One-state-one-rate From Reliance Infocomm
Puneet replied to urvinod's topic in Reliance Communications
The DOT notification unites the circles only for calls made to Mobile Phones, and not to landlines. However, calls made from Landline to mobile have been made local. So calls from FWP/FWT should also be considered local. Reliance took more than a month to implement the changes on mobile tariffs, lets see how long will they take to updat landline tariffs -

Since Sierra cards are capable of sending/receiving SMS using a computer, maybe a littel bit of reverse engineering on the accompanied software might help - that was my two cents. <off topic> Can one use HCC on Sierra cards, if yes, then maybe a DAPO connection can be trasferred to a Data card and computer used as a SMS Gateway on LAN (someone had enquired about setting up such a thing a few months ago). Would require development of some APIs though. </off topic> PS @ashok: if you need some help with testing your application from behind a firewall and also a proxy which requires authentication, I maybe bale to help you. I am behind a firewall as well as need authenticated access to squid.

Yes, kams19, whatever you said is being discussed since yesterday itself, and the advertisement is also posted a little above in the same thread :-) http://www.rimweb.com/forums/index.php?sho...indpost&p=34431 Has anyone confirmed the tariffs for postpaid yet? The advertisement was also for pre-paid only
-
Here is the ad-clip from TOI-Mumbai. But the ad is for RIM-Prepaid, hopefully its applicable to post-paid too.

Where is the official communication? I still could not find it on their website.
-
No, you can't. As I still have only 193 posts, I do not get the option to set Custom member title (Though am happy with the title:Moderator). However, an Admin or a Super-Moderator could change it for you. That is why you would see some members with customized titles though they are way below the 500 mark.

No you do not pay anything else to surf the net, you can be on 24X7 and you need not pay anything other than Rs 650 (if you manage your download within the cap). The card will work equally well through out the country, provided Reliance is providing services in that region. A card bought in Bangalore will have no problems in Trichy (or for that matter Jhumri Talaya). Only thing being, you need to get the SDCA change done, otherwise your voice calls will attract roaming charges (and am not sure if SDCA change for the card is yet in place or not.) They will be launching EVDO as soon as they get regulatory clearances, however, you card will continue to work as it is, and nothing can be said about the exchange pricing at this moment. PS: Which laptop are you considering to buy?

If you opt for Freedom/Freedom Plus/Platinum plans of R-connect you pay only Rs 650/900/1500 plus tax. Basic voice plan is inbuilt in these plans with the monthly rental waived off. However, if you wish to use CLIP you will need to subscribe to the facilty seperatley @ Rs 25 pm. Also, am not sure about the plan charges of Rs 25. You can get detailed information here: http://www.relianceinfo.com/Infocomm/Rim/r...fs_details.html

And we thought this breed of CC was bred specially for Reliance

Ask BSNL customer care
-
Because BSNL still doesn't provides cell companies with direct conectivity to CellOne, and all calls have to be routed through the fixed line network. Here again BSNL charges cell companies with the transit charge (though TDSAT has recently ordered BSNL to not to charge transit charge). Maybe this is the payback time

If I read the TRAI recommendations right, GSM operators would be getting the IMT-2000 spectrum only by December 2006, when the defence would vacate it. One and a half years is a too long a period in telecom, so GSM operators certainly do not have an edge over CDMA here. However, CDMA operators are getting additional spectrum in the lower range, which would still enable them to offer enahanced data services. That's why GSM operators were crying foul, as this would give backdoor entry to Reliance in 3G services, while GSM would have to wait till defence vacates the spectrum. GSM never failed in America. In the initial days of mobile technology, two seperate streams were developed, one led by european companies which favoured GSM and second led by American companies which favoured TDMA/CDMA. Till recently, there were no GSM networks in America as it was never launched there. However, all recent networks (led by T-Mobile) in America use GSM. There is a basic difference in CDMA and GSM handsets. GSM handsets require only a SIM card to network enable them whereas CDMA handsets require operator programming to do so. So there is a wide open market for GSM handsets, as one can change his/her handset as his/her clothes, however, changing CDMA handset would require operator intervention everytime which is a cumbersome process. And this drastically reduces the market size. As CDMA handsets have to be programmed by the operator, the handset needs to be compatible with their network and this further restricts the model availability. Also, CDMA is a patented technology and most of the handsets use chipsets developed by Qualcomm which holds the patent over CDMA, thus increasing the costs of the handset. To get over this, CDMA handsets have traditionally been subsidzed by operators (in US market). CDMA has been operating on Global frequencies in India till now. There are plenty of factors which affect the model availability in any market, and these are just a few of them.

Yes, your tariff will be as per the rates of Joy 149, with the rental and plan fees waived off, however, if you wish to avail CLIP, you will need to pay Rs 25/- per month. If you wish to opt for any other plan, you will have to pay the rental too.

MS Word has a fine utility "Change case..." which comes very handy in these circumstances
-
Yes, plus tax. (And you get some free SMSes too).

Linux world is based on the open source software developed by numerous developers across the globe. Different flavours of Linux are actaually different packaging of the same core with differnt toppings. While all distributions would essentialy comprise of a linux kernel, an X system (x,org), a desktop environment (eg KDE, Gnome), a few servers etc, they differ in the default choices. Also, all distributions provide differnt customizations, and custom built graphical user interfaces for configuring the OS. Though they still might be using the same thing in the background. Then there are some distributions like Gentoo, which have taken on the benefits of BSD (the portage system) and merged it with linux. So its like eating the vanilla ice-cream from different campanies and topping it with the syrup of your choice. You can have it as plain vanilla or make a sundae out of it

Give them some time man, they do not follow the telecom news as we do. Further, no mobile company has actually come out with the tariffs applicable in view of the change as of yet.

You could check out the following links for starters: Five editions of Windows XP compared http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/evaluation/compare.mspx Windows XP Comparison Guide http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/how.../choosing2.mspx Windows XP Home Edition vs. Professional Edition: What's the difference? http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_home_pro.asp XP (Home Addition) vs XP (Professional) http://www.devhood.com/messages/message_vi...thread_id=26473 Windows XP Home vs Windows XP Professional http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6142-0.html?f...essageID=618319 And then follow it up with a little bit of googling

Not exactly from Gentoo, coz it has almost anything, but still some things will forward Linux a lot if available. eg: Voice chat on yahoo (otherwise Kopete rocks!!!), A good way to run MS Office (Crossover is not comaptible with O2k3 and Star/Open Office is way too behind) and maybe a few softwares to connect to my mobile Reserve your comments on speed till you use Gentoo , though installing gentoo is a little bit time consuming (it took me 4 days for a stage 1 install ) but then the speed it gives is worth it. My old P3 works like a charm on Gentoo, though latest versions of Suse too make it sluggish
-
Have been using Linux since 1999 on my personal machine (long time ehhh...). Started off with Mandrake, flirted a bit with Suse but am now happily married to Gentoo for the past 2 years. Simply love the customizability and optimal performance. Have never liked Redhat (or Fedora), I feel its more like MS (its comletely a personal opinion, so do NOT flame me). And since I started using Gentoo, I have done away with Windows too Have been running a few servers too since 2002 (all on Suse)
