  1. I had raised this question in a different context but could not get a clear answer and hence raising again. Can a Palm Treo CDMA model be used in Reliance? I have been so used to the Palm OS and organiser that I actually use the old Palm Handheld Zire 71. The Palm Treo models such as Treo 650 and later versions can be used in the GSM services only in India but in USA there are several Treo models for CDMA services. Can these be used in India for Reliance CDMA is my question. Friends, any tips/solutions/suggestions? Any comment or guidance also welcome! Thanks!Lets see if I progress further in this interesting issue. I had considered the UT 6700 smart phone but my comfort with the Palm OS makes the Palm models more attractive to me.
  2. Can A Palm Treo Cdma Model Be Used In Reliance?

Hi Hetal, I saw the photos of HTC Kaiser and it is a gorgeous model with features way beyond the existing models. The sliding keyboard, the 2.8mp camera, etc. were all features that makes the model attractive and with the HTC company behind it which, as I was surprised to learn a couple of months back, actually makes the Imate, O2, etc. All the best!.And do post your review and experience of this model when you get it and use it!
  3. Can A Palm Treo Cdma Model Be Used In Reliance?

You hit the proverbial nail right on the head! Many of (including me) are thrilled at a couple of thousand rupees of talk time but end up with very poor quality of handsets and service which finally results in net loss.
  4. Can A Palm Treo Cdma Model Be Used In Reliance?

You are right. but what has happened for me (and i am sure for many others) is that at home and at office, I have ensured that others also have reliance phones to save costs because of on net packages of sms and calls. If I have to shift to GSM, it means that I have to shift the whole bundle and thus consider the loss of such facilities, costs of new mobiles for all, informing all of new numbers, etc!! So, on balance, it seems that I should wait for the PPC 6800 (to get the latest technology) and keep the small hope alive that CDMA operators start thinking more of their customers!! Thanks. By the time 6800 will be in India surely when obsolete world over. Reliance is selling 6700 after obsoleted only. So dont keep high hopes, it hurts. Ya. what to do? Just bought my 6265 a couple of months ago (in replacement of a thoroughly lousy LG chocolate). so my gadgets budget for 2007 is already exceeded!

  6. I hope this is not a stupid question but I am not getting the solution after having (i) read the user manual (ii) searched through the posts here. My problem is that while listening to songs on my 6265, the display light remains full on. it does not even dim, far from going to sleep. i am not touching any of the buttons while listening. the net effect is that by about 60 minutes, the battery is almost 20% from about 90%. My display settings are that I have kept backlight to go off in 10 second and I have also kept the sleep mode to be on. This works when my mobile is on standby but while listening to music, the backlight remains on and I think that is the chief cause of my battery draining. Where am I doing something wrong? Any ideas?! Thanks in advance.
  7. How To Switch Off Backlight While Listening To Songs?

You were right Anuragz, i was making the mistake of going to the list of song through the Gallery just like windows explorer and clicking on the song i wanted! I used the music player and the backlight went off at my programmed period. Your logic was also impeccable that media player may play videos for which the back light should not switch off. Incidentally, this, as afar as i searched the user manual, is not there in manual. Sorry for late reply. I read your reply and wanted to test before reply but 2 days passed before i could access net. Thanks a lot, Anuragz! but while on this, then, the fact that KumaarShah can program his 6265 to have backlight off remains unexplained. Of course my problem is solved - thanks again - but only wondering academically.
  8. How To Switch Off Backlight While Listening To Songs?

    Ok, Thanks, Kumaar Shah!
  9. How To Switch Off Backlight While Listening To Songs?

I may also add that the problem also exists if i listen via blue tooth headset. But there is no such problem if I listen to the radio!
  10. Can A Palm Treo Cdma Model Be Used In Reliance?

kshah, this is very very interesting. Can one actually use a GSM Treo 650 over Reliance CDMA network? I wouldnt have believed it possible at first but there are people in this Forum (see the post of Tanveer above) who swear by you. This should be really great.
  11. Can A Palm Treo Cdma Model Be Used In Reliance?

Thanks again, Dheeraj, for your insights and for the trouble you are taking on this. And I noted that you have the best of both worlds (I presume that the two phones shown in your signature are those you use) - Windows Mobile Phone and Treo 650 - a dream combination. Just one last question, if you are familiar with a comparable device like Imate K Jam, how would compare the hardware and the software of UT 6700 and this Imate model. Friends of mine who use this KJam cant stop praising it though in comparison with, say, my 6265, there is no radio, poorer audio/music, poorer camera, etc. But I want to compare UT 6700 with KJam. If you know, please share. Thanks again.
  12. Can A Palm Treo Cdma Model Be Used In Reliance?

