Thanks for the hint, though I dont remember an 'auto self-potrait mode'. My flash does have an auto-mode, but thats just for the flash according to light. Well, I have almost given up on low-light photography, almost... As for tripods, my friend had a palm-sized tripod (plastic). Its basic idea was to keep the camera steady when placed on some object, because it had no height adjustment, just angle adjustment. Any clues as to where I can get such a tripod, or for that matter, any tripod (for around Rs. 1000) ?

My feelings exactly - I recently attended a marriage, and indoors I had the most pathetic of snaps. As it is - the exposure settings change automatically also (at least in my cam they do). So an increase in exposure means u really need a tripod or ' rahuldevnath's ' steady hand. To cut short - higher exposure timing means ruined photographs in 90% of cases, at least for me it does.

Even I have been hoping that with the 70% slashing of rates - even RConnect users will see the benefit, and have the Unlimited plan charges reduced to sub - Rs. 1000 range. Keeping my fingers crossed...

Hmmm, a lot of pointers indeed. Even I feel that we can divide digcams into 2categories - amateur and professional. Most of us own digcams that dont even come close to SLRs. But that doesnt mean that there is nothing to discuss. I agree on the point that daylight (natural light) give best results. Flash is just for a pic clicked for memories' sake. Otherwise, to put it simplym flash ruins any decent pic. Still have to get some prints though. Advice (2nd hand) - "Always try to edit the pic on a PC (resize, crop, etc.) before you take it for printing." I think thats pretty sound advice. As for the editing part, not all people are Photoshop experts. I strongly suggest Picasa, which has been developed by Google, at www.picasa.com .

I too have a problem similar to this. Firstly, my phone (FWP) keeps going out of service area and then back again when I surf the net. I have to restart my system everytime it happens. Secondly, the speed is getting to be slower day by day. I think even I should go to WebWorld and lodge a complaint. Lets see if it gets solved.

I have been gettin a pretty decent surfin speed of around 7K, usually more, for a long time. However, since the past five days or so, I have sensed a drop in the speed. I have reinstalled my OS, so the problem lies with RConnect itself. Anyone else sharing my grief?

I have bought the camera to replace the existing point-and-shoot film camera that I have. So its great from that point of view. As for the serious users, the digcams with a price range of Rs. 15000 upwards would suffice. Let us hear more from people.... some tips and tricks too.

I read in the newspaper a few days ago that the rates for internet (maybe licensing, or maybe operating fees) has been reduced by 70% !!! Anybody got the inside scoop on how RConnect users stand to benefit. The new rates come into effect from April 1. [merging post]

Sorry for being off for some days, had some family work to attend to. Anyways, i see this is going pretty well. Downsides of my camera - 1. Drains batteries like anything (i think its a general problem of digcams) 2. Has no proper lens cover Upsides - 1. The price... 2. Great prints at 5" x 7" also (dont believe the advertised stuff) 3. An additional 128 MB card (Rs. 750) is enough for 150 BEST quality or 600 GOOD (1024x768) photos. So its a great buy. Nikon is the better camera, no doubt (especially the great Coolpix 3700). But price is a great consideration, and the fact that most of us intend to use digcams as an alternative to the regular family film camera. Hence Kodak it is. Hurrah for aggressive pricing. P.S. It would be great if others would share information on their camera model.

Really interesting topic, guys. I'm in Chandigarh, and me and my friends here would take this to newer heights, if only we knew the exact how-tos of it all. Anybody forthcoming with the information. Post details here, or make a webpage and provide the link. Thanks a lot.

I got a better idea, why not have a fixed price of 50 paise or 65 paise or whatever per MB. That ways, its going to be really flexible. For this Reliance can also have a minimum stipulated billing, like Rs. 250-300 maybe. Because currently, the Rs. 5/MB after the Freedom plan usage is complete is a little too steep. What say folks? And also, any way in which we can get our ideas across to the Reliance people. They just might like some of them (honestly, it works sometimes).

Apart from surfing, if you download dedicatedly, the amount of data recieved (and sent) ranges from anywhere between 15MB to 30MB per hour. So, its simple - Freedom plan for surfers, and Platinum for downloaders. Even here, I have Freedom plan, I surf and locate downloadable items, then I tell my friend (who has the Platinum plan), and he downloads it.

Actually, Realiance billing is indeed bad, I have suffered, but I got my bill adjusted. As for speed/connectivity/service, RConnect is way above decent. I get DL speeds of 8-12 KBps easily. As for GPRS, its a viable option only for those with the newer sets (EDGE enabled I think). Otherwise, GPRS speed is pathetic, as webmaster1963 pointed out.
-
The average per hour works out to 5-6 MB per hour for surfing (multi-tabbed). I mean average.... So that means roughly 5 odd hours per day of surfing, no way 24hrs! If one connects ONLY Messengers (Yahoo, MSN, etc), then maybe 24hrs is possible, but only just. So its as per usage. The newer plan - Rs. 900 for 1.5 GB is aimed at the 'multi-tabbed' surfer I guess. Wait for broadband, coz with Reliance broadband coming up, they are bound to reduce RConnect rates. Happy (controlled) surfing!

My FWP does not get detected automatically. I use Win XP Pro and have tried out both the COM and USB cables. Please help!!!
-
I'm using FWP (LG-LSP 340E on COM port). Sometimes, the phone goes "Out of Service Area" and then comes back in the service area almost immediately. RConnect gets disconnected, and wont reconnect because "modem is responding or port is busy". Only solution is to restart, and it gets quite frustrating. Anybody with a solution? Thanking you in advance.
-
I'm using XP Professional. It keeps asking for the CD when I run "sfc /scannow". But does not accept the CD. Any ideas?
-
Sometimes my phone suddenly "goes out of service area" and comes back in immediately. Thus, I get disconnected, and it does not reconnect until the system is restarted. This is getting to be increasingly frustrating.
-
I am using FWP LG-LSP340e and usually get download speeds of 8K. P2P software go beyond 10K most of the times. It always shows "Connected at 115.2 kbps" . Does anybody have any tweaks for increasing the speed?
-
I use Magitime, gives accurate, I checked my CDRs at the Reliance office myself. So use Magitime.
-
Go to their main office in your city and talk to some guy in charge. Dont lose your cool the first time, at least thats how I handled it. They seem to have been taught to try to ignore as many requests for bill-adjustments as possible. Reliance S U C K S big time, really.

ONCE AGAIN it happened that I got bugged by the beeping sound and pinged a particular site. The connection went dead after a couple of minutes. Pinging the server address (variable for every time you connect) does not seem to give this problem, not as yet though.
-
Well, I had to go their main office (NOT Webworld) in my city (chandigarh). I explained the whole thing to them. It took a decent bit of standing firm, and in the end they calculated the excess, and filled up the waiver form (yes, they have those), and I got my waiver. At least I've been promised, I'll check back in a few days. Though I must say that at least they wont lie on the face. Better still, try to get the contact number of your area manager. Its his direct responsiblity, and they try to make sure that they do not lose customers of their area. Thats what my friend did. P.S. My friend countered them on their basic concept of jumping the pulse if RConnect is dormant for 10 seconds. His bill was reduced by a significant amount.

I've been studying Computer Science Engineering for 3years now. For us, the proverbial book says it very clearly '1GB=1024MB' Whether its RAM or Hard Disk or Floppy Disk, increments are always in terms of 1024, which is 2 raised to the power 10. Its basic computing. Whether its a law or not, remains to be seen, though my opinion is the courts will see 1GB=1024MB.
