Tata Docomo Launched
vvinayakpai replied to lostjournal's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
The pricing is good. I would say that this is only introductory offer from TATA GSM. Do not read too much into this offer. This offer would have its effect only if TATA introduces this/similar tariff on its CDMA network as well. -

Reliance GSM - Problems ! Problems ! & Problems!
vvinayakpai replied to ipkonfig's topic in Miscellaneous
The GSM connection is deteriorating in quality day by day. At least for two hours in a day, there is no network coverage on my phone. Repeated complaints to the customer care have turned a deaf ear. Also, sometimes, the phone shows full network, but the moment i start dialling a number, the network falls off to zero and displays "No network coverage". I have decided that I am not going to continue with their GSM services after my account expires in July, 2009. -

Wonderful dude!!! -
Fantastic plan. Especially a local tariff of 30ps/min is awesome. I think by far this is the cheapest offnet tariff by any operator.

Dot Rings Mobile Number Portability
vvinayakpai replied to coolrajiv's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
Regrding on-net mins, what the service providers can do is, they can play a small recorded voice mentioning the service provider of the person who is being called. This will give ample time for the caller to understand what the charge of the call might be(in case he has on-net free or not) -
Reliance Communications To Rope In Hrithik As Brand Ambassador
vvinayakpai replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Communications
Just because Tata uses a different branding for their GSM services, it does not mean that tata will outperform Reliance and also the same is applicable vice versa also. If Reliance is able to drive home the point to the customers that they are offering on both the CDMA and the GSM platforms, that would be the defining factor. I agree with you that as of now their advts are not self explanatory. Lets wait and see how Tata deals with multiple branding. I definitely agree with you that Reliance has a lot to do on the marketing front to drive home the point to the customers else it would lead to a confusion. I agree that the advts mentions RELIANCE GSM. But from what I have observed, CDMA and GSM are still jargons for most of the mobile users. Even now when the word RELIANCE is used, immediately people think about buying a new handset. I have observed that the easiest way to explain to people is that "Reliance is now offering mobile services which can be accessed on ordinary Nokia Phones". I find that people understand only when i tell them the above line. Reliance must device an advt which helps them bifurcate the services in terms of technology and drive home the point to the consumers. -
Reliance Communications To Rope In Hrithik As Brand Ambassador
vvinayakpai replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Communications
Let them sign in Hrithik Roshan or SRK, I dont care, as long as they provide good service in terms of network quality. In my opinion brand ambassadors dont mean much. They are there just for the initial push and after a certain period of time, the sucess of the product would depend on the quality rather than who the brand ambassador was. RCOM GSM has a lot of catching up to do with other established GSM players as well as its own CDMA network. Lets wait and see how this works out!!!!!! -

'number Portability Will Benefit In New Markets' - Idea Cellular
vvinayakpai replied to savramesh's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD. And if I am right ramesh, even Idea is a new operator in Tamil Nadu. So dont expect the smoothest of rides. If I were to choose I would still stick on to RGSM, because of the value they offer in terms of schemes etc. Moreover I have not used Idea. I prefer a known "devil"(RGSM) rather than an unknown "angel"(IDEA) -
Today I saw in the times of india, Bangalore that Reliance Netconnect 1X price has been slashed from Rs. 2490 to Rs. 1990.

Bharti Airtel Crosses 100 Million Subscriber Base
vvinayakpai posted a topic in Indian Telecom / General News
THE HINDU Online edition of India's National Newspaper Saturday, May 16, 2009 Bharti Airtel subscriber base crosses 10-crore Special Correspondent To roll-out one-lakh base station sites by year-end MILESTONE: Sunil Bharti Mittal (left), Chairman and CEO, Bharti Enterprises with partners and board members in New Delhi on Friday. NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel on Friday said it has become the first service provider to cross 10-crore subscribe base. Making this announcement here, Bharti Enterprises Chairman and Group CEO Sunil Mittal asked the government to announce a stable spectrum regime to boost growth of the telecom sector. With 10-crore subscribers, Airtel has become the third largest single country mobile services operator in the world and sixth largest integrated telecom company globally. After having started its service in 1995 as Bharti Tele-Ventures, the company crossed the 7.5-crore customer mark in August 2008 and 5-crore mark in October 2007, making it one of the fastest growing telecom company in the world. The first 2.5-crore subscribers were achieved in July 2006. “The Indian telecom sector, seen as providing the most affordable services in the world, has grown by leaps and bounds in the last decade. We are proud to have led the telecom revolution that made a positive impact on the lives of people in every corner of the country as well as the Indian economy,” Mr. Mittal added. Targeting 20-crore subscribers in the next 2-3 years, Airtel will be undertaking a series of network augmentation and customer service initiatives. “We will roll-out over one-lakh base station sites by this year-end to set up wider and deeper network coverage across the country and establish a state-of-the-art customer service management centre, besides setting up one-lakh Airtel service centres in rural areas by March 2010,” he said. Airtel at present has 25 per cent subscriber share and 30 per cent market share in terms of revenue. It is only behind two Chinese operators in terms of subscriber size measured within a country. -
Mtnl Gets Initiative
vvinayakpai replied to Himanshu Singh's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Reliance offers better options to the customers in this avenue. STD as well as Local at 50ps/min after the first minute. And that too at an additional expense of Rs. 39/month -
I would also recommend a LG rather than a Nokia. Agreed that Nokia is the undisputed leader in GSM, but the same coveted position is held by LG in the CDMA segment.

