Blackberry Tour 9630 Aka Niagara Launched with Reliance
nandusharma replied to Sadikk's topic in BlackBerry
well EVDO on BlackBerry is real. I traveled recently from Cochin to coimbatore by road. My phone showed EV1X in both these cities and in all the way i beween it was just 1X. The speed of the browser seems to be much higher than even EDGE when it showed EV and slower during 1X. But only Tour has this feature.. 8330 still shows only 1X and is slower. -
Blackberry Tour 9630 Aka Niagara Launched with Reliance

Got Tour 9630 on 25th. I was using Curve 8330 earlier. from the time time i switched tour on it was showing EV1X instread of 1X on Curve. The speed also seems to be much faster. In fact near wifi speed which my colleague gets on his GSM Blackberry handseat. i wonder if this is EVDO. I understood in Reliance the only EVDO service was the netconnect broadband USB modem. I am from Cochin in Kerala. have they done a soft launch of EVDO on BlackBerry handsets? -
Sir, could you tell me the latest version of the OS for Curve 8330? I have 4.5.0.127...

How to check usage on Reliance Netconnect broadband?
nandusharma replied to worldcom123's topic in Data services
I took up this issue of not being able to get the password since there is no voice/messaging facilities in the broadband plus modem. I was told that they have escalated the issue and would have a solution within a few days. I am more concerned with paying bills online than with checaking usage. By the way, the speed rocks!!!! -
You must have activated BIS push mail. And you probable browse on the phone using the web browser. No wonder you would have to pay per kB charges. Call *363 (you can reach this only if you have subscribed to BB BIS. Tell them to deactivate Blackberry services. They will do that within minutes. Of course, you can only use your phone after that for voice calls/sms. Then you would get only voice call bills/sms.

I had a message from Reliance that my blackberry services will be suspended for five hours on Saturday (14th March) morning from 5.30 am to 10.30 am. However, customer care told me it may be suspended for 24 hrs to enable up gradation of the system. I also read on newspaper that Reliance has launched wireless broadband at high speeds (EVDO). Putting both together, it sounds like the blackberry services are also being shifted from CDMA1X to EVDO. Can anybody throw some light on this?

Amit seems to be right.. The D day came and went, and my BB is still 1X . Guess we may have to wait till the #G spectrum auction and allocation are over..

1. You do not require exchange server for BB push mail services. BIS, allows you to have push mail feature on almost all common e mail accounts like G mail, Yahoo (even Yahoo.com addresses), Hotmail and any other POP3 or IMAP accounts. You can have as much as ten email addresses configured at the same time. 2.Yes, the BB unlimited data plan is at Rs.1099 per month on reliance. 3. You can have email accounts configured on GSM phones like Nokia E71 (since the person wants QWERTY key pad),but they are cannot be push mail. (The phone can be configured to access these accounts in a periodic interval). The charges are the GPRS charges of the carrier which must be lower than that of BB. 4.As regards browsing on phone, CDMA is superior to the hitherto available EDGE on GSM phones. (At least in practice, as a person who has used both). Finally the choice depends on how importantr are e mails to you, that is do you have to answer in realtime or whether you dont mind waiting for half an hour. As regards phone, Nokia E71 has loads of features which are not available on Blackberry (GPS,Wifi, 3MP camera, FM radio). It is priced at Rs.19000 plus. A decent blackberry phone with a 2MP camera and musicplayer (my BB8330) costs 25,900 Rs. without any of the features above. You choose BB for the email services, not phone features, is the final word.

Excellent phone. Good looks, full functionality. But go for it only if you need blackberry service. If it is only for checking mail/ basic browsing, go for Nokia E71, which has loads of features like Wifi, GPS and FM radio. Any decent GPRS/Edge on GSM connection will get you the basic mail/browsing functions. The quality of blackberry push service is something else though.
