You have to get it enabled from the backend. Contact the RWorld from where you bought the handset.

I got a replacement handset and everything seems better in this. I was able to get the GPS lock too by keeping the phone on the roof for about 2 minutes. Thanks everyone for the help.

This is interesting. Do all OMH cards have this AGPS server information or is it only the OMH cards that are bundled with i899 that have this information? I guess if it requires a specific OMH card or OMH activation from samsung i899 , then I need to do that. I could not dial *228 from i899 because it did not let me enter the digits (the message "Activation in progress" blocked the dialpad.

Thanks, I have tried this, but I found that the values are not saved after reboot/after some time. The service centre blamed the OMH card , but when I went back home and tried with a different OMH card the result is same. I have to go back to the service centre tomorrow.

Looks like the GPS problem is common to all samsung galaxy phones. See here and here

yea your kinda right but this phone has GPS not A-GPS... so there are few things you should know before ur phone can fix your position. 1)instal gps test 2)open the gps test app and wait for it to get the fix 2)stay in a open place (trees, buldings etc will make it worst) 3)wait for sometime for the gps to fix ur position (from few seconds to even minutes if there r many obstructions) 4)if that didnt work restart your phone and repeat from step 2 5)after the position is fixed just go into google maps and use it. i tried it and it workd pal. trust me Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it , but somehow it just does not catch the signal, wheres my other android phone (HTC) catches 8 satellites in the same place , even when AssistedGPS is turned off and only GPS is turned on in the HTC one. I have taken the handset to samsung service centre, they couldn't do anything. I am planning to take it to the other centre.

The GPS on my i899 does not work at all. I have tried it outdoors too and with lots of apps including GPS Test, GPS Status, GPS Toolbox. Also the Assisted GPS (using wireless networks) has been disabled on this handset. Anyone else facing the same problems?

I heard from customer care that EVDO for this handset is only available when you connect the mobile to the computer. Otherwise from the handset it is 1xRTT. Is it true?

Help Me For Skype On Mobile
raharsha replied to keanu_reeves's topic in General Technical Discussion
You can use nimbuzz on any Java enabled phone. It has support for multiple chat clients and for voice calls to them. http://www.nimbuzz.com -
It uses QSC http://www.cdmatech.com/singlechip which is used in Tata's Samsung Explore (which I bought recently) and Motorola F3c , both of which are super slim. Everyone including me was impressed with this technology which allows so many features (for eg in samsung explore - multimedia, camera, FM, memory card, internet browser) etc all built into such a slim form factor with good power management and low cost.

I-mate Unveils The Jama Pda
raharsha replied to coolrajiv's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
In this networked web 2.0 world, where anything and everything can be done online, there is less and less of a need for carrying huge laptops. For most tasks, all you need is a browser (search, email, IM, document editing, photo sharing, news feed reading, blogging, banking, ticket booking, social networking, even listening to music etc). With almost feature complete mobile browsers like opera mini 4 available for free, the convenience of doing all that from the light weight mobile beats the experience of carrying your bulky laptop around. I am sure you must have tried opera mini 4 beta, if not give it a try. For the battery problem, I am searching for solutions - I found some chargers which operate on AA cells, and some battery packs from APC which do the same. -

What Internet Connection Are You Using?
raharsha replied to rEdshiFt's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
I am using Reliance WIMAX broadband from past 15 days. It has been pretty good. I have taken the 2MBPS 4GB Rs 750 plan. The installation charges are Rs 562. The only negatives I have found are it requires web based login when you boot up, and you have to do DHCP release and renew to get it going.