I think your "two cents" worth is very insightful and thoughtout indeed and while it reduces my false hopes of having the treo cdma model for Reliance. it will now at least not result in my not wasting time in this direction. Thanks for your experienced and valuable advice. My reason to use a PDA is that i depend on the calendar/tasks/memos structure (I am a fanatic fan of GTD system of David Allen) of Palm and windows mobile based devices. Palm based devices have been generally very fast, with low demands on hardware and battery and generally the applications and the OS is sturdy. My earlier experience with windows based mobiles was disappointing (though it was always second hand and a little more than one year now). My reading of posts in this forum made me feel that while the UT 6700 was quite good generally there seemed to be battery problems. Right now I am using a 6265 with a palm organiser and I wanted to replace it with a common device. Anyway, thanks again. Let me brood a little more and then take a decision.
  13. Can A Palm Treo Cdma Model Be Used In Reliance?

Yes. that is true. But can one use these CDMA Palm models in Reliance? I have used a Treo 650 in GSM without any problems including GPRS. But what about using the CDMA models in Reliance? Any idea or suggestion? Thanks for the reply!
  14. Can A Palm Treo Cdma Model Be Used In Reliance?

Yes, Tanveer, I see, though I am a new member here, that these are the stalwarts. I had originally planned to shift to UT6700 but was reluctant to do so, being a Palm OS user since many years now, wholly satisfied. I eagerly look forward to their comments whenever they have time to do so and if they have noticed. If not, I will PM them!
  15. Can A Palm Treo Cdma Model Be Used In Reliance?

I note that there has been discussion on this site about many other non-Reliance CDMA phones activation about Reliance. But I cannot find a conclusive answer - Yes or No!

  19. This is not a big irritant but still I find my Nokia 6265 repeatedly at intervals switches on the backlight and shows the location. Problem is that during meetings or even while during work, it distracts you from what you are doing to check out why this happens - some sms, call, etc. Any idea how to stop this? As i said it is not a really big problem but if someone readily knows the answer, i will be thankful if he shares it please!
  20. Thanks to all. Replies were very educative. Actually, the "problem" arises while I am just sitting in office but i think as what was said above, if the link to the network breaks (and with Reliance, it somehow often does even if stationary), when it gets back, it must be showing the location. I tried out what Rajesh Soni said that if I dont clear it, it will not show again. That, I think, is working. it was true that as soon as I saw the light, i used to pick up the phone and check what happened and then clear it. so it repeated! I get the point of Rajesh that it is not a bug but a feature. Thanks again!
  21. LG RD 8000 Chocolate Phone

I normally avoid giving negative posts in forums but I agree so much with you about the totally useless chocolate model that I have to add something to your views. I had used till now LG models only and I thought rather than shifting to Nokia which would have a different system of using, let me upgrade to LG only. I was disappointed thoroughly in every way - even the phone system was different and I had to try to learn things anew. Calls were made on their own since the touch screen was too sensitive. it is a model for righthanded persons only. there is no call end button so you have to push a button at the side that is good for right handed persons only and in any case it is too small. the touch screen is so sensitive that it calls just by an accidental touch and then suddenly I hear "voices" in my pocket - the frustrated replies of persons to whom i have called. Do not want to talk more and relive my nightmare. within 20 days, i went back to my friendly dealer and after many visits i was able to exchange it for a Nokia 6265 (please do not ask me how much loss i made - sigh!!!!!). All things said. Nokia 6265 was much better than others though I think for me, the FM radio, mp3, and camera are useless - not only i do not need them, but even their quality is quite poor (my personal opinion not shared by all though). DONT BUY THIS MODEL. DONT EVEN BUY THE NEW ONES - THE SO-CALLED COMMUNICATORS ALSO - unless you are given a seven day trial.
  22. true I do not agree to the view that existing pop, etc. accounts are not supported. i do not also understand what you mean by "they have push mail support". I have a blackberry and it supports my vsnl, gmail, yahoo, eth.net. etc. accounts. not all of the above emails are mine - some are of family members who do not access emails all the time and since i have ten accounts possible in blackberry i have added them and when a mail comes, i tell them about the mail. so blackberry does support pop accounts. question is about the huge subscription charges which i believe is mainly because of blackberry's huge royalty cut rather than airtel or hutch charges. anyway, the amount of rs. 1000 or so per month is prohibitive.
  23. WAITING FOR SOME HELP ON THIS BASIC ISSUE. FEEL DEPRESSED WHEN OTHERS ARE MERRILY SENDING SMS AND I CANNOT FIGURE OUT THIS BASIC ISSUE.
  24. I am an individual (meaning not part of a company) and I want to buy this model for personal use. I had called up Reliance help and I was told that it was not meant for individual use. is that so? While GSM users have many PDA phones to choose from, this is the only one for Reliance users. Can I buy and use this model? What if I get this model from someone abroad or through private purchase? Will I be able to use it. I know this is a very basic question but hope someone clarifies. Thanks very much!

Thanks Tanveer and Supernova. I am already in touch with him and he is prompt in his replies. I am new to this Forum but I see he has quite a following! He must be a great guy!
