

    GSM Service in Kerala

Pay-for-what-you-use, Per-Second Paradigm Comes to India

“Moment of triumph for the Indian consumer”: Ratan Tata

 From today, subscribers can call anywhere in India for just 1 paisa per second

 Best coverage at the time of launch—493 towns and 516 villages in Kerala

 Complete South India rollout in a fortnight

 Country-wide service rollout to be completed this year itself

Kochi, 25 June 2009: TATA DOCOMO, the GSM brand of Tata Teleservices Limited, today announced the commercial launch of its operations in Kerala, just a day after it announced its launch in Tamil Nadu. The company‟s Next Gen GSM service started on a heady note, with TTSL Managing Director Anil Sardana making the first phone call from TATA DOCOMO‟s 3G-ready network to Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor. TATA DOCOMO‟s pan-India service rollout will be completed this year, with South Indian Circles going „live‟ soon.

In a message at the launch press conference, Mr Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Sons, said: “The value proposition offered by TATA-DOCOMO is a unique and revolutionary idea which symbolizes the spirit of innovation and inventive genius. This launch is truly a moment of triumph for the consumer. The launch of pay-per-use, per-second concept offered by TATA-DOCOMO will create a paradigm shift in the overall telecom experience for the customer and provide a service that is refreshingly different.”

One Paisa Per Second for All Calls—Local & STD! Per-Second Pulse Announced!

TATA DOCOMO also unleashed a wide array of products and services at the launch, riding on the back of path-breaking innovative products and services, and never-before tariff options. “We had made a promise that we would bring to the country products and services that would redefine the telecom experience,” Mr Anil Sardana said. “It is a privilege to be fulfilling that promise in South India—where subscribers are discerning and seek transparency, innovation and differentiation. Our partnership with NTT DOCOMO will help us provide our subscribers with tremendous technological and service differentiation. Keeping in view the century of

trust associated with the House of Tata, we are launching the concept of fare being fair. From today, TATA DOCOMO subscribers will now be able to enjoy the benefits of ‘pay-as-you-use’, at only one paisa per second for all voice calls across India,” he added.

NTT DOCOMO is acknowledged as the global leader in 3G technology and respected worldwide for its futuristic product innovations.

In a video-address, Mr Toshinari Kunieda, Senior Vice-President and Managing Director, Global Business Division, NTT DOCOMO, said: “NTT DOCOMO has provided technical inputs to make the TATA DOCOMO GSM network world-class. Progressively, NTT DOCOMO shall bring to India the various products and services that we offer in Japan and many other countries—such as i-modeTM, Location-based Services (LBS) and mobile payment—and give TATA DOCOMO customers a flavor of tomorrow. TTSL and NTT DOCOMO are closely engaged in integrating technology, value-added services, products and applications through the mechanism of Business and Technology Cooperation Committee (BTCC). This should see TATA DOCOMO change the way India communicates.”

Announcing some very aggressive pricing and customization options, Mr Deepak Gulati, President, TATA DOCOMO, said: “In a market that is cluttered with many operators and throws up confusing options, we will offer simplicity to consumers by being the country‟s most transparent, innovative and liberating telecom brand. The first move on this front—both in Kerala and in Tamil Nadu—is to cut through the clutter and redefine the entire pricing paradigm—from Day One of our launch, we will work on a per-second pricing model for almost everything, be it voice calls, VAS services, IVR interactions. Above all, we promise to always listen to our subscribers.”

The company has earmarked an investment of $2 billion on its pan-India GSM network rollout.

TATA DOCOMO also announced the introduction of the pay-as-you-use advantage for many of its Value-added Services, including all its voice portals, 24-hour music, cricket commentary and voice chat. The Company also announced Free Missed Call Alerts service to all its customers without any charge whatsoever. In addition, VoiceMail on TATA DOCOMO will be totally free for all subscribers with no burden of monthly rentals, no deposits, and no retrieval charges.

    Superior Technology and Network

From the day of the launch, the reach and coverage of the TATA DOCOMO network is greater in Kerala than that of any other operator at the launch stage. The TATA DOCOMO GSM mobile

service will have extensive coverage in 493 towns and cities and 516 villages in Kerala, along 890 km of the state‟s highways, at airports, along 940 km of rail routes and at places of tourist interest.

NTT DOCOMO has played a major role in the evolution of mobile telecommunications through its development of cutting-edge technologies and services. Over the years, technologists at NTT DOCOMO have defined industry benchmarks for 3G technology, as also products and services such as i-mode and a plethora of lifestyle-enhancing applications. Today, while most global telecom players are only beginning to talk of 4G technology and its possible applications, NTT DOCOMO has already recorded a downlink transmission rate of 250 Mbps over a high-speed wireless network in an outdoor test of an experimental system for Super 3G, also known as LTE, and is targeting to complete the commercial development by the end of 2009. This will hold TATA DOCOMO in good stead as it launches GSM services.
