  1. Forum Software Upgraded to IP.Board 3.2

Hi Arun, Thanks this is great, the text readability is better and overall it looks a generation ahead. Few minor quirks have observed. Gifs seem to be not working in profile pic. Existing profile pics have been distorted for some. The text size in profile description is causing word wrapping can be made smaller if possible. The paste from word function does not allow tables to be pasted that was much needed functionality missing, Can it be done please. Online offline indicator not there. In users online Google, Yahoo are there not sure if this is a quirk or because they are trawling the website.

  6. Lifetime Validity Will Be Lost In 20 Days

My brother... we are in India no rules here... Off topic " Just now gone thru all news on Indian black money " WoW... you said here without notify... where? in which? how? we are notified by us properly.. we are one of the richest country... Really these operators are really sick... only politicians are... F***ers I was referring to the point mentioned in OP which says operator/TRAI will not notify the customer that number is being deactivated.
  7. Lifetime Validity Will Be Lost In 20 Days

To add, the issue is not about timeframe. The issue is, how can operator/regulator dictate what I need to do with my phone? If I am recharging i.e. fulfiling my part of the contract, the operator/regulator cannot deactivate my number because they have no right to make me use my number. Might be I am unable to explain. Consider I have postpaid number. I pay my rental according to contract but do not use. The operator/regulator cannot deactivate the number because of non usage right? So how can they in this?
  8. Lifetime Validity Will Be Lost In 20 Days

The question is what is meant by inactive - does it mean no recharge or does it mean no usage. There is already requirement to recharge once in certain amount of time else the number gets deactivated. But here the rule says If consumer recharges but does not make calls then how can it be deactivated. That is clear breach of contract and wrong. The basics for such schemes were - 1) user must recharge every n months, 2) scheme would have validity end date. If a customer is fulfilling 1)then operator must fulfil 2). I understand the issue with users hoarding numbers but that is no reason to deactivate numbers based on usage. This is wrong moreover the customer is not being informed.
  9. Lifetime Validity Will Be Lost In 20 Days

We do not have a number pool shortage yet, your point is correct but with a prepaid driven, low ARPU market like ours this move only smacks of a tactic of the operators to make sure customers are more active. My point is, when these validity schemes were introduced, they had clear validity defined. But without notifying customer if that validity is changed it is breach of contract. It is wrong.
  10. Google I/O: Ice Cream Sandwich And Much More

Google I/O: Day 1. Google is pursuing an Android everywhere strategy. The company launched an Android at Home framework, complete with its own protocol for appliances that don’t have Wi-Fi. The gist: Every appliance can be an I/O device. Android will be used in the living room initially, but LightingScience will create LED lights later this year that will work with Android. That means the home environment—stereos, home irrigation systems, lighting—can be controlled through a tablet. In addition, there’s an Open accessory API. Hardware and software will be released in a reference design so Android can be plugged into fitness equipment, robots and other devices. Honeycomb saved? The company is moving to upgrade Honeycomb quickly—some would argue fix it. Motorola Xoom users on Verizon will get the update today. An Apple a day. Google had so many Apple digs that it’s clear that the search giant is still a bit obsessed. The subtext here is that Google can innovate quickly and launch new updates, but its biggest challenge is that it needs to get tighter with partners on the user interface and cohesive experience. Google is paying more attention to UI. Google Music Beta launched. Google’s tools for music management, album view and cache of recently played music are nice tools. All music can be made available offline. the initial reaction is that Google’s user interface could be its differentiator. Naturally, Google took aim at tethered syncing—basically iTunes. You can add 20,000 songs and the service is free while it’s in beta. Updates for a wide range of devices. Buyers of new devices at these partners will get Android updates for 18 months as the hardware allows. Google is working to get tighter with partners to create a better experience. Google Introduces Android 2.4: Meet Ice Cream Sandwich Google unveiled Android 2.4 (deliciously nicknamed "Ice Cream Sandwich") at this morning's keynote at Google I/O in San Francisco. Ice Cream Sandwich brings the best features of Honeycomb to mobile phones. Still, other than a few intriguing demos, Google did not disclose many details about the update such as when it will be available to consumers. Interestingly, Google addressed one of the biggest gripes both developers and consumers have about the Android platform: Fragmentation. There are hundreds of Android devices out there in many shapes and sizes. And while choice is great, it is incredibly difficult for app developers to meet the needs of so many different types of phones and tablets. Google stressed that Android 2.4 would address this issue since the apps experience is a huge part of the Android platform. Ice Cream Sandwich seeks to give app developers tools they need to accomplish this. Google also proclaimed the lofty goal of "one OS that runs everywhere." One exciting detail is that all of the cool things we loved about Honeycomb is coming to Ice Cream Sandwich. Phones will get in on the cool sliding widgets, holographic user interface, and the handy task launcher. Google also showed a couple of cool demos. The "3D" holographic user interface can detect where you're looking on the display and update to match your perspective. It is a bit difficult to explain, but basically no matter where you are looking on the display, the software will adapt to ensure that you have a perfect viewing experience. Google also demoed a silly face warper ala Photobooth in the Macbook, though it is unknown if it does anything beyond making you look ridiculous. Perhaps the coolest feature is the Virtual Camera Operator. When you're on a video chat with multiple people on each line, the software can figure out who is speaking and automatically focus on the right person. This has huge potential for business users. The Android platform is growing rapidly and it is only going to get bigger. There are currently 200,000 Android apps in the Android Market as of today. Google also confirmed that there are 100 million Android device activations as of today. Even though we still know very little about Ice Cream Sandwich, it is a relief to see that Google is addressing the device fragmentation issue and adding some pretty sweet features. 11. Lifetime Validity Will Be Lost In 20 Days