Please suggest a basic Cdma Mobile
vvinayakpai replied to reliancecdma's topic in Handset Suggestions
I had a look at the handset at a nearby Reliance Communications oulet. Beautiful and a cute looking handset!!! A smart handset for basic handset lovers.......... Anybody used it? Any user reviews???? -
In karnataka also, Rs. 21 has been introduced. Rs. 45 offers talktime of Rs. 20 and night calling from Reliance to reliance is free. Rs. 21 offers zero talktime and Reliance to Reliance night calling is charged at 5ps/min Call rates for both the tariffs remain the same except the night calling benefit.

All Local Calls@60 Paise For Rs.24/month
vvinayakpai replied to Himanshu Singh's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
A sell off is impossible. Consider this, if they sell CDMA, then they will be losing the netconnect business which has an added advantage compared to the same service offered by the GSM subscribers. Also, considering the past history of Reliance, they have never exited businesses completely unless forced by circumstances totally out of their control (eg. the plan to acquire L&T). Definetely, I agree that past history is history and there are possiblities that history maybe resripted or rewritten in totality. But this would be a point against he rumours. If they were anytime keen to exit the CDMA business, they would not have introduced the Netconnect Broadband, which is a headache for the company considering the fact that COAI has approached the Govt against the launch of Tata's photon and Reliance's Netconnect Broadband. Now, even though the company has an inclination towards their GSM subscribers, I am sure that over a period of time when MNP is implemented, both the technologies will offer very similar, in fact the same tariffs. The main reason why such freebies are extended towards the GSM subscribers is that it is a newer network with a lot of inherrent problems. Even though the company claims it to be a congestion free network, it has problems like the network dissapearing all of a sudded never to return for hours together. SO they want to keep the subscribers happy by offering a lower tariff. I also feel sad sometimes when seeing some of the offers like the STD sms offer in GSM, but I would say that the right time to reach a final decision regarding quitting CDMA (from a consumers point of view) should be taken by the consumer only after the implementation of MNP. In the rarest of rare cases, even if Reliance quits CDMA space, then definitely we have other options like TATA CDMA and also MTS, which are reputed brands as well. So if u r concerned about CDMA being ditched in India, I must say there is not problem in this regard at all, and all is well. -
I had immense faith in RCOM until now. But now after the step motherly treatment towards CDMA, I am going to purchase a open handset and look at options like MTS and Tata Indicom as well. Definitely I will wait till MNP is implemented. The problem is that after using the CDMA technology, I am not at all comfortable with GSM (especially the voice clarity)
-
RCOM is concentrating on GSM and neglecting CDMA. None of these offers are available in CDMA.

Dial *777# From Your Gsm Reliance Phone For An Array Of Options
vvinayakpai posted a topic in Miscellaneous
Today I was playing with my RGSM mobile phone and i happened to dial *777# from my mobile. I was surprised to see a variety of options 1.VOICE PACKS 2. SMS PACKS 3. AUTO ACTIVE 4. CURRENT TARIFF 5. VAS SERVICES I entered the VOICE PACKS option and these were the sub-menus provided 1. Local R-Others call rate @50p 2. STD R-R@ 40p 3. STD R-Others @75p 4. Night calls R-R free But these submenus have not been updated appropriately. It requires repeated attempts to get into these menus because each time i got an error message, i rentered the whole procedure and was able to get into the menu and read the stuff. But due to lack of time and the patience to update all the sub-menu contents I restrain myself from updating this info. I request other rimwebians to keep updating this as soon as more information is made available by Reliance I then tried the SMS PACKS option 1. JAADU 20 Local SMS R-R @ 0.25p and R-Others @ 0.50p Accessing this menu was absolutely free and I was not charged. -
