Tdsat Upholds Dual Technology For Reliance Communications
vvinayakpai replied to ravi_patent's topic in Miscellaneous
Definitely we can expect some more publicising of RGSM in the near future. But this cannot be attributed to this judgement. RGSM had not resorted to publicity stunts for the launch and advertisement of their GSM services because the Customer Experience Pack (CEP) was revenue negative, and added to that the advertisement costs would have cost RCOM dear. I think with the eventual phasing out of CEP, and introduction of long term tariffs, definitely RCOM will step on the gas to advertise its GSM services nationwide. -

Tdsat Upholds Dual Technology For Reliance Communications
vvinayakpai replied to ravi_patent's topic in Miscellaneous
Thats exactly the reason why the services were launch "6months ahead of schedule". They had resorted to the same trick during the CDMA launch. Remember the "Monsoon Hungama" offer for Rs. 501? This was aimed at attracting more and more customers to Reliance Infocomm subscriber base. The court then had almost come to the conclusion that the entry of Rel Infocomm was not through legal channels offering full mobility services through the CDMA technology. Reliance, then quickly increased their subscriber base through the Monsoon Hungama and made a case for the almost one million customers on their network at that point of time. It was only after this contention was accepted by the court that Reliance had to pay the requisite fees of Rs. 1651 crores along with a hefty fine for offering Full Mobility services. This is also an action replay, GSM services were launched ahead of schedule so that even if this case was lost, they can make a case for their millions of subscribers, and they can get away with paying a fine and other penalties. The same thing lies even if COAI goes in for an appeal aganst the TDSAT decision. -
Trai Unlikely To Pare Inter-connect Charges Drastically
vvinayakpai replied to ravi_patent's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Any information whether RCOM is going to reduce their tariffs after the termination costs are cut? ALso, have the new termination costs been approved by the DoT? This is because the COAI has already filed a case against the termination costs when it was fixed at 30ps/min when it was fixed in 2003. That judgement is due anytime from TDSAT. If that judgement is ruled in favour of COAI, then the current TRAI order to further reduce the termination costs to 20ps/min will automatically be nullified. COAI had filed a case that the termination costs, according to international best practices must be fixed at at least 35ps/min. Even though TRAI has suggested these changes in the termination rates with effect from April 1st, 2009, it has to be approved by the Department of Telecom. Now with election coming in the way, I am not sure whether the Government would be forbidden from approving the order keeping in mind the poll of conduct. As suspected, BSNL has filed an appeal in TDSAT against the TRAI order specifying the termination costs to mobiles and landlines at 20ps/min. BSNL\'s plea is that termination costs to landlines have to be higher as the cost incurred structure is different for a landline from a mobile phone. BSNL is of the contention that the landline termination costs have to be at least 3-4 times the termination costs of a mobile. Somebody had to play spoilsport in this party!!!!!!!! COAI joins in the fight against TRAI. http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/006200903301811.htm -

The MTS India now indicates that the services have been launched in Kerala. When I clicked on KERALA, it displayed the following message, "MTS. Now In Kerala" But the tariff and voucher details have not been updated. SO most probably the official launch will happen on March 29th or 30th. -

Mts Launches Services In Tamil Nadu
vvinayakpai replied to vvinayakpai's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
This is from the MTS india website form the FAQ section: Q2. How do I check my balance after a recharge or after making calls? After every chargeable event you make on your account, MTS will send you an SMS with your new balance. If you wish to check your balance at any time, dial 177 (toll free) from your phone and select option ‘2’ for balance enquiry. Please call MTS Care at 155 for terms and conditions regarding your account validity and minimum recharge requirements. It clearly mentions that after every chargeable call a message is sent notifying the customer about the current balance. In 6 yrs of providing CDMA services on a pan India basis, Reliance and Tata have not been able to provide these services........ -

Regarding call charges the Special Tariff vouchers are advantageous to people making mostly on-net calls. But amazing National SMS schemes for as low as Rs. 30. Looks like BSNL is facing the heat of competition from the private operators. Way to go for the consumers!!!!!!! -
Sistema Launch On Schedule

Shyam places its bets on in-building coverage in TN 24 Mar 2009, 2047 hrs IST, Niranjana Ramesh, ET Bureau CHENNAI: Shyam Sistema Teleservices (SSTS), which had announced plans to invest US $5 billion in Indian telecom, will begin with the launching of its telecom services in Tamil Nadu on Thursday. This joint venture between telecom equipment manufacturer and service provider Shyam Group and Russian telecom company Sistema SSA has placed its bets on in-building coverage in the state and Chennai city, according to sources. Enterprise customers, particularly in Chennai city, are known to have had problems with in-building coverage with increase in saturation and congestion of the networks. It will be this segment that Shyam Sistema aims to capture through its network. The company will launch mobile CDMA, fixed wireline and broadband services in Tamil Nadu and Chennai as separate circles, even though the company holds a combined license for the two regions. CDMA is said to have an intrinsic advantage over GSM when it comes to in-building coverage. “We have secured a few corporate contracts for our broadband service in Chennai to kick start our operations in the enterprise sector,” sources close to the company told ET. The company has tied up with Tata Telservices, Reliance Communications and Aircel for sharing of telecom towers, in areas where Shyam Sistema found it unviable to build a network. It has laid out its own optical fibre network for its broadband services, though. The services will be launched under the brand MTS (mobile telesystems), which is the Russian partner’s subsidiary brand. Shyam Sistema had acquired licences and spectrum to provide CDMA mobile services in 22 circles in the country last year. It has 5 lakh subscribers in the Rajasthan circle where it launched three months ago. Sistema holds majority stake of 73.71 percent in the joint venture, with 2.5 percent of the being publicly held, and the rest by Shyam Group. It has been reported earlier that the Russian government is in advanced talks with Shyam Sistema to pick up a 20 percent stake in the company for Rs.34.32 billion. The services will be rolled out first in major cities – Chennai, Madurai, Salem, Trichy and Coimbatore, followed by 100 other towns and villages. Company authorities, when contacted, declined details, but confirmed launch of the service on the 26th. -