What is this? TRAI has taken anti consumer approach, how would SIM cards be misused if people are not using them anyway, this is clear misleading of the end user by limiting validity. The users when they had taken the SIM would have had information from the operator telling them when the validity would expire. That information should be treated as binding and correct.

  14. Recommend Men’s Shaving System

Dr thanks for your explanation. On the topic of knotty beards, I did not explain clearly my bad. I mean that for people who shave once a week or less, if they use this then how will the beard look when it grows, will it not appear circular twisted and knotty due to the rotary blades? Edit ignore seen city's explanation. Out of + quota again, will give to both for your reviews.
  15. Stock Market Crash - Guidance For Newbies

^ Thanks, have posted a screenshot in page 1 which shows it? Is there any recommendation or where/how I can find? On the risk thing, of course would not want to incur more losses but the fact is that I have been - INR30K since 2008 so what I meant to say is have the capacity to absorb monetary losses. This is not my daily driver.

Motorola launches three new dual-SIM feature phones in India, starting Rs. 3,590 Source. Motorola has launched three new dual-SIM phones in India, starting from Rs. 3,590. Called slim and stylish by Motorola, the three feature phones bear Motorola’s proprietary operating system, not Android, and support dual-SIM of the GSM-GSM type. All three phones are available at select outlets in select cities in India. Two of the three devices, the Motorola EX119 and EX109, are candy bar QWERTY handsets, while the last – the Motorola EX212, is a flip design reminiscent of yesteryear’s Razr. Read on for more details about the new Motorola dual-SIM devices. All three are also pictured below. Speaking on the launch of the three devices, Rajan Chawla from Motorola Mobility commented: “The fast evolving dual-SIM market in India is a driving force for us. We are glad to bring these innovative, feature-rich mobile phones in varied designs and form factors to the Indian consumer…. We focus strongly on the consumer and thanks to different form factors, consumers in India can now easily pick between a keyboard experience, a touchscreen experience or both – all in stylish, slim packages.” Motorola EX212: Measuring in a 13.9mm in width, the compact flip EX212 has a 2.4-inch display with a QVGA, apart from a secondary LED screen on the front panel – which displays notifications, alerts and other information dynamically even when the phone is shut. Price: Rs. 5,190 Motorola EX119: The biggest difference between the EX119 and EX109, is that it bears a 2.4-inch capacitive touchscreen in addition to the QWERTY keypad, similar to the Android-based Motorola Charm. RIM launches BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone in India at Rs. 32,490 Source. RIM launched the BlackBerry Bold 9900, also known as the Bold Touch 9900, at a conference in New Delhi today. Priced rather extravagantly at Rs. 32,490, the Bold Touch 9900 is the first of the three new BlackBerry smartphones we saw last week, all featuring RIM’s latest operating system – BlackBerry 7 OS, as well as a speedy single-core 1.2GHz processor, and 768MB of RAM. At that price, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 competes with other top-end phones in the market, from the Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC Sensation to the iPhone 4. We wonder if all the new features will sway Android and iOS fans the BlackBerry way. The phone’s touchscreen plus QWERTY form factor gets the best of both worlds, featuring RIM’s famous BlackBerry keypad, and a 2.8-inch transmissive display that is touted as a 24-bit high res display, with a resolution of 640x480 pixels – working out to a super dense 287 ppi. The Bold Touch 9900 comes with a 5MP camera onboard capable of 720p HD video recording, 3G/Wi-Fi/GPS/Bluetooth/microUSB/NFC connectivity, an optical trackpad, a document editor, 8GB of built-in storage space, and a 1230 mAh battery capable of delivering nearly 13 days of standby time, and 6.5 hours of talk time. At a glance, the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 is quite similar to the Nokia E6, with an identical form factor, and a high-resolution display. While the price difference is quite massive, it will not be fair to compare the Bold Touch 9900 and E6 in terms of cost, with the former in a different league of hardware configurations. But has RIM still made a mistake pricing the Bold 9900 so high?
  20. Help Request - HTC Hero CDMA In Bangalore

