Irresistable Deals In Electronics, Gadgets, Mobiles, PC Hardware
digitalnirvana replied to rajanmehta's topic in General Technical Discussion
For GSM mobiles better to buy from UK than USA, in USA most phones are AT&T/TMobile locked but in UK they are also available unlocked. E.g. see http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/ check the pay as you go (prepaid contract unlocked) phones, even they are cheaper than India. Pay monthly (postpaid contract locked) is obviously much cheaper.- 6,376 replies

Much required, however this point is most interesting. Is this to allow Rtel to offer voice over data spectrum? -

Review: Sprint HTC EVO 3D - World's 1st (Proper) 3D Phone

^ Welcome to the forum. It is understandable if you feel worried in buying from an online forum without warranty etc, so I suggest you read around the forum especially the feedback threads. It is important that you know what you are dealing with, because you are not an expert (neither am I) as you say, so it is all the more required for you to have a working-out-of-the-box handset with everything working, like an officially store bought handset would do. That experience you are going to get from the reputed sellers here and they help with queries, support etc. that a new user might have. If you plan to import from the USA, the initial buying cost might be less, then you would need to pay customs and shipping, then to register MEID and to program, and to get data plans etc. The total cost is nearly same as buying from forum and for someone who is not tech savvy it is worth spending more to get properly setup phone than taking hassles to configure. There will be no warranty in either situation but in case of importing if the seller sends wrong phone etc. you will spend more in shipping back to claim refund. One approach is like buying preconfigured PC and the other is to buying computer parts and assembling PC. -

To add to what Arun has said, please be clear on the customs duty on the product before buying. Their website shows only the shipping charges based on country and weight of parcel, customs is not shown and is directly charged during payment. Customs duties - mobiles is 1.3% as smnrock mentioned, tablets is 15% which was news for me. Karan.asraniATaramexDOTcom can help on the customs duty calculations. For mobiles I think it is better to buy from reputed sellers on RIMWeb instead of importing, the hassles of importing, registering, programming etc. are not worth, buying from here also gives something back to the community. My opinion only.- 6,376 replies

Handset Launches - News Snippets
digitalnirvana replied to digitalnirvana's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Karbonn releases 3G-enabled low-cost Android phone at Rs. 6,999 - Karbonn A1 Source. Karbonn has launched its first Android-based handset in India, the Karbonn A1. Priced at Rs. 6,999, it joins the ranks of low-cost Android handsets from companies like Micromax, Spice, and Huawei. Like the Huawei Ideos U8150 and the new Micromax Andro A70, the Karbonn A1 comes with a capacitive touchscreen. The Karbonn A1’s most remarkable features are its connectivity options, which include 3G (7.2Mbps HSDPA) and GPS, as well as Wi-Fi hotspot functionality, apart from Bluetooth. Running Android 2.2 Froyo, the Karbonn A1 has a 2.8-inch display (resolution unknown), a 600MHz processor, a 3.2MP camera, a 3.5mm audio jack, and expandable microSD storage up to 32GB. Also onboard is SWYPE text input functionality, as well as various bundled apps, such as Bollywoodji, Saavn Music, and Tune Wiki. Karbonn is looking to get behind the popular Android platform in a big way in India, and apart from strongly promoting the A1, it intends to launch three other Android phones shortly. Let us hope it manages to deliver usable and well-built devices at prices that trigger even greater adoption of Android in India, providing choice in a still rather empty low-cost market. -

Irresistable Deals In Electronics, Gadgets, Mobiles, PC Hardware
digitalnirvana replied to rajanmehta's topic in General Technical Discussion
^ What I meant is that I created a new account with USA, UK and China addresses, the cost mentioned on shopandship website was USD35 and using that coupon I paid USD5. That coupon might have expired no way to know unless someone tries to create new account using it. I have read the posts before posting. It is worth creating an account if it costs USD5-USD10 but USD35/USD45 is costly. The other hassle is there is no way to pay online for the shipping/customs, it has to be paid to the person in cash which is troublesome if the customs amount is high and one is short of money. This is OT so not discussing on this.- 6,376 replies

digitalnirvana replied to rajanmehta's topic in General Technical Discussion
This is a shopandship discount coupon code through which one needs to pay USD5 not USD35. Try if it works, shopandship charges USD18 for 1 KG or 1.2LB parcels which should be ok for phones, and customs is extra, their parcels come through Sahar and the shipping is fast. For phones customs is less but for tablets it is quite high. I will post their contact E-Mail with whom one can check. They give three addresses for USA, UK and China for local purchases in Ebay of those countries.- 6,376 replies

Removing the post limit check for now to gauge interest, but folks intending to play please note you need to be active else the game basically dies, I think half an hour or so per day time needed to spend here to plan and make strategies. Where are the RIM gurus no one is game, I think this is the first time such a game is being played here, come on everyone?
