You have to get it enabled from the backend. Contact the RWorld from where you bought the handset.

I got a replacement handset and everything seems better in this. I was able to get the GPS lock too by keeping the phone on the roof for about 2 minutes. Thanks everyone for the help.

This is interesting. Do all OMH cards have this AGPS server information or is it only the OMH cards that are bundled with i899 that have this information? I guess if it requires a specific OMH card or OMH activation from samsung i899 , then I need to do that. I could not dial *228 from i899 because it did not let me enter the digits (the message "Activation in progress" blocked the dialpad.

Thanks, I have tried this, but I found that the values are not saved after reboot/after some time. The service centre blamed the OMH card , but when I went back home and tried with a different OMH card the result is same. I have to go back to the service centre tomorrow.

Looks like the GPS problem is common to all samsung galaxy phones. See here and here

yea your kinda right but this phone has GPS not A-GPS... so there are few things you should know before ur phone can fix your position. 1)instal gps test 2)open the gps test app and wait for it to get the fix 2)stay in a open place (trees, buldings etc will make it worst) 3)wait for sometime for the gps to fix ur position (from few seconds to even minutes if there r many obstructions) 4)if that didnt work restart your phone and repeat from step 2 5)after the position is fixed just go into google maps and use it. i tried it and it workd pal. trust me Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it , but somehow it just does not catch the signal, wheres my other android phone (HTC) catches 8 satellites in the same place , even when AssistedGPS is turned off and only GPS is turned on in the HTC one. I have taken the handset to samsung service centre, they couldn't do anything. I am planning to take it to the other centre.

The GPS on my i899 does not work at all. I have tried it outdoors too and with lots of apps including GPS Test, GPS Status, GPS Toolbox. Also the Assisted GPS (using wireless networks) has been disabled on this handset. Anyone else facing the same problems?

I heard from customer care that EVDO for this handset is only available when you connect the mobile to the computer. Otherwise from the handset it is 1xRTT. Is it true?

Help Me For Skype On Mobile
raharsha replied to keanu_reeves's topic in General Technical Discussion
You can use nimbuzz on any Java enabled phone. It has support for multiple chat clients and for voice calls to them. http://www.nimbuzz.com -
It uses QSC http://www.cdmatech.com/singlechip which is used in Tata's Samsung Explore (which I bought recently) and Motorola F3c , both of which are super slim. Everyone including me was impressed with this technology which allows so many features (for eg in samsung explore - multimedia, camera, FM, memory card, internet browser) etc all built into such a slim form factor with good power management and low cost.

I-mate Unveils The Jama Pda
raharsha replied to coolrajiv's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
In this networked web 2.0 world, where anything and everything can be done online, there is less and less of a need for carrying huge laptops. For most tasks, all you need is a browser (search, email, IM, document editing, photo sharing, news feed reading, blogging, banking, ticket booking, social networking, even listening to music etc). With almost feature complete mobile browsers like opera mini 4 available for free, the convenience of doing all that from the light weight mobile beats the experience of carrying your bulky laptop around. I am sure you must have tried opera mini 4 beta, if not give it a try. For the battery problem, I am searching for solutions - I found some chargers which operate on AA cells, and some battery packs from APC which do the same. -

