  1. In a first of its kind effort, Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications (RCom), is all set to come up with 35 new live streaming channels to its GSM subscribers.

The private sector telecom company is already offering 13 news and other TV channels to its CDMA network.

For this purpose, RCom has tied-up with Hyderabad-based Apalya Technologies.

The services are branded as MimobiTV.

Confirming the development, Krishna Durbha, Head (VAS) RCom said, “We are in advanced talks with Apalya. The tie-up would help us increase the width of the usage.”

"Apalya's Mimobi technology uses progressive download method for playing video. Progressive download means the application initially downloads some part of video file, and then it starts playing the video file," added Durbha.

Mobile TV company, Apalya is also into tie-up with BSNL for similar contributions and the services are offered as part of BSNL’s 3G services bouquet.

At present, RCom through its strategic tie-up with ESPN is also offering all ICC World T20 matches through its R-World VAS platform.

Prior to this, RCom has introduced a sachet pricing model to drive uptake of its VAS offerings

  3. Dear Members,

I just now spoke with Customer Care representative, Tamil Nadu Circle on 9043-012345. The following are the details I got from him:

    Prepaid Starter Pack:

    Price: 49 Rupees

    Validity: Life-time

    Talk-time bundled: 25 Minutes

    Voice calls:

    Tata DoCoMo ---->Tata DoCoMo / Tata Indicom / Virgin Mobile (Intra/Inter-circle): 1 paise/sec

    Tata DoCoMo ----> Other mobiles / Land lines (Intra/Inter-circle): 1 paise/sec

    Text Messaging:

    Local SMS: 60 paise/SMS (160 characters)

    National SMS: 1.2 Rupee/SMS

    International SMS: 5 Rupees/SMS

Note: These are base-line tariffs offered without any add-on subscriptions whatsoever, and so does not reflect the complete tariff offerings of Tata DoCoMo.

U havent cleared my doubt? whether calls from tata indicom-tata docomo are ONnet calls or OFFnet.

also not given any info regarding recharge voucher denominations and TT

    Have u NOTICE SMS charges??

Natonal sms is Rs1.2, this is sign that in future STD call will also be charged at 2paise/second.

Hope Tata Docomo's GSM network is better than Reliance GSM. If and when the network is launched in Delhi and mobile number portability is available, I'd like to get rid of Reliance CDMA.

Reliance GSM ****s so bad that I believe Reliance should refund my rs. 49 that I paid for SIM card.

Tata Network coverage is poor ...comparing to reliance CDMA coverage

Tata indicom network is robust in maharashtra. it comes uder TTML

In maharshtra tata is among top 3 operator and in mumbai amoung top 4.

And recently they reached 5million subsciber in maharashtra

Who said, tata indicom is having among top 3 player in maharashtra and and top 4 in mumbai, it's having most robust network

and recently they managed to get 5million subsciber in region.

  5. I think Tata Indicom when launched had 15seconds pulse which they later changed to per-minute billing. Per-second billing is always great for customer and with 1paise/second its equivalent to other operators having per-minute billing.

Anyways, does TRAI permit per-second billing?

no dear. whn tata indicom was lanuched in 2003. it was 5paisa per second billing under TRUEPAID brand. later changd to 3paise for local and 5paise for std. and postpaid with 15sec pulse.

but later chngd to per minute billing. i dont knw wht was prblm. may be termination chrges.

now alsn docomo start per second biling tht mean trai support it.

i thnk soon tata docomo wll chng tariff of std call to 2paise per second.

and wthn year trai wll reduce termnation charges to 10Paise. and thn 0paise. as it was done in case of ADC.

    waiting for trai decesion.

  6. I think they will contiue with 1paisa per second billing,

and about termination charges, they will bear 10-15paise for calls which will be end in less than 20seconds,

But If u observe in 1month time we hardly make less than 1% of total calls which ends in less than 20 seconds.

e.g. if u make 5calls per day, 150calls per month then , appox 5-7 calls are ending in less than 20 seconds,

So tata can bear 7calls*10paise(considering call end in 10 seconds, to 20paise termination-10paise paid)= 70paise/month

And i think(1 second billing) this make tata to earning more ARPU.

Generally call end is less than 20 seconds if theire is any n/w problem. But tata already is with NTT(most advanced network in world) so call drop will surely at lowerside.

And IT makes PRESSURE to network engineer to maintain n/w properly to avoide loss due to call drop problem.

I have one doubt whether calls from docomo-indicom are considered as on-net calls or off-net calls?? plz anyone confirm this.

  10. AIrcel is most pitiful service in Mumbai

I bought AIrcel prepaid & sent SMS to 121 fr WAP. Even after 24 hrs - there is no response.

CC is outsourced & have no clue to wap settings.

After the brief showers yesterday, the NW went down at Powai. Now If I send SMS - I get 'Service not avaialble'.

Message centre settings are correct but CC doesn;t know them :(

Even if u call CC now, the all gets forwarded automatically to an IVR & if u make any selection, call is terminated.

I guess I have to just finish my balance & then say bye bye to AIrcel forever.

Dealer told me if I charge for Rs 199, I get talktime of Rs 249. However I got talktime of Rs 180 only. When I managed to reach CC once, the guy told me that balnce Rs69 is only for local calls - to be consumed within 30 days & won;t have long term validity.

    WAP

I tried all gprs settings on the google but none worked.

I guess gprs itself is not working in my area.

I tried it in Samsung E250, Nokia N series, Samsung 3G, 8830, Moto Razr but same dud response in all.

So anyone thinking of AIrcel RS 98 offer, just don;t waste ur money. BTW, Pkt Internet offer allows u only browsing with no downloads. If u download anything, it wil be charged 10p for 10kb. ANy billing unit is 10p. So even if u download 21kb, u pay for 30kb...Daylight robbery...

I am sticking to my MTNL prepaid fr time being

From above review it seems that no one is interested in aircel mumbai.

  11. Verizon Wireless has announced the creation of a USB device that is compatible with both GSM and CDMA networks that will bring high speed wireless connectivity at 3G speeds and EV-DO Rev. A to notebook computers. The device is called the Novatel USB 1000 Global Modem and is ideal for people who frequently travel or spend time in both North America and the rest of the globe.

The Modem will go on sale at Verizon Wireless tomorrow and will retail at $149.99 after you deduct a $50 mail in rebate and is tied in with a two year contract to the company.

Additionally, Verizon also has a few Global Access plans that begin at $129.99 per month and include 5 GB of transfers between Canada and the US and up to a maximum of 100MB of transfers between 31 different international destinations.

For those who expect to use more data while on the go, for $219.99 per month there is a plan that offers up to 200MB of international transfers with overages costing .5 a penny per each kilobyte.

Finally, for those who do not want to make a long term commitment to a Verizon plan the company also offers a pay as you go plan that has different rates for each country, but the customer must purchase a $60 per month plan with the standard 5GB of transfers between Canada and the US.

    souce : USBCORE

My view : India also needs such kind of modem once 3G is introduced,