Hi all, Problem: I have a CDMA Hero which is bricked. It can be repaired through a hardware box using JTAG process, but the box currently does not support the CDMA Hero, only GSM is supported. I got this info from a repair guy in Bangalore who tried using RIFF box. Solution: The box can be made to support CDMA Hero if it can read a working CDMA Hero so that it has the required configuration files. Help requested: If any kind member in Bangalore has a working CDMA Hero I request him to come with me to the box guy, they will just read the working phone using the box - no damage assured. This will then help the box support the CDMA Hero and unbrick my phone. All I need is you to spare some time for this. I will ensure transportation. If anyone is willing to help please PM me to discuss. Thanks for reading. PS if anyone knows of repair options outside Bangalore I can courier my bricked phone there too.
  21. Forum Game: Werewolf!

I'd like to introduce you to Werewolf, a game which I read about on different forum and can be played on a messageboard such as this. The game can be played by any odd number of players above 8, but a good number would be from 15 - 27 (fewer and the game is too short, much more and the game is too long). I am keeping the target number as 27 depending upon sign up interest. Thanks to ciderman at redcafe for the rules writeup. Special Roles To help the villagers out in their decision, some of them will be given special roles, there will be one of each per game. These roles are as follows: Seer: the seer has the ability to PM the moderator once per turn and ask him 'Is X a werewolf?' to which the moderator will answer truthfully yes or no. Priest: the priest will learn the roles of any players killed in the game. Witness: the witness selects another player (has to be different each turn) to follow, if that player is killed during the night then the witness learns the identity of one of the werewolves. If the witness selects a werewolf then he/she learns nothing, because werewolves are too crafty to be followed, and if he ever does witness a killing then he becomes, for the remainder of the game, a normal villager. Lovers: Lovers come in pairs and they are granted permission to communicate with one another privately. They may decide to reveal to each other their roles, or, they may not, they may be deceitful towards one another; the choice is theirs. Lovers' alliances may be different, love knows no boundaries between good and evil, though two werewolves cannot fall in love with one another, and a seer can never fall in love. Should both lovers be alive at the game's end then they'll each receive 15pts for the league table, but, should one be killed at any stage then the other instantly dies of a broken heart. Players given these roles can announce them to the group if so desired, as can any player announce anything to the group really (in a game of Werewolf lying and deception is encouraged), but beware, doing so would likely make you a prime target for slaughter. Requested Absences At the discretion of the moderator, a player may request an absence from the game whereby he be allowed to post one lynch vote a turn ahead of time. This may not be done on two consecutive nights however, and the ‘two missed votes’ rule still stands and if someone misses two consecutive votes that player will be replaced. Time Scales As I've said, each 'day' in the game lasts for 24hrs in real life, 10am-10pm Day Phase and 10pm-10am Night Phase, but if the game is progressing quickly and players are suitably active then this may be speeded-up by decision of the moderator. That's it really, that's how you play. Sign up below if you want to be involved in the first game and we'll see if we can get enough to start the first Night Phase from next Monday. Oh and make sure you've got room in your PM box!!! This game requires active participation and to start I will accept entries from only users who have more than 500 posts. If there is any room left at the end, I will consider provisional entries with less than 500 posts if you ensure that you will be active. Any questions post them here too and I'll try to answer when I can. Who's up for it?
  22. Forum Game: Werewolf!

OK we have two. Anyone? This is a fun and addictive game, tests logic, plus it is always fun to suspect someone as wolf. Wherever I have played this, this game changed the forum, people became much more trusting of each other and it increases the fun quotient. Rimweb is already a close knit family, come on, let us try this out once. I need minimum 15 members to have proper game though 27 would have been great, but at this rate would be lucky to have 15 . The more the merrier.

  25. Stock Market Crash - Guidance For Newbies

Have now read the thread. Thanks everyone for their views. I hope this thread will help people like me who have poor understanding of stocks. To clarify what sort of risk and investment time I am looking at, I am ok for the money to sit and perform. The money in my share account is there since 2008 I have not withdrawn anything. My risk taking ability is moderate, I would not want to incur further losses however would not be panicking if the worth of the money currently there did reduce. Secondly, I cannot monitor the stock market each day or even once every few days because of work timings etc. So my aim is to invest not trade. If the money grows at reasonable rate beating inflation (which FDs do not now) then am ok. Specific suggestions to turnaround my losses? @Sadikk bhai what is sadhana forests I googled but it seems an ecological park/farm?