What Internet Connection Are You Using?
raharsha replied to rEdshiFt's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
I am using Reliance WIMAX broadband from past 15 days. It has been pretty good. I have taken the 2MBPS 4GB Rs 750 plan. The installation charges are Rs 562. The only negatives I have found are it requires web based login when you boot up, and you have to do DHCP release and renew to get it going. -
Basic steps are described at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BluetoothDialup for ubuntu linux. I give below files that work with reliance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- cat /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf # # RFCOMM configuration file. # rfcomm0 { # Automatically bind the device at startup bind yes; # Bluetooth address of the device (change it suitably) device 00:12:D2:......; # RFCOMM channel for the connection channel 1; # Description of the connection comment "Nokia 6265 Bluetooth device"; } ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- cat /etc/chatscripts/BluetoothDialup # abortstring ABORT 'NO CARRIER' ABORT 'ERROR' ABORT 'NO DIALTONE' ABORT 'BUSY' ABORT 'NO ANSWER' # modeminit '' ATZ # ispnumber OK-AT-OKL3 ATDT#777 # ispconnect CONNECT \d\c ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- cat /etc/ppp/peers/bluetooth-reliance hide-password debug noauth defaultroute connect '/usr/sbin/chat -v -f /etc/chatscripts/BluetoothDialup' usepeerdns /dev/rfcomm0 115200 connect-delay 10000 user '93xxxxxxxx' password '93xxxxxxxx' lcp-echo-failure 4 lcp-echo-interval 65535s 115200 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Condensed steps sudo apt-get install bluez-utils bluez-pin ppp bluez-gnome hcitool scan sudo hcitool cc your-phone-mac-address sudo hcitool auth your-phone-mac-address sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart sudo adduser your-username-here dialout pon bluetooth-reliance ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Logout and login to your session to see the bluetooth icon when the dongle is inserted. This enables entering the passkey on the computer which should match the passkey entered on the phone for the pairing to happen.

When we change the theme, the profile settings get changed too, especially annoying is the fact that ringtones change even for the custom profile. How can we avoid this? Can we have themes which do not have ringtones?
-
I had the same problem with LG 2530. I think it is related to the fact that "Groups" can have individual ring tones. Try removing all custom ring tones for the different groups (Family, Friends, Colleagues etc).

Overseas roaming on CDMA phones ALOKANANDA GHOSH Calcutta, May 31: CDMA subscribers will now be able to avail of international roaming facilities in countries offering services on the same platform. Reliance Infocomm has already started providing international roaming in China and the US last week. It plans to extend the facility to Australia, Korea, Japan, Israel and Brazil in the next two to three months. “We plan to offer international roaming in all the countries that offer mobile services on the CDMA platform,” said a Reliance Infocomm spokesperson. “In Europe, which is predominantly a GSM market, we will integrate the CDMA network with that of GSM of Reliance Telecom to provide the roaming facility.” Tata Teleservices, the second private CDMA operator in the country, has also entered into a tie-up with US-based Syniverse to offer international roaming for voice services and SMS to its subscribers. Till now, Reliance India Mobile (RIM) subscribers had to avail of roaming through a GSM tri-band handset and a Removable User Identification Module (RUIM) card, which could be used on the CDMA network as well. The telecom major also plans to roll out its network in Jammu and Kashmir by the year-end and is in the process of laying its fibre optic network in the state. “Another major step towards providing 3G services on the CDMA network is upgrading to EV-DO (Evolution Data Optimised) that will allow data communication at a speed of 2.5 mbps on mobile handsets,” said the spokesperson. “This network will be ready by December. Currently, the speed is around 144 kbps. The rollout will, however, depend on spectrum allocation.” http://www.telegraphindia.com/1050601/asp/...ory_4811156.asp

http://www.voicendata.com/content/vndtoday/105012401.asp Debunking the family drama at Reliance Industries, Reliance Infocomm on 24 January 2005 unveiled its expansion plan for the next one year. The CDMA operator plans to empower four lakh villages with telecom connectivity by December 2005. With this coverage, Reliance Infocomm plans to connect almost 65 crore people. "India lives in villages and we are taking our network to them," said Kamal Nanavaty, COO wireless business, Reliance Infocomm. Much of reliance's expansion plan depends on the 80,000 Rkm fiber optic being laid by the group. "Though the expansion would involve both microwave and fiber, our strength would be the 80,000 Rkm of OFC we are planning by end of this project," said V Sridhar, head project control, Reliance Infocomm. Currently reliance has 10.3 million subscribers and covers 1,700 towns and 75,000 villages. This would be ramped up to 5,700 villages. The company would also pass on the benefits of ADC cut to the customers. "Our new tariffs would be in place by 1 February 2005. But our pre-paid rates are already among the lowest," Nanavaty added. Commenting on Wi-Fi and WiMax, Arun Sood, group head, wireless networks, said: "We are evaluating 3G technologies with greater coverage, rather than Wi-Fi and WiMax with limited coverage. We are ready with our EVDO plans and as soon as we get frequency from WPC we would roll out EVDO."
