rconnect is a wireless net service.. so it is expected to come at a cost. it is a big boon to people who travel alot. They get decent speeds and can pick from different plans. Atleast now they dont need to be stuck with gprs..

I sm using a 512kbps dsl connection. My setup is as follows. The isp provides me with a phoneline along with a router. The phoneline goes into the router and a cat5 cable comes out of it. Now, i have bought a switch. So i put the cat5 cable into the switch port and two other wires from the other ports go into different comps. Another cable from the switch goes to a wireless router which is basically for a centrino laptop. Now there are two things: 1. When i telnet the isp router i see that the isp has changed my upstream/downstream from 512/256 to 8096/768. However my download speeds remain the same.. Is there any possible way of unlocking that speed. 2. Since im using a switch to split the net, i want to know that will tools like SG TCP optimizer work for me. (It basically changes MTU and latency settings along with others).

the isp itself sets the speed but even though the upstream/downstream have increased the actual speed i get has remained the same.

seems like some thing was forcing my cpu to run at 100%. Ive narrowed down to wintcpmod.exe in c:\windows\system32 folder. Any inpute as to what this might be?

vishal , i had come across the same page that you have quoted before dinner. My filesize did clash with the one mentioned and it is in the system32 folder only, but my zonealarm AV (basically vet av by comp ascosiates) doesnt detect a thing.

i uninstalled my nav 2003 on thursday and activated the antivirus and antispyware on my zonealarm security suite. I have been using norton since the begining and did use avg for a while. Norton definitely was better at detection. Im giving ZASS a try at the moment. If its not that good, then ill move to nav 2005.

another thing, can the bose acoustimass 5 be used with audio devices like ipods by connecting them to the subwoofer like multimedia speakers or is an external amp essential.

speaking of wirelessspeakers, yes bluetooth ones are avaialble.. infact last month when i was abroad i came across many wirelss home theaters but the main draw back is that each sattelite requires batteries to power them. 2.1 speakers can be connected to devices like discmans and ipods by connecting them to the phones or lineout jack. However incase for 4.1 and upwards you need a rear speaker slot also.. so they are compatible with different amplifiers apart from soundcards for comps which support them.

im based in delhi. Ive already been to the lansing distru in delhi. His top of the line models were mx 5021 and cs21 or smth. Speaking of bose, the companions dont seem to be so great. Ive also heard that there are a lot of altec fakes in the market. Could anyone comment on that? It also happens that im looking for a set of speakers for my living room to connect with the ipod. Ive had a look at the bose soundock but wasnt too impressed. The acoustimass 5 sounded much better but the thing is that i also might need to chip in for an amp if i buy that.

Generally i use limewire to get my media, however i need a place to get english full albums for my ipod. Some genres required would be- rock, metal and oldies. The quality should be good. Any reccomendations?

what about current net speeds?

Since i didnt have usb2 ports on my comp i purchased a 4port card today and plugged it in. It works fine, but i dont know how to change the port speeds. I know that for onboard usb ports the speeds can be changed from the BIOS, but what about the PCI USB cards? I want to use my card on full speed.

thanks for ur replies. i figured that out yesterday. The speed depends on the device you connect ie. the max speed the device can support.

anyone in delhi can look at edge laptops which are actually assembled laptops made out of notebook kits. they r thin n light but most importantly easily upgradable.
